@drtbkj:
When you were having the problem, how had you programmed it(TARGET or the regular BMS)?
Well, first a bit of context. 16 years ago I quit flight-simming and sold my Cougar. Finally, this Christmas, I got myself a Warthog and could not wait to load up Falcon4 (now BMS) again and get the memories flowing.
So, I jumped in pretty much straight away - damn the torpedoes etc. I did install the TARGET software, mostly to apply/check firmware upgrades, but just went straight in to BMS and (did the wrong thing by) setting up the stick then the throttle in the Controllers section. It seemed the intuitive way to get setup. Everything was messed up - even the axes - so now it was time to RTFM.
At first, given I had briefly visited the forum here for a check, I did try loading Morphine’s profile in the TARGET software, but running the profile timed out a few times. As I was just getting started, I decided I would go for a simpler (?) route.
So now I followed the Quick Start Guide in the BMS documentation specific for the Warthog, to the letter.
I checked that both the stick and throttle were detected by Windows 10 USB Game Controllers, and checked the axes and buttons were responding. All good.
I loaded BMS (via the standard launcher at this point), went to the Controllers window, selected the Stick, loaded the “BMS - BasicDX TM Warthog.key” and clicked Apply.
Went in to the Advanced section and assigned the axes (I don’t yet have dedicated rudder, so I assign the Throttle’s slider to rudder).
As I said, the buttons were reporting the correct actions in the BMS Controllers window, but then were not working when in flight, and were working again after exiting flight back to the Controllers window.
Next, I tried the TARGET software again, and this time was able to load Morphine’s “Warthog_BMS_Full_5_434.TMC” profile, without timing out. Now I went in to BMS, selected the “Combined” controller, setup the axes etc, tested OK, but again buttons were not working in-flight.
That’s when I posted of my problems here.
I had also downloaded the Alt Launcher, after seeing mention of it here somewhere, and the Mission Commander etc, but was not actively using it because I considered it to be far too advanced and not necessary as I was just learning to fly again (going through the BMS Training Missions). As I wasn’t using the Alt Launcher, thus far I hadn’t noticed the sections for AxisAssign and KeyMapping. Now that I did notice them I thought I would give them a shot, and they worked.
Other things I had tried along the way were:
1: (multiple) restarts of Windows
2: unplugging and replugging the USB cables for my stick and throttle
3: initially I had them both connected through an unpowered USB2.0 hub, but I did transfer them to motherboard USB ports (no improvement)
