Do you use smart scaling?

What I loved in AF was smooth change of view from padlocked target to forward pit and vice versa. I never lost SA and sense of my “body” position or relative to target. In BMS some of this view movemant are imediate “snap”….so I loose SA quite often (no TIR) against experienced human dogfighter.

Glance Forward/Backward commend … ? … also exist in F4BMS.

I use Smart Scaling, but I think BMS could benefit more from better LOD or effects at intermediate to long ranges, especially contrails, than SS.
I know flight visibility can be different from ground visibility, also because of your own movement, but when looking at the skies on a fair day, I can easily spot contrails +50NM away, and clearly see civilian jets at ranges up to ~30NM (and even further in case of heavies). Sun glares are very visible up to 40-50NM, and recognizing at least the general airliner types is still possible at 20-30NM.I don’t know when contrails become visible in BMS exactly, and I can’t check at the moment, but I don’t think the KC-10 (one of the largest aircraft in the sim) is nothing but a formless speck on your screen beyond ~15NM, unless you zoom in or use TGP.

I’m on a little laptop screen so I have to use it or I can’t see s***.

heck, the smart scale off does not look real in this picture. My SS on does not look that good.
What is ‘SC’?

But it is not animated properly in BMS IIRC…but I will check it again.

The picture is for comparison only….u can not say, what is more real imo (depends on your/his screen resolution)
SC is SS typo I guess (at least in my post

Turned off my smart scale today, and I got 6 AA kills (AI) on BFS SP. So I prefer off and trust my sensors…

3D cockpit is very smooth panning around and I get the feeling of actual movement never before experienced in Falcon as the ground receded, aaa flying by and I can see vehicles moving with dust trails, bomb hits and other aircraft. Then climbing through the clouds. Posting pics is great yet does not do justice to the experience. Amazing to have come this far. Thank you.

imo, smart scale is ok….it’s better than flying with smoke on.
For VID I believe that some zoom is needed. In most of the youtubes, mega zoom is used.
I like using FOVToggle “View-look closer” and disable the mega zoom.
FOVToggle is enough scale to tell the deference between a Mig-21 / F-16 <1.5nm and the deference between the Mig29/F-15 at ~2nm…
…On my system depending on aspect. -

Contrail limitation is because FPS eater. Otherwise we would make it much longer.

The KC-10 is probably flying too low for the contrails to appear. I think they are visible for about 30seconds, rang I don’t remember, 120-200k feet perhaps?

Actually, contrails can stay visible quite long, depending on the weather conditions (like a few hours), spread out and become high altitude clouds.

…On my system depending on aspect.IMO unreallistic, yeah I know its a game/simulation but its a feature for comfortable pilots try to use your TGP,your radar, NCTR (Non-Cooperative Target Recognition) to build your SA not your mouse scroll. First it will be a bit unusual but later you got better results when your muscle memory remember this workflow.

Yepp, but I was talking about in BMS

If someone want to make himself as “real” as it gats and he also takes all of the Features can compense things that are missing on a sim (there is much missing) why not? Smart Scaling is a Feature that can be uses, but no one is forced to use it That´s great on BMS, there are a lot of Options that can be used but there is no Need. Everyone can have it on a way he/she likes it.

Often, yes, but we’ve had instances where the tanker produced contrails at FL220.

Contrails depend not only on the altitude but generally on the weather. During my 8 month duty at the austrian army air forces i was stationed at the military weather station at Hörsching (LOXL) tower.
At the daily weather briefing the pilots got infos at which altitudes they have to expect contrails.

Yep, its a matter of humidity, pressure, and temperature… Wikipedia is more knowlegeable than me on this
Bottom line, to have realistic contrails, you need a lot of particule systems which is a huge FPS killer.
And tactically speaking, they are as useful as IRL, allowing to spot easily ACs in the contrail layer. Beyond that, the size of the trail… not that relevant tactically IRL, it can also be useful to spot missiles in the booster phase, including smokeless ones. -
Contrail were (and I guess still are - if no DL is available) to help establishing eye contact within a formation that got seperated, you would pop up into the contrail layer and descend back drawing a small line visible to everyone.
as for smart scaling, I will turn mine off (as well as the POV zoom) when I have a 70" 4K monitor… till then, I can’t see shit with 27" 1440p screen from 1m away.
and the there is a mid range, that causes the model to shrink at almost the same rate it should grow due to closure, meaning that it looks like you are not gaining on it - which causes issues in closing from long WVR to guns (and when sitting in a spread formation) - no issues in close in guns or tight formation

Is there a way to edit the SS multiplier value on the user end?
