On call CAS procedures
-
Hiu there!
I am a returning simmer, although I have been away from F4 for almost 15 years. I have spent a few weeks re-learning the basics of weapons and avionic usage. However I can’t find a complete guide about the procedures to be used for “On Call CAS” missions. I have read that the FAC is accessed by the AWACS menu but I haven’t found detailed info about checking in procedure, OS steerpoint set up, etc.Anyone willing to help?
Thank you-Nyquistt

I could be wrong, but I believe you simply check in on the tactical net. I think AWACS will start vectoring you to targets.

So I guess I just need to try. Thanks mate, I’ll give it a go.

yes, I know, good advice, but I don’t feel I’am at that point yet. Still need some practice

cool - if you ever need any help or practice, most of our group is on the same learning curve you are - that’s what we’re about. Helping & teaching.
Cheers!

Sounds like fear of failure or fear of embarrassment. (no offense intended).
Flying with other people will increase your learning exponentially. No matter what level you are at, you will learn MUCH faster flying with other people. Just be honest about where you are currently with your skills. Good instructors will adapt and you will be AMAZED at how fast you improve, not only in skill (flying quality), but also in knowledge (how to get better and/or how to use systems correctly).
That is just the plain, simple fact.

Hy, Nyquist, and welcome back!
Although my personal schedule has made MP flying tough, I can tell you that the 3 different MP “gangs” I’ve flown with over time have been very supportive. They are more then people I fly with, they are my friends. So, as long as you can basically fly, fight, and land the jet, don’t be afraid of trying it. So, IMHO, try it, and if you don’t immediately feel support, try elsewhere. I’ve heard good things about Stalker, BTW. Go over to the Base Ops Section and put in an ISO
As for your question: As Lightswitch said, you simply go to UHF 6 and your FAC will be there. If fact, he/she will act as a “Mini-AWACS” . I personally prefer the Pre-Planned CAS, and make a Killbox near the troops. Sometime the BMS FAC modeling bugs me. Sometimes he’ll call a target 50 miles away, then keep calling it as long as your on Uniform 6.
Again, it’s just a personal preference thing, but PP CAS is something you may enjoy, too -

+1 for generally flying multiplayer, but also “On-Call CAS” does not work in singleplayer in my experience. See this topic https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?38401-Flying-On-call-CAS-in-Singleplayer-campaign-FAC-is-A-10-How-do-I-check-in&highlight=CAS+AWACS

We’ve made a webinar with a RL german airforce JTAC. Maybe thats also informative for you guys:

Guys, thank you all for the info and suggestions, I really appreciate. I have tried the mission and I can confirm that there is basically no real FAC implemented. Or maybe I should say that I wasn’t able to make it work.
What happened is that I could ask for target vectors on the tech net (the AWACS I suppose). The answers were bullseye bearing and distance - which felt a bit too approximate to me. There was another flight in the same package assigned to FAC. It was an A10C, but I found no way to contact this guy (maybe my fault?). Anyway, you can still succeed in this type of missions, expecially if you have pre-stored the position of the targets in the data cartridge, but you are basically on your own.
Again, if I am missing something I would greatly appreciate any other info.

Sounds right.

Hi, Nyquistt,
There is one thing that adds to the FAC experience, for me .at least. Don’t call for 'vector to target", just take advantage of the FAC as Mini-AWACS and call “declare” when you have a target picked out. That to me is a “FAC-like Thing” -

This is not about exams, this is about flying together. As others said, fly and see if you feel comfortable. If you don’t, change. The exam is the other way, and they didn’t pass it.

Thanks! Could you share the checklist? Looks very clear
