Hornet FM
-
Hello, i want to know…. How good modelled is the hornet C? I’m talking about the FM.
I was comparing some data with DCS and they are very very close in performance (I don’t know how to accurate is DCS with this plane), thanks in advance -
The only somewhat “accurate” FM for the Hornet I can verify is in Microsoft Flight Sim - and the only reason I think that is because I know that MCAIR helped MS implement it.
As for the systems model…it’s pretty bad.

What do you mean with “systems”…. Avionics???
-
Affirmative. The avionics and systems are just an F-16 in a dress.

Well it is quite rare to see manual TEF in a F16
Launch bar is something quite unusual on F16 as well, so is the probe. -who knows ? ;);) …
I doubt F16 has an autothrottle but i might be wrong…
I doubt the TRim in F16 is AOA related but again what do i know about it ?
It does not seem that take off trim is used in F16 eithers
TOe In is quite difficult in a F16 as well
Glimiter overide is something i whish i had in the F16
…
so the guy is asking about FM, let’s have the courtesy to answer him about FM -

so the guy is asking about FM, let’s have the courtesy to answer him about FMthank you for your reply, as i said, i was testing the hornet C based on some DCS flight data, they are very very similar, maybe the little difference could be the wind factor i don’t know, i think the hornet in BMS is a piece of art good modelled, i love it, i’m flying that plane more than F-16 now

i dont think the F18c FM is…. and why you said avionics are pretty bad??? of course all we know hornet is using f16 avionics but do you know that the bms f16 avionics is the best modelled code in the sim business??? so don’t say BAD just say DIFFERENT

Glad to see i made at least one guy happy , because this whole F18 story is a sad one and believe me i have a very bitter taste in my mouth still
The whole carrier code with it’s dedicated specific ATC , real human voices, deck moving , arrestors , jet blast etc etc the F18 AMF and FLCS and specifics stuff have been developed when people inside BMS team were pushing hard to get a F18 , including possibly better cockpit and avionics.
Unfortunatly, that flame disappeared when DCS F18 went out, since most of those people left.
So basically, the F18 we have right now is unfinished and has been abandoned , however, i decided to complete the carrier code and maintain it, with the secret hope someone would make a SU33 cockpit and dedicated russian avionics some day
Anyway, a lot of work has been put in the F18 FM, with complete dedicated FLCS and specific systems.
but , compared with the F16, i will NEVER pretend we are close to real…i have no idea, i just coded some FLCS behavior from what i could find in different F18 manuals
TEf laws
Some FLCs Laws
Trim LawsI have also ensured that high AOA and yaw controlability were possible…but again , that’s is maybe not even ballpark

They are “bad” for a Hornet because they aren’t Hornet avionics. It’s supposed to be a simulation, not a “game”. It’s an F-16 simulation and the Hornet add-on is not up to the standard of the Viper…because it’s not a Hornet sim, it’s a Viper sim. The Hornet implementation is not correct, and if you know anything about Hornets it’s pretty annoying. Bottom line for me is that if it’s not correct, I’m not interested. So I only fly the Viper, because it’s the best there is.
I could also venture that the Hornet FM also has some errors, given that the design approach is something COMPLETELY different from what the Viper is based on, and it’s a Viper sim not a Hornet sim…it may be a fair guess, but I have a gut feeling that between both BMS and DCS neither of them have it spot on. Personally, my favorite Hornet sim right now is the VRS one - with the TAC-Pac add-on. And even that one is a bit dated from a systems standpoint, but it’s far more correct for what it is.

you and the hornet dev team made happy a lot of people, i think the most interesting thing is the FM because it doesn’t make sense fly a plane with a beautiful cockpit but a poor FM code, anyway i think the hornet has a good future in BMS, some people left the project but new ones will come to finish it up, for now WE are happy flying with viper avionics, i mean, there are people like me that can’t pay for a DCS hornet or another one sim, the hard work behind this sim is amazing, i hope the hornet will become a plane with a fully avionics implemented, not soon of course, it will take some time, just to say thanks to the dev team, as i said before, you guys made happy a lot of people, that’s important

mmmmmmmmmmmhhhhhhhhhh…. not bad just different avionics, FM is the most important for now, have you read the Docs section in BMS directory? The hornet has it own FM document, just check it, not based on Viper FM

and one more thing Map-jp, keep going with the hornet please never give up, you all guys are going for the right way.
AMAZING WORK!!! -

AMAZING WORK!!!It’s been 3 years we didn’t touch it

It’s been 3 years we didn’t touch it
We’ll need more than 3 years to enjoy it yet. Moreover, carrier based ops add a very interesting tactical point. I’m still dreaming of a Wasp, there would be campaigns designed just for that area.

I’m sure it’s “different”. I question its “correctness”.

Me too! I exclusively fly the Hornet C instead o Viper. Thank you Mav-jp!
-
Mav-jp i get your point about how things turned out with F/A18 effort. Still i believe that DCS will never have the realistic combat environment that BMS has to offer with campaign and so many a/c SAMS and everything else that keeps Falcon on the “top edge” of combat realism!
Maybe a stall is temporary (like in a real flight) until you recover again!
Please Dont give up… We love the Hornet!! It could have a bright future in BMS ! -

I’ll second that. I’ve just finished a Balkan campaign flown exclusively with the F-18 off the TR. Total joy! I love the boat. I love the ATC. I love the plane.

The Hornet is a beast
