What theater is this.

It reminded me of something really great I once read. Cheers!

Your last paragraph reads like a book I would buy
Thank you very much for the kind words, Fluke and Punisher!
Iâve spent a lot of time on the ground in the R-2508 complex over the years, enjoying what I used to call âan airshow every dayâ, although itâs really more of a sound show, since the jets are usually far above. But even before I knew about Star Wars Canyon, I saw some nice close passes over the years, and had some other nice views, like looking down on F-117s and B-2s from the mountains, or seeing fighters popping flares while BFM-ing. Scanned some old 35mm slides recently and found pictures of an F-4 and a B-2, albeit not occupying very big parts of the slides!
In recent years, my trips to that part of the desert began to incorporate days at SWC. I was very sad to read about last yearâs crash there, and I hope see flights resume there someday. Even if not, thereâs a ton of wonderful terrain to explore out there, all of which has some chance of seeing aircraft. Iâve noticed pairs of T-Bird planes practicing `smoke-onâ loops above the Ballarat embayment in recent years., south of point Juliet.
If I could ever make a âcinematicâ video while flying over high-resolution R-2508 terrain in BMS, it would start at SWC, but would then go to other peaks and canyons that I came to know on foot and by by 4WD, and even by helo a few times.
For anyone who hasnât taken a U.S. vacation in the desert, itâs well worth spending time out there, as long as itâs not in the summer. Lots of great planes and mountains

Wow! Steep-sided mountains to fly through in BMS! This is really cool!
:bounce: :high5:
Iâm really glad to see someone made terrain like this. Granted, BMS still has limitations to the density of points in the terrain model, so the terrain is not very high-res. But seeing those big, beautiful, steep mountains, and seeing them through the canopy of a BMS Viper⌠thatâs really neat. Even if I donât get to fly in this theater, Iâm glad it exists.
Maybe someday weâll get high-density terrain in BMS, maybe we wonât, either way, Iâm going to keep learning BMS. Itâs still my âone and onlyâ when it comes to flight sims.
I like BMS so much Iâll always fly it, even without high-res terrain. The BMS Viper is just so sweet, as is the world of technical and combat detail in which it exists.
But this video reminds me of just how wonderful it would really be if BMS ever had higher-fidelity terrain. Oh man, what a dream!
âThe dream is always the sameâŚâ
Heading northeast over Olancha. Wide right turn around the north end of the Coso range. Talc City Hills in sight, and the Darwin Plateau just beyond. Can just catch sight of the far side of the valley, with the capping basalt sitting on the Paleozoic section, atop the Butte. Telescope off to the south. A few cars on Hwy 190 right below me. Drop-in point in sight. 500 feet, 500 knots. Call the TransitionâŚ
Thanx for your supportive post!

I stated that on Hoggit so why not here: itâs not a question of âifâ anymore but only of âwhenâ. Itâll take time but we will get there, you will one day be able to fly through the Grand Canyon in BMS with real mesh and not those steep triangles

Grand Canyon in BMS
Grand Canyon? Hell, thatâs gonna be quite a big Korean Peninsula map But seriously, are you going to make NTTR map?

I think itâs not about a specific map. Itâs about a overhaul and change of the terrain engine at all which is WIP

Thank you so much, I-Hawk!
Just knowing that youâre trying, that youâre working on it, means a tremendous amount to me! The fact that you are working to try and find a pathway towards higher-res terrain is really great. I am wishing you good luck, and sending you lots of happy and grateful thoughts.
I certainly wouldnât know how to do the programming, and the most sophisticated thing Iâve done with terrain data is to make topographic maps from EarthScope LIDAR data in ArcMap. But this is such a wonderful dream, even if itâs beyond my own ability to make happen. So grateful for everyone who makes BMS a reality.
In fact, part of why Iâm starting to realize the importance of patience is⌠Dega is absolutely right! Itâs time to start saving up for a new computer! Going to need a real heavy-hitter of a graphics card, a fast CPU, good cooling⌠but it would be oh so worth it! It was worth it to spend the money on the parts for this computer, my first PC build, just to play BMS in the first place. Itâll be worth saving up for the kinds of modern components I see on LTT or Jayz, in order to get good framerates over high-res terrain. So worth it.
I found a webpage of someone selling a painting of the Thunderbirds in the Grand Canyon. I like the quote:
âIn this painting I have brought together two of the things I love most - flight and the vast and awesome American landscape. For me, âThunder in the Canyonâ is what flight is all about.â
https://www.aviationarthangar.com/thincabywisp.html
And, of course, the beauty of flight isnât restricted to American landscapes. Could you imagine flying around the Alps near Aviano? Four words: Tre Cime di Lavaredo  Maybe Iâll go say hi to Triglav too, go check out some of those dolines.
Thank you in advance for your hard work!

thanx mylonite for giving words to my feelings for BMS. nobody could have expressed it better.
this is post is a full stop answer to those who compare BMS and DCS.
for DCS kids:
YOU WILL NEVER FIND OUT MEANING OF TRUE PLEASURE.
GO BMS GO. you did it before you will do it now. -

What about flying in the middle east ?
The deserts of the Sinai peninsula or Saudi Arabia, the Nile delta, Israelâs dead sea etcâŚ
