Yes thanks both. I finally got it working. 8036.dds was the one i needed to edit. Thank you so much.

RE: Skinning
@Icarus I’m not sure why it refuses to work either. What I’ve been doing is copying the orginal 8011 so I can work on it. I open it in paint.net. All I have been doing is adding some text artwork to the seat with a name /callsign on it. I then save it. As per a post I found from I-Hawk I have been saving it as DXT-1 with MIP mapping. I then remove the original from the Korea objects folder and drop in my modded 8011 into the folder. I have even done this for the hi-res folder too. Neither works. I have even used an old modded 8011 supplied by one of my old VFW’s (so I know that file is good), dropped that into Korea objects and still all I get is the same basic blank cockpit seat. I don’t understand why?

RE: Skinning
@Icarus Thanks but i don’t want the IAF cockpit seat. I don’t plan on flying the IAF F16’s. I just want to customise the cockpit seat for standard USAF/ROK F16’s.
-
RE: Skinning
@Icarus I was under the impression the cockpit .dds file 8011 was common to all F16 models with the expection of IAF F16’s? I can only find those two in the objects folder?
-
RE: Skinning
@Icarus so i see I have confused myself.
I have found the F16 texture set list and located the .dds files. However, I tried modding the cockpit seat file 8011. I opened it in paint.net, added my artwork, saved it, put it back into the Korea objects folder (keeping copy of oringal to one side )and yet still the cockpit seat remained unchanged. I don’t know what i am doing wrong. Any help would be appreciated.

Skinning
Hi all,
I’m an old Falconeer who is currently trying to get myself back up to speed with 4.37 and also teach my eldest the sim.
I would like to say thank you to the BMS team and all the devs and community for keeping this amazing simulator going and it’s nice to see some names i recognise still posting on the forums.
Anyway I would like to make some custom tail art for me and my padawan learner. Back in the day we used paint.net and LOD editor to make and install your custom skins into the sim (tail art etc).
From the information I have read in the forums it seems we no longer use LOD editor and now use 3ddb builder instead? I have tried running this tool but nothing is being generated in the LOD, Parents, Textures folder and I don’t understand why.
Can anyone point me in the right direction as to where i can read up on this in the forums as i am struggling to locate the relevant information.
Thank you,
Rich_EXF (formerly Bolt 1st VFW/440th VFW)

RE: Replacing microstick double pot - latest intelligence please
@Red:
soldering one is easy. The hard part is unsoldering the faulty one when you need to salvage the PCB
This is correct. When i did this a few weeks ago, i couldn’t get the old microstick to free from the PCB despite me removing all the solder. In the end i had to use a junior hacksaw to separate the two. That damaged a couple of PCB tracks slightly and i ended up having to solder a couple of wires on to repair the damaged connections when i mounted the new microstick.

RE: Ground War Action Video
Cool perspective. Never watched the ground war like this before.

RE: Can anyone generate random weather fronts for 4.34?
F4Wx is awesome. Can’t imagine BMS without it.

RE: Replacing microstick double pot - latest intelligence please
If you send Red Dog a PM he may have some spare PCB’s and microsticks for sale. It will require a bit of soldering but it’s perfectly doable. I would advise getting the PCB too as it’s easy to damage the old one when you try and unsolder the old microstick.

RE: Cougar woes
Thanks RD. I will give it a go.
To add a bit more information, when in DIView http://www.derekspearedesigns.com/download/DIView.exe and I view the ‘raw data’ (shown in red) of the antenna pot it shows it functioning normally suggesting that mechanically the pot itself is working just fine. However it’s the ‘value’ shown in black thats the problem and it seems as soon as i move the pot clockwise from center, the value just jumps to minimum (0.00%). I assume some electrical microcircuitry on the PCB converts the raw data to a value and therein lies my problem? The rest of the HOTAS works just fine.
EDIT: As per RD’s suggestion i re-soldered each of the connections on the resistors on the TQS PCB. Still the same problem.
Having read this https://electronics.howstuffworks.com/joystick5.htm I am thinking those resistors are actually capacitors translating the analogue signal from the pot to a digital signal the computer can use and therefore that one of them must be faulty.
Can anyone with any electronic knowledge confirm if i am correct or not and if so, is it fixable if i can find an appropriate replacement capacitor?
Further EDIT: Fixed it! Looking at DI view more closely it would seem that when calibrating the antenna pot i have accidentally adjusted the min raw data value to quite a high value (just over half the midway value) which was causing the spike to minimum when i moved the antenna pot clockwise from the center. DOH!

Cougar woes
So i’ve recently replaced my Cougar throttle microstick as one of the axes was drifting. I replaced it with a new one but it made no difference, the new one still had the same drift on the same axis but i managed to overcome it thanks to this helpful post
So all was working fine for a while but now my antenna pot is playing up. It’s spiking badly in one direction (up/clockwise) making it unusable. I’ve taken out the old one and tested it with a multimeter and it seems to functioning normally in so far as the resistance chances as you would expect depending how far you turn the axis. Also taken it apart to inspect it as per the guide on Cougar World, all seems in order.
I had a spare antenna pot which i also inspected before installing and i’m getting exactly the same problem which leads me to suspect the pots are not the problem and it is more likely a pcb problem in the throttle or stick base.
Has anyone had similar problems with their Cougar and managed to fix it?

RE: JDAM and SDB issue
You can also browse the ATO to check that no other flights are tasked with the same mission as you are. If there is one then you can either delete the flight or you can find a new mission.
-
RE: JDAM and SDB issue
Record an ACMI and then use tac view to review whether or not your SDB’s actually reached their intended target. Sometimes due to slight terrain elevations combined depending on your attack azimuth your SDB’s can impact the terrain before reaching the target due to their shallow glide path. To counter this conduct a thorough recon of the target area where possible in mission planning and look out for terrain that may get in the way of your SDB’s and plan your attack accordingly.

RE: Any UK time zone squadrons looking for pilots?
440th VFW is a new wing with experienced members from around the world. Weekly standard flight time is 1800z Saturdays if that’s any good for you?

RE: AMD Latest drivers do not support BMS
Thanks White_Fang. I’ll stick with 17.5.1 then. Last time I upgraded the driver and it messed up my system is was a complete PITA trying to roll back the driver.

RE: AMD Latest drivers do not support BMS
Anyone know if the latest AMD drivers are supporting BMS again in Win 7?

RE: Mavericks don't hit using Force Correlation Track
I’ve found it to be the same. Unsure if it’s supposed be like this or not though.

RE: Balkan Map
Brilliant! Thank you so much for doing this so quickly. It even works great on my smart phone!
