DPRK MiG-19/F-6 Skin?
-
Is there a DPRK Shenyang F-6B (MiG-19) skin out there? The MiG-19 model is quite nice but it’s using a Czech AF skin from the looks of it.
I’ve done a search but I wasn’t able to find much of anything.

I am looking for one too…imagine a mig 19 cockpit

… been there, done that. One can’t even find AC numbers, beside the 529.

Do you know all the functions of a mig 19 cockpit?
… and do you know the labeling on the panels, etc.?Cheers,

LSThe reason why you find 529 as one of the few MiG-19 images, is that this is the jet that defected to South Korea in 1996.
A different MiG-19 then, this seems to be 316 (?):
MIG-19 207 is also preserved in South Korea - this one defected in 1983:
And here’s Kim inspecting MiG-19 239:
Completely unrelated but something I’ll have to check in BMS… do our J-5s have PL-2s on them? Check this image below:

As a stop gap measure, here are the DPRK MiG-19SF (F-6B) skin files from FreeFalcon 6 - renumbered to the BMS 4.32/4.33 textures. You should be able to just copy them into your <bms>\Data\Terrdata\objects\KoreaObj directory.
Just make sure you make a backup of the original files first.https://www.dropbox.com/s/lxg03yg3akllocu/MiG-19SF%20Skins.zip?dl=0
Going by the photos above, they aren’t entirely accurate. The bord numbers appear to be red these days, they do not carry a serial on the tail nor do they have a flag-like color on the tail rudder / stabilizer.
They also have this dark grey circular “patch” where the wing root meets the fuselage. That should all be easily fixed I assume but for now, this looks a lot better again!

For now, they are looking way better indeed!

Impressive how a good texture can be “magic”!

Nice work on the find Tazz

Um, any way to bring over the f4 and a4 pits from ff6? I remember them to be quite good

I’ve modified the original FreeFalcon 6 DPRK MIG-19SF skin for my own purposes, as I’m as far removed from a skin artist as one can possibly be, but I’m sharing the textures here.
I’ve made an attempt to make the skin more like the DPRK photos above. I’ve gone with the “239” because it seems to be the most recent footage. Or at least the presence of the Great Leader in the shot allows us to make a reasonable stab at dating the photo.
Here are the changes I’ve made:
- Cleaned up the tail area, removing the serial and flag colours on the rudder as the DPRK MiG-19s do not seem to carry any markings on the tail whatsoever.
- Added that weird grey round circle area on the fuselage that is present in the photos of 239 and 316 above.
- Added 239 as bord number. I wasn’t quite sure what font type that was, I ended up using the USAAF stencil font as of all my military/stencil fonts it just seemed to the best match.
Now I have noticed an issue with the tail area whereby the skin doesn’t seem to be covering the tailplane completely but that seems to be something in the original skin/model - not sure how to resolve that?
Also the front antenna (?) should be the same grey color as the fuselage and not black but I haven’t found out exactly what part of the texture files it’s using.
Link to download the two dds files, just copy them into your BMS folders as indicated above:

did you use texture mapping to check the black parts?
You’ll have to explain to me how to do that using LODEditor I assume?

Nice work there “Tazz”!!!

Thanks Dema, I’ll look into that this weekend!!!
Meanwhile, I’ve updated the MiG-19SF skin with the following changes:
- Replaced the DPRK roundels with those of a model decal set I found online, which are much closer to the original one as per the photo of 529.
- Removed roundels from the top and bottom of the wings. I’ll explain that one below.
First, here is the link to the updated skins and some screenshots. It’s not perfect yet, when converting the image from Photoshop to DDS via the Nvidia plugin, some color pixel shifting occurs and it appears the top part of the roundel is cut-off.
(It’s all there in the original image file. So I’ll have to work on this some more as well.)Link: https://www.dropbox.com/s/54jdq80u0ka4t4c/Updated%20DPRK%20MiG-19SF%20skin%20V3.0.zip?dl=0
(As always, just copy the DDS files into your Korean Object folder.)
Now as far as the roundels on the wings go… I’m making the assumption that the Korean People’s Army Air Force applies a standard, unified approach to the placing of roundels on their aircraft. Mainly because I was unable to find any clear “wing-over” or “higher elevated perspective” photos of their MiG-19/F-6Bs. (I think the above posted images are pretty much it!).
However, when I look at their images of MiG-21s, MiG-23s and MiG-29s, I cannot find any images to confirm or suggest that they DO carry roundels on the wing(s).
Case in point, none of these photos show that DPRK aircraft actually carry roundels on their wings:
Based on the photo evidence above and lack of any evidence of the DPRK MiG-19s carrying wing roundels, I’ve removed them from the wings to achieve a more realistic look.
-
Great job, Tazz !
about fusolage roundels after using texture mapping you will see you are out of texture space, that’s why they are cut on top. Go ahead man.
-
Share a copy of the first roundel versions?
-
Just scroll back in the thread to my previous posts. All previous links are still valid, I didn’t remove anything, at least not intentional.
There should be 3 sets now:
- the original FreeFalcon 6 skin
- modified version with correct bord number placement and clean tail
- modification of the above with correct DPRK roundel and roundels removed from the wings.
And I’m sure there will be an updated version coming soon again
By the way, kudos to whoever made the new MiG-19 model. It’s a very nice model with beautiful gear and cockpit animation.
