i’m older - cant sit still long enough for a complete flight… end up recentering about every 10 mins or so…

RE: Cockpit higher seat
We are talking about view. Your example is about flight.
my example is about a control input
tir is effectively a 6 axis analoge controler ( digitised ) giving values between -16383 and +16383 recentering resets output to 0
tilting your head back is the equivalent of pulling stick back
so pull your stick back to calibrate zero position - let it go to its sprung central to fly normally -
RE: Cockpit higher seat
Yep, and? Sorry I don’t understand the problem. Everything is normal here. Sometimes I center the TIR when my head is a little bit offset, then the guncross can be out of refletive area of the HUD.
in order to get your prefered view ( as shown in the screenie) you look up a ‘virtual’ 6 degrees and recenter your tir then relax to your normal head position. not easily repeatable with agressive tir response curve
what i would like to see implemented is an offset applied to the tir pitch input such that the “recentered” view is more repeatable

RE: Cockpit higher seat
HI Amraam - long time no chat….
look again at the guncross when you recenter TIR - it centralises the guncross — center screen in your screenshot is about 6degrees lower than guncross closer to centre of the hud circle

RE: Cockpit higher seat
Dee-Jay - in BOTH vids - you demonstrate my point…
first video - apart from about 30 seconds ( out of 7mins 19 sec) you were looking down enough to put the gun cross in the top 1/3 to 1/4 of the screen
second vid - again most of the time when hud central - you had the gun cross in the top 1/3 of screen
in both - most of the time top of mfds visible
if users had to " hold your stick slightly forwards whilst you calibrate" in order to fly level with no stick input ( and no way of trimming) there would be complaints (yes i know conventional not relevant to f16…)

RE: Cockpit higher seat
I mean how can i fix without TrackIR few cm higher seat???
Viper -sorry for stealing your thread…
there is no way ( in any version of F4 ) of changing pilot head/eye position other than Trackir or other head tracking software/hardware -
RE: Cockpit higher seat
how much time do you spend looking only ABOVE the canopy frame during a flight?
pilots ???if you run multiple displays - extracted instruments ( home pits ) then i agree the tir centering as it stands is great - if however you are limited to 1 monitor and using the mouse on switches in the 3dpit then being able to offset the ‘center’ pitch position it would enable use of less agressive portions of profile curve where u need most stability - in the pit for actuating switches etc
been using tir4/trackclippro and Cougar since bms 2 days….

RE: Cockpit higher seat
oh by the way - love the shots - jealous as hell though….
and yet your centre of view is through the lower 1/2 of the hud display - not the gun cross… rwr and backup ADI visible -
RE: Cockpit higher seat
default view on entering pit WITHOUT track IR
recentered view WITH tir
Note location of the top of hud in both your pics guys - as oposed to the top of the hud in the ‘recentered’ pit screenie

RE: Cockpit higher seat
Ok so it’s not a general issue but a personal one. This doesn’t mean it’s wrong and BMS should change something.
Adding some kind of an option for personal needs it’s another thing..
you are missing the point Arty
its on the same lines as g_fDefaultFOV, why have a setable field of view, why use mousewheel zoom, why be able to create calibration curves for your joystick and even tir…
its to make users pit experience less frustrating more enjoyable
get a coder to look at sim\siminput\trackir.ccp and consider adding a simple offset to
*pitch = tid.fNPPitch / 16383.f * PI;

RE: Cockpit higher seat
And why exactly it’s wrong? and since it’s wrong which is the exact correct position?
that’s the point exactly –- it all comes to personal reference - no two people siting in the same place will hold their head with the same position posture
due to my eyesight (and lack of finances to buy a bigger monitor and/or replace my glasses) i have to use a pretty aggressive tir profile - not a problem when looking at displays etc - hit pause on tir - but getting a comfortable position to monitor mfds and hud is a major annoyance
-
RE: Cockpit higher seat
… forgetting another point …
You can apply the offset you want in the TIR software for the “zero” of your head’s pitch axe. Just adjust the pitch curve.
HOW?
i realy want to know - 9 yrs of tir use and this is thefirst ime i heard of anyone being able to offset the recentered pich value
-
RE: Cockpit higher seat
a problem - not really - annoying yes
esp as it would be really easy to add a selectable offset to the tir pitch
-
RE: Cockpit higher seat
I have zero prob with re-centering view.
Do you have a TIR?
how often do u " look up slightly" before re-centering? i find myself doing it EVERY time - that is not a “perfect” situation
-
RE: Cockpit higher seat
That’s more an issue with TrackIR drifting during use. If you only used the keyboard to control your view it wouldn’t need to be recentered (unless you can’t get it back to its start point and give up and recenter it then).
again i must disagree - how often do you have the guncross verticaly centred in your monitor?
just been looking at screenshots - in ALL of the ones i saw looking (unless looking out to the sides) the guncross was in the upper quarter of the picture
dissable track ir hit your “3” button from most views and the screen will show the hud projector lump centred - not the guncross as on tir recenering -
RE: Cockpit higher seat
Fixing what? … Everything is working perfect with TrackIR.
disagree with you there Dee-Jay - its v good - but not perfect -how many times have you heard a question about recentering and view?
-
RE: How can I move my view back in cockpit without changing FOV?
a request and question for those of you NOT using Track-IR
if you pan/ switch views and then re-center your view - what item is at the centre of your display? (esp vertically 1/2 way up your monitor)
flight path marker?
gun cross?
top of the hud projector?after 2 or 3 non track-ir users have answered would a tir user please answer the same question afer recentering TIR

RE: BMS IRC Channel
lol
what i realy meant was the QuakeNet #bms channel in particular
