Do you have an enabled sounds card device? I think BMS requires that or it’ll shut down on startup.
Just a wild guess…

Hi,
This feels like a silly question, but is there a F16 3d geometry model available for download, that these templates’ UV layout are compatible with?
I’d like experiment with baking in Ambient Occlusion and other procedural treatments that requires geometry (low res will suffice).
As far as I understand it, I can export LOD files from the database, but there are no LOD importers available for common DCCs (Maya, Max, etc…), hence my question
Regards
Hello!
I made this video trying to get a better understanding of the RWS DT SAM radar sub mode. :plane:
Enjoy!
(feedback welcome)
The locked SimHotasPinkyShift was mentioned in the U1 change logs:
**KEY FILES & EDITOR:
— Changes to Key Files: (r10913)
Okay, I think I have figured it out again
<snip>Okay, here are the three things I did:
- I went to the location Falcon BMS 4.34 > User > Config on my hard drive, and opened up the file “BMS - Full.key” with WordPad. I looked through the file, and I found this line:
SimHotasPinkyShift -1 0 0xFFFFFFFF 0 0 0 -0 “STICK: PINKY SWITCH (DX SHIFT)”
On the previous line of this post, notice that I highlighted the characters “-0” in boldface type.
I changed the -0 to 1
Then I saved the file.

Hi there!
Thanks for checking in.
I’m still coding on this from time to time, I’m mostly using it as a sand box to learn the Falcon framework.
The last addition was adding the user’s PPT to the map and there’s also a back end service in the works that shares data between the clients (to help facilitate sharing DTC data before flights, for instance)
It’s still early days so please don’t hold your breath.

Are you recording acmi by any chance? I think the application processes the acmi recording between you exit a mission and the map appears, sometimes it feels like it’s stuck there (it can take minutes to process a long recording, if I’m not mistaken).
Not sure if it’s related…
To me it looks more like inverted normals on the model, with backface culling enabled in the renderer, mixed with some sort of transparancy sorting issue
Thanks for the kind feedback.
Making a working product (like an awacs scope) out of this prototype would indeed be a fun project, but I’m not sure it’s feasible at this point.
As you probably have guessed, the prototype is only showing the player’s deaggregated bubble in realtime, which is more or less the same as one would get with an ACMI recording.
I might try to get some feedback from the dev team before spending too much more work on this…
A possible scenario could be; all players in the flight connect to a central hub to share their realtime bubble, then run some sort of awacs radar sensor model on the shared bubbles to simulate an actual radar, data link and line-of-sight against the terrain etc…
Cheers
I’ve been hacking around with Falcon BMS and trying to learn its data structures and databases.
In doing so I wrote this application that displays realtime data from Falcon, like a radar scope.
I’ve uploaded a screen recording to YouTube of the app is running next to Falcon and you can see missiles and other units moving about as you fly.
There are probably similar apps out there already, but I thought I could show what I’ve got so far.

(sorry, the app is not available for download at this point)

Nope, can’t be updated and developer not active and no source code!!

ok, thanks for that clear answer.
Sounds like a great project to take on.
cheers
I was looking into converting OSM (OpenStreetMap) data to E00 data. There’s a software called FME Desktop from safe.com that will read shape data from OSM and write that out as E00.
So far, I can’t make dem2terrain to read the E00 data from FME unfortunately.
The E00 looks fine, as far as I can tell, when I compare it to E00 files from the Joe Labrada-e00_russia_china collection, so I’m not sure why it wont parse it (unrecognised type of e00, is the error message).
I wonder if dem2terrain can to be updated? Is the developer still active or is the source code available?
It seems like it would be worth spending some time getting the tools working with readily available data out there.
I’m keen to help out where I can (in the capacity as software developer and technical writer).
Any thoughts or hints please?
Cheers
Valky,
I parsed the binary star.dat based on Mav-jp’s data structure above and uploaded the content here:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1hLdwTCe7HegrejYkkXEpEXVmEygg6mZmAT5tdtcVncI/edit?usp=sharing
(PM me if you can not access that spreadsheet)
PM me and we can try to generate a new binary file based on some constellation data or similar, to see if we can get different result.
Also, as someone mentioned, there seem to be an issue with the way BMS it draw the stars. Playing back at 64x you can see stars going in two directions over the sky.
Cheers,
Desmo
Check out Sam simulator to get an idea of what it’s like operating one of these analog systems.
