Ff you could have one thing in the next update it would be…

Nope, definitely can’t see anything like that. It shows as a little white square. What you are referring to is that the radar histories show up sooner for a jet with tanks than for a clean Viper due to the increased RCS. I think the actual radar history and cursors (including text?) may not be perfectly to scale. That stuff always seems small to me in BMS than in the real jet. However, it is a lot easier to get a lock and dig out multiple contacts in BMS than it is in the real jet. Additionally, the contacts show up perfectly in BMS; whereas, in the real jet if you don’t have crisp radar mech it’s sometimes difficult to get a DTT.
I don’t understand. Why would the histories show up sooner with increased RCS? What am I missing?

More radar energy is being reflected back due to the area, shape, material, etc.

Yep - OK i get that. But I thought the target histories were those that were placed in the bin by the radar. Hence confused as to how something historical would show up sooner… Confused…

Poor phrasing on our part maybe? Radar hits is probably a better term. You have radar hits sooner with a 2-bag jet than with a clean jet.

I don’t know what an actual AN/APG 68 projection looks like…however I am pretty sure we are seeing a dummed down version even in A/A. Reading reports about the radar pilots can tell if it has drop tanks on etc. I would guess that the real radar does not show a square but shows the actual return in someway.
…I SERIOUSLY doubt that…don’t believe a word of it. Experience may give them some SA based on detection range, but the actual A/A FCR presentation in BMS is done very well, IMO. Performance modelling, OTOH, is anyone’s guess…but I do know I found the randomization of detection range that was in the old Hornet 3.0 to be most interesting…and realistic, as far as the behavior goes.

OK - now that makes sense. Thanks.

I am just quoting some articles I read about the radar. The quote was (I paraphrase) : The radar is extremely good: we could tell of there were drop tanks on the planes. I was wondering how that could be the case if it is a pure B Scope display, and not the kind of displays that you get in SAM sites.
However I think Fox3TwoShip has answered.

Agreed.

Whereas in BMSits not possible to get a DTT at all unfortunately.

Hello, i absolutely love this game (played DCS A10C and was amazed, but BMS is the real thing)
if i can as a newcomer suggest…-
The best thing for single monitor newcomers would be the ability to read the tutorials in game (so you can open some window with the the pdf in 3D… pause and read, then continue).
-
Modernized UI (just up to date icons would make the UI more comfortable).
-
ACMI freezes the game sometimes when returning from 3D (wont load even after 1 h of waiting) it would be good to add some option to stop ACMI processing/saving at the return page.
-
Better sound transitions (sounds pop in and out or go from 100% volume to 10% in an instant) dont know if others have this problem too.
-
Higher quality ground textures (it might not be possible with so old game based engine, but it would be really nice), especially airfield textures (clearly visible texture edge, texture z-fighting, textures not matching properly, low res)
-
I dont know if i am doing this right, but if you do not destroy or hit the target of your package, but it is destroyed by other flight in your package (lets say you have 2 F16 (player, wingman) and 2 F15(AI, AI) in package and F15s destroy the target before you could reach it) the debriefing says your package has failed, but the target was destroyed (so if this is a bug it would be awesome to fix it), otherwise please PM what am i doing wrong.

I haven’t used BMS in a little while but I seem to remember DTT being possible. Lock one dude and dig out and lock the other. Step the bug with a TMS right. This isn’t possible?

Its possible to bug one guy (from RWS, TMS up to go to RWS-SAM) and then bug a second guy (TMS up on the first to go to STT, or TMS up on the second to go to DT SAM). However, if you then bug the priority target in DT SAM in BMS, it goes to STT, not DTT (ping pong mode).

U can run in window mode and have pdf manual open at the same time.
A tablet or a smartphone can help also.Sent from TapaTalk

It’s because you’re flying a Blk 50/52. This is how it should work. DT-SAM is much better. Load up a blk 40/42 and I’d be you’d get DTT. The processing power in the Blk 50 radar is much better so it can’t track two and still search.

I fly a block 40 in BMS near exclusively. Ill test with the block 50 and see if it makes a difference.
The diagram in the -34 appears the same for blocks 40 and 50 regarding DTT and DT SAM.
EDIT: I see what you mean. No, the block 40 in BMS does not have DTT at all. It does have DT SAM, but designating on the bugged target goes to STT, not DTT. This is the case for 40/42/50/52 in BMS. Likewise, the BMS jets have DT SAM, not just the block 50/52.

Yah that isn’t modeled correctly then. Should be DTT in the Blk 40 series.
-
In fairness, the block 50 series should be able to get to DTT, by TMS up on the priority target in DT SAM. Doesnt work in BMS though.

Correct! Odd that it doesn’t work correctly in BMS.

Kind of an update per se… But with the CAF already testing M7 with a roll-out in the future, is the plan to push BMS to that? From what I hear it’s a huge game-changer with regards to the avionics. One of the major changes is getting rid of the B-scope representation of the radar and going to an ATD. I think this will be a major rewrite of many of the avionics. Additionally, is there any push to get L16 (I know it gets old asking)?
-
I think BMS is not likely to get to full M5 in the near future.
