Is VIS mode an option IRL? Seems odd you’d have it given these are standoff/over the horizon weps.
thx

You mean:
Is it used IRL? No idea…
Is it part of the avionics? Sure, it’s in the 3-4I never used it besides when I needed to test it as part of the Development & implementation, it’s not very practical indeed.

It does work, though you can’t (should say I can’t) get a point track on the TGP. I assume that is because it locks the HUD as SOI. I had a couple 154’s left after hitting the targets at my PPTs and found a SAM site after seeing a launch. Put the cross over the target (in range), launched and direct hit.

thanks. didn’t know it worked like that via TGP. Was referring more to VIS mode as with mavs….slewing the box in the hud to the target, TMS, pickle that works like a charm as well, 100% hit rate for static armor

Hi, Stalker,
I look at that the same way you can use an AIM-120 at -9 range, you’re just using it’s full capabilities
I also see what Icer does as far as point track goes on TGP, and what you see on Mavs. In fact, have you ever tried the Mav-G and Area Track? -

I’m unsure if the TGP is providing a GPS or simple visual reference point in this case as there is never a Point track, just area. I slew the HUD target box straight down in the lower HUD (but visible), fly it to the target area, TMS up to Area track, then fine tune it to the actual target. If in range, pickle and watch the fireworks. Have not tried 65 Ds/Gs, will they work the same (static targets only) without going through the Boresight dance?
This is pretty much the JSOW VIS procedure given in the docs, i’m just not really sure how the bomb knows exactly where to go without a Point track (or laser guidance)? Is it GPS guidance with just the camera in the SNIPER pod?
