This Sucks

This sim isn’t for everyone. And no, I’m not an elitist. Far from it. Ninety-nine percent of the ‘entertainment software’ out there is not for me. Doesn’t make them worthy of negative feedback on my part. Read the manual. Ask questions (as you’d like them presented to you). And, eventually, you’ll come to love it. Or not.

This other fellow seems to have the same problem.

Must be an epidemic.

Then we need to contain it

Lord knows I believe in helping and community and all that. However, I must admit that my initial reaction to this post was to wish the writer a happy life, and don’t let the virtual door hit his gluteal region on the way out

Same fellow, just another thread started with exactly the same wording… Surely, might not be a unique case…

We need a pyromancer for this one

Saitek AV8R-01 believe it or not. But someday I swear, I will have a HOTAS. Oh yes, I will.

Actually, I started with that too. A real HOTAS will blow you away

read the TO-BMS1F-16CM-1 in the DOC folder in your BMS install location
I recommend pages 27-29 and 54-56 for a good way to setup your flight controls
Become familiar with the terms TMS, DMS, CMS and COMMS….
Print the pages I mentioned and practice, practice, practice
…or just continue playing Ace Combat on your X-Box…

Well I never played BMS 4.32 because the setup of the joy sticks was so confusing that it didn’t seem worth the trouble.
So with 4.33 I had hoped the past was left behind. But no so. Configuring the joystick setup is still a nightmare.
Somebody thought that everybody was a computer expert.
Simple joystick of Falcon 4 AF was the way to go together the greatest numbers of users, but someone thought that making
it as complicated as possible was the answer. My thought is that BMS is soon to fail because of personal ignorance.
Lots of people want to fly, but they don’t want to spend all their time being a computer guru.I guess you’re not playing DCS, FC3, or other complex sims then.
Do you want help? Or are you just here to moan? If you want help, then maybe make a new post and try again. There is a “Joystick & Input Devices” sub-forum for this very purpose. If you’re just here to complain, well, good luck with whatever non-complex activity you decide to do next.

You might fail, but BMS seems to be going strong and growing.
Lots of people want to fly, but they don’t want to spend all their time being a computer guru.
And they do indeed! Some don’t even bother setting up their joystick… they just borrow/copy a profile that is made for their type of joystick/HOTAS and go off and learn the sim!

I love how this hardcore sim vets itself.

Ya know when I was told to RTFM I reacted like I was insulted yet frankly it was the best advice I needed.

It’s negative reinforcement. Whether it works or not depends on your upbringing IMO. I was subjected to this throughout my youth, and always accepted it as a challenge to prove I was up to the task. The other side of the coin, is a feeling of oppression that some just can’t overcome. But as Mower correctly stated, the “sim vets itself”.
-
Yes but this is not an arcade game and requires an effort to learn the tech stuff and I do agree with Mower.

Actually, I started with that too. A real HOTAS will blow you away
I own a cougar with FSSB and a Warthog.
Still, whenever I want to fly ClOD, IL-2 or RoF, AV8R-01 replaces the hotas on my desk.
Obviously, there are better joysticks out there, but good old AVR8 deserves some respect! [emoji2] [emoji2] [emoji2]
Regarding OP…. Well I have temptations to respond to his trolling, but there are two ways to look at it, either BMS is too complicated or OP is too simple.
Long live BMS and its “so OMG” complicated joystick calibration.

But in what way is BMS harder to configure than other sims? I found it easier to configure than FSX, way easier than X-Plane and equal to DCS. Click on the control in the list and move the joystick command acordingly. I must be missing something because this seems to be a recurring topic.

Lots of people want to fly, but they don’t want to spend all their time being a computer guru.Success in everything your try is directly proportionnal to the efforts you are ready to provide
With the statement above (and this is for the benefit of all newcomers) your initiative is doomed to failure
Because that joystick configuration might indeed be a little be complicated but it’s part of a selection process or at least a motivation indicator.
Just like when you study for high schools or when you take an exam before being able to start specific studies. It’s not for everyone and only the ones ready to make the required efforts will prevail.
the rest will be left on the sides.Elitist? BS.
Everyone decides what he can do and devote the required efforts to succeed.
Moaning doesn’t help. Try hard and you will get all the help you need -

Your right I don’t think it could be any simpler.
Mouse left click on function, it turns blue.
Activate the joystick/throttle input you want it to be assassinated with.
Click save.
Next function……ect
Click save.
After you have done a few restart Falcon and check.
Tomorrows lesson will will be how to pedal a bicycle. With training wheels
