Thought on the distribution of BMS
-
I think it sounds like a good idea. Ease of access and positive exposure. I think a variety of options would work out great.I know a lot of steam users who pick up titles like falcon.
-
Blu3wolf about the drm in bms 4.33.1 who has those? Bms or Tommo and the other company mentioned? So maybe the correct is 4.33.1 will be drm compliant or licensed to mod and distribute.
About steam install process I believe an installer will not do what you wrote. Why do it? 4.33.1 is supposed to do what you say from steam can’t happen. ???
About the what I’m talking. If distribution of BMS is done exclusively or most by steam then they will have a very good idea about potential clients. The rest that could lead to a company falcon development stopping bms team and making it illegal is just math, economics and a good business plan. Get it now?

No, I really don’t. Im going to put it down to a partial language barrier; Im sure the idea is quite articulate but just is not being articulated well (in English).

With Steam giving the updates of BMS in the future the Steam company will have a full knowledge of BMS users thus potential clients for them.
Now Companies go for profit.
If they smell blood (money) from the numbers, meaning the downloads number if paid for can provide an income for a development company they could create one and get the rights for Falcon or do it in cooperation with Tommo which I believe has the full rights and not just distribution. If they do this, 100% will demand BMS to stop their development. Since there is an agreement I believe the team is exposed thus the member that contacted them or maybe signed the agreement is known. I don’t think they agreed with a “ghost” or an unknown team or person.
Tommo sold or gave license to Steam… just for distribution. If they give (sale or license) the code to Steam or whichever company will provide them (Tommo) more money, why not do it? they don’t have anything to loose. It’s a win - win case that all companies love.Big and many if’s. Yes. But I believe the number of downloads will be that high that could put or have a company consider such an option. You will tell me AF didn’t make it. Why they will? hmmm you can’t be sure for anythign. everything is hypothetical. When you create a company you take risks.

Valve wont set up a dev team to compete with BMS, because its a no gain situation. They lack the devs to do it, they lack the rights to do it. It would cost them a lot of money, with little chance of making a return of investment.
Its also based on the (incorrect) assumption that BMS needs to hide to work.
-
Just with the current sales they can get enough money for the head start.
The rights can be bought or leased.
The cost of money is just a good plan. by having the number of potential clients this plan and if profit will be made is way easier to estimate it.No BMS doesn’t have to hide to work, I didn’t said that. They (the new dev company) will hunt them. what do you think this will do?

This is unfortunate. Because I do understand Arty and I share its vision. You should understand that you are talking too much Wolf and that you might give to some ppl some bad idea concerning the community.
Things are good like they are ATM … IMO, we should cross the fingers to keep it as it is for a loooong time (present agreements are certainly NOT irrevocable). No need to boost any other change for now. You will probably be the first to complain like you did about Tommo and new install check process.
Once again, why not staying out that kind of discussion which is only concerning the internal team? … After you are coming to cry about the 150Mo to install on your hard drive.
-
no reason to rock the boat, we got a good thing going and with the licensing issues resolved it seems fit to continue for awhile yet.
why change things up?
-
This just clouds an already slightly cloudy process. Get Falcon in whatever legal way you wish. Add BMS. Enjoy!
-
In a sense, Steam would be offering BMS as an optional install, that would first require Falcon 4.0 be purchased through Steam. This would require a small amount of extra maintenance work by the BMS team to push new releases, and discussion with Retrosim to set up.
So you are saying free DLC?
-
Steam’s DLC feature would be an even better way to implement that, actually. I was thinking of using the Steam Beta feature, but the DLC feature would be a much easy way of getting BMS again.

Evidently the consensus is that the community would be better if it was smaller. Allow me to assist you in your goal, by one member.

There must be a tin foil hat shortage after some of these posts.
The BMS team put a lot of work into this. That work deserves exposure and recognition. Put a link under the Steam F4.0 and it generates more of that exposure and recognition.
And that might just help one or two of them to advance their careers in this field.
But in the end it’s their decision, and they’re big enough and ugly enough to make it themselves. And they’re also big and ugly enough to hear suggestions such as this without it being the problem some are making it out to be.

But in the end it’s their decision, and they’re big enough and ugly enough to make it themselves.
And that is really the point. The suggestion has been made and now it’s up to the BMS Team as to what they do about it. This is after all their playground and we are just guests.
And Blu don’t take it so seriously … it was an honest suggestion and on the whole a good debate … and like others have said tis’ only 'tinternet and not life and death
