JDAM alternate delivery?
-
Hi all
I recently “discovered” that I can drop GBU-32 without entering the lat/long of the target. I basically set the target as steerpoint in the DTC page setup. Once at the target steerpoint I locked up the target while in CCRP mode and dropped the JDAM as a normal “dumb” bomb.
Is this as IRL or is it a bug within BMS?
Any clarification would be great

If you set it up as a steerpoint in the DTC page, that’s where you give in the lat/long.
I’m actually not sure what happens if you slew the cursor, and then without locking or creating a new steerpoint, drop the bomb. :???:

You can drop a JDAM, as a guided munition, on any SPI.

-34, p206. Slewing without locking changes the target coordinates.
Also, procedure in PRE mode includes CZ before dropping. -

There is a possible BMS limitation, not really a bug: your JDAM is guided, your dumb bomb is not. Dropping CCRP might not be enough to hit easily with dumb bombs, because of wind. In BMS, wind is not effective on bomb trajectory, because AI droppers don’t take account of it and would miss every time.
More than usual, let’s say.

Yes, JDAM hits SPI in fact it can only hit SPI. When you “drop on a waypoint” you’re really just dropping on SPI which happens to default to a waypoint location. If you bump cursor and generate from deltas it’s gunna go for SPI and not the steer.
I’m not sure if it’s possible to “hard wire” a JDAM such that it has a concept of the mission plan internal to the weapon before communication with the platform. In any case, such never happens in BMS.

Only the SPICE bomb works that way AFAIK (in BMS).

wondering though, why cant you drop them in pairs?

Suggest you guys read the BMS training mission chapter about Jdams

Thanks for all the great replies!

If the mechanics behind Jdam-gbu’s is same as AGM-154A/C (as it is Jdam itself), then you can, you should can , NOT every plane has necessary logic for every Jdam “approach”.(there are 3 types I think)
Then when you have everything in place, there should be an option in SMS/Jdam mfd, to drop “In Tandem” , side by side or infront - behind … (2 triangles near OSB17 or 18 )
But as Red Dog “suggests” … read that section in dash1-1 for full details.
Cheers

must’ve missed that part back them.
Thx I’ll check in the manualEDIT: read the -34
page 206‘‘The F-16 cannot release JDAMs in ripple mode’’
Little triangles are for JSOW/WCMD
So, am I missing something?

My post . Or you found the page thanks to it, maybe.

No, It CAN , but only in JDAM ripple mode , scroll around that manual when you are already there. Option exists , it is only for Israel versions of F16’s, and it doesn’t use STP/Waypoints then rather TGT/Waypoints , slightly different concept.
Threre is youtube video , some 2-3 years old , how to ripple them , in Israel theatre … look around, you could miss it
Yes, that way it don’t have anything related to that 2 triangles on MFD , completely different,. Targets are setup in 2D map , and ripple count is setup in DED before/in flight.
But, DOH… NOT in pairs. Single only, but in burst qty.
My sincere apologies

yeah saw that.
so I kinda stand corrected, that for ‘‘normal’’ F16 you can only drop them one by one. So is there a reason IRL why only Israel’s F16 can drop more than 1 at a time?
Wont change anything in my life, just some nice2know -
Because they’re the customer and the customer is always right. Notice USAF has B-1, B-2, B-52. Israel don’t. This is why USA doesn’t max out the features of each particular model. It has a much deeper stable of designs.
