Cluster Bomb Results
-
Hello everyone, I had posted about CBU’s not to long ago and so I started using them not carpet bombing like I was trying to, but individually and this is the results from a mission I flew with a few friends in Balkans-Under Siege.
I had Burst Altitude set to 2500 and I had 8 CBU-87 CEM’s.

What was your target? The WalMart parking lot on pay day?

:laugh: Mech Battalion around the area. It was all vehicles that was destroyed. No fences or anything like that, they were all on the base of a mountain to the NE of Pec city. It was actually like 4 Battalions stacked on top of each other.

Occasionally you’ll get exceptionally high kill results when multiple units are stacked together.
It looks like your wingman (/men) did pretty well also.
Just curious …. You say you were using them individually. We’re you dropping CCIP or CCRP?

CCRP and I was doing level flight with TGP.

I video captured the entire flight and will work on getting it edited and uploaded. It was a very satisfying mission to say the least.

This is the reflect of stacking, not CBU. You can have the same with GBU-12 (or MK-82).

With GBU-12 I’d only be able to kill 2/3 vehicles per group whereas with CBU’s I was destroying 3/3 in one group out of the column. The targets were armor and artillery and apc’s no trucks.

This is the reflect of being at the right place at the right time. I seriously doubt his count would have been as high using iron bombs. Let the man revel in the glory of his 1st over 100 kill count mission and recognize his efforts he took to learn the benefits of high altitude CCRP release with cluster munitions instead of trying to downplay this please.
It’s called a “TARGET OF OPPORTUNITY” for a reason, and he took full advantage of that opportunity. Stacked or not, who cares.

Hi, all !
I seriously doubt his count would have been as high using iron bombs
Actually, I think in some conditions Lorik is true : I experienced the same kind of opprtunity some days ago , over Somalia .
It was the 1st time in fact, I saw so many GU at once in a single flight . There was , I remember , 2 or 3 battalions of mecanized units in the vicinity ( I was flying a Search and Destroy mission ) . As I spotted them in 2D screen(nearby friendly GU spotted them before for us) , I decided to give them a little hug . But I had no clues of what I would find once in the area of operation .
Me and my only wingman , bombed them with -EDIT-3*3000 lbs(!) LGB each…… (yes , thoses russian bombs are heavy.…KAB-1500L , when you just need more love to give…)
I can tell that every bomb killed about 10-15 units each(average count) .
This is he reflect of being at the right place at the right time
True !
he took full advantage of that opportunity
Let the man revel in the glory
True again . Well done Sir Jkot !

Nothing wrong about doing something right.

Mission description and video of debrief review. It took some effort to uncover this juicy target area for safe operation in the interdiction role. Also the operation area was next to the 10k ft peaks and deep valley area of the map.
An Air Interdiction 2 ship F-16 from Casale AB with a SEAD/DEAD F-18 escort flown from the carrier, later joined in with a single ship F-16 in our target area from a late arrival to our server. Area of operation was covered by 2 SA-6 battalions one stationary, one moving. Two SA-3 battalions, two AAA battalions. F-18 suppressed/destroyed all but one AAA battalion. F-16 #1 was armed with 8 CBU-87s in a full interdiction role, F-16 #2 was carrying 4 JSOW, 4 CBU-87s tasked to suppress/destroy the remaining AAA not covered by the F-18 and then support #1 in the interdiction role with remaining weapons. Once all AD were suppressed a interdiction proceeded at a leisurely pace with no AD or enemy aircraft harassing us until we finished pounding the area as BLUE ground forces began engaging the front line RED forces in close proximity to our mission area. A complete success of softening the area in a CAS role of our approaching ground forces. All CBU 87s were single releases at high altitudes for maximum effectiveness.
Haven’t had time to edit the mission video yet for upload so I’ll post this short video debrief for now.

" Butchery …… "

A flyer from mainland China once described our group at the time after a succesful high kill count mission and a multiple air engagement this way.
“You guys are bloodthirsty killers, like Babyface!”
I’m not that way in real life, I swear.

Load up with CBU’s. Drop one CBU on each HART sight along the FLOT. Guaranteed over 100 kills every time. Done it loads of times. Easy medals but fun.

This sim is turning quite genocidal ….:dhorse:
