PMC Theaters

Since I have been away for a while can anyone bring me up to speed on the status of PMC Theaters and Snakeman’s claim to anything listed on his site? There are quite a few theaters he lays claim to. At FreeFalcon he lodged a compliant against FF6-Taiwan being released, claiming it was stolen. After a thorough review and the statements from releasing agent and thorough review of the material, I made a decision to deny Snakeman’s claim and allowed the theater to be released.
In general, knowing how the entire theater building process works, I don’t understand how someone can lay claim to the process of building any theater or even claiming generic names. Saying you own something just because you touched it in some way is ambiguous, especially when the part you touched can be recreated, identically, if using the some data, form the original sources. I would feel differently, had Snakeman actually built a complete working theater from scratch and someone then tried to hijack and release the theater elsewhere. Having spent a good bit of time at PMC on projects, my feeling was PMC was sort of an archive of the basic how-to for building campaigns, not a place where you contribute and then you are denied ownership or the ability to release where you want. Ironically, I contributed there when there were no download costs. So, claims of ownership seem to be dubious and motivated by profit and not in the spirit of a true pro-bono effort as I feel Falcon should be. By the way, most if not all the original PMC-Theaters are shells - starting points. The Snakeman part of the theater is very short duration like days; downloading elevation data, building the L2/O2 and reworking it to simplistic form and using CATE etc. Providing simplistic pieces isn’t exactly what I would call a true theater or deserving of full ownership, considering the length and time of the rest of development. I liken such a claim to scratching out some roads in the dirt and then coming back years later and expecting to be given title to an entire city. Most true development of a theater takes years and a pretty significant number of other developers. Ownership of a theater is also a bit fuzzy since theaters start and stop and get picked back up again by someone else. I think a better title for a theater isn’t ownership, but control of development, unless you plan from the beginning to make a Pay-ware theater. Respect for a person’s contribution and wishes should still apply while they are still active but after that - it would seem things should be up for anyone willing and stupid enough to take on a theater and try to get it to work, hehehe.
I am only bringing this up since I saw several PMC theater titles on the list of theaters in BMS and would like to know - are those now legitimate BMS theaters now and work can commence unhindered?
-
PMC has 0 theaters that are compatible with current BMS.
-
PMC Theaters aren’t really what I would call theaters - so not compatible with BMS is no surprise, hehehe. The point of my post was to hear whether the BMS Theaters; specifically Taiwan and Nevada have any entanglements with Snakeman claims. I guess I don’t want to spend any time on a project that is going to get sidelined with somebody trying arrive late in the party and claim - hey this finished product is mine because I started it years ago and gave it a name etc.
-
Thats going to happen anyway, even though the BMS projects are restarts not sharing data.
Certain parties are always going to claim others work in an attempt to make a quick buck.

Ranger,
A lot of history here to go through, but the short version is there are no PMC-related materials in this forum. One of the best things Snakeman ever did for Falcon was to lock up those PMC theaters because they forced folks to learn how to use the tools- in some cases create new tools- and do the hard work themselves. The result has been theaters of much higher quality than anything we ever did at PMC.If you’re interested in getting involved, you might want to PM Chuckles and look at Panama or Kuriles. I know he’s put a lot of work into both of those, and are in a close to finished state.

You are damned right! Great Statement!
Some months before I seeked for a European Map in order to test some new ideas (tiling, objects Setting and so on). After I wasn
t able to find any datas I payed a copy of PMC
s Europe. What I got was a complete Desaster! Bad tiles, no working campaign, very old models and textures- Really bad Stuff for 15€. That was the first and last product of PMC I ever used.Cheers

PMC is SnakeMan with his “emotional life story” now…It used to be free, interresting and perhaps the only place, where to learn howto mod F4 tho.

Well he might be all you - we say but still the forum and wiki has information that can’t be found anywhere.
We all know the theaters there have no point… The treasure is the wiki and posts.Sent from TapaTalk

Hi toonces,
New Kuriles theater by Chuckles has nothing in common with the PMC. There is new terrain and PAK built from scratch, only maps coordinator are the same.
I like campaign there, which worked properly. This project has potential IMHO.Cheers,

^ Yes, maybe I wasn’t clear. None of the theaters here, including Panama and Kuriles, are PMC….all have been scratch-built, or using other, non-PMC theaters as a baseline.
PMC had its place, and Snakeman still hosts the site and the wiki with a lot of information. I bear Snakeman no ill-will, and let’s not forget all he contributed with is site prior to his payware-stance.
But once we as a community were forced to start from nothing, I think we can agree that the material coming out, certainly in this forum, is of much higher quality. It took a few years, but we have some nice theaters to fly in now.

With the risk of hijacking this thread, I need to make a comment about the Kuriles Theatre. Every since the last two posts in this thread have been made about the Kuriles, I have been getting pm about the project and questions of whether if its dead, been worked on or otherwise. So I will issue a statement and an unofficial update.
The Kuriles Project was almost complete when 4.33 came out. The changes in units and DB caused a lot of indigestion for the project. While waiting for a fix to get the Kuriles working in 4.33, I inherited Norway. After fixing Malc’s Kuwait, Starrats worked with me and got the Kuriles Project working in 4.33. While Norway is in beta testing and Starrats is building its second campaign, I am finishing up the Kuriles Theatre. Don’t ask me when it will be done, because I’m not going to give any release dates. All I can say is that as a theatre, Kuriles is much farther ahead and polished as compared to Norway. It has three conventional (land grab) working campaigns. I have created a detailed manual for theatre that will explain everything that has occurred during my five year odyssey developing this theatre.

Pardon my ignorance, but…Kuriles? Is that some sort of shorthand for the Kuril Islands?

Yes, it is short for the Kurile Islands Conflict. Here is some background information about the location of the theatre:
