Can't identify my targets and friendly fire alot.

There are techniques for visual ID that help. For one, I generally don’t look at the whole airplane - I mostly look just for the rudder shape. I also concentrate on edges…and angles of those edges. A lot of the time the relative motion of the target helps with that. It’s also easier to distinguish motion and angle rates than to look directly at a moving target…and there’s also using your fovial vision. It’s not just what you see, it also how you see that can make a difference…that you can see!
So far, the only one that can give me a problem (WW II or jet) is a Eurofighter - from a lot of angles they look like Vipers…until they go wing high.
Hi, Stevie. I think J’s point is that he can’t see them . So, while all your points are good ( I even looked up foveal vision ), if he can’t even see them… I understand that problem very well.

The obligatory: Smart Scaling ON or OFF? - if OFF turn it ON

Red Dog, can you witness that?

…and as mentioned, this is way the FIRST thing you do is to immediately try and get him across your 3-9 if you even feel that he’s not friendly…whether you can see him or not. Even if you can’t see him for range you can then get a sensor on him - if not a weapon - and assist your determination.
This is another hard lesson that even I have yet to learn as instinctive reaction - when to stop being fixated on what is in front of you and refocus onto what matters more!

I admire OP, who can’t ID someone 5 o’clock, don’t turn to them (if I followed Stevie) and still frat kill them (see title). Power of a** fireballs.

i have a problem of friendly fire and turning to face the enemy. my eyesight is low and I cant see if the target I’m locked on to is a f-16(friendly) or mig-??'s. I try zooming in but maneuvering while looking away is kind of hard for me. if someone has a solution to hits please help.
use IFF, use TGP, use AWACS aaaaaaaaand…. the practice makes you a good pilot

Thank you.
I’m not really questioning OP there, just pointing that we’re probably not answering his real question.

its been quite a while since ive read this post… i still cant figure it out since I don’t play cause of my stick that is in pieces and I cant afford another one but thank you all for the support

Here is a cheat you can use if you have a wingman but I don’t like to use it unless I really can’t get an id on a target and he is danger close. Tell your wingman to “attack my target”, if it is a friendly he will refuse. (probably get you a nasty warning in rl though) Haven’t tried this on 4.35 yet but it works on previous versions.

U can lock a target on the FCR and look on the TGP (AA) on the other mfd, ususally u can spot the type of aircraft from 30nm.

I didn’t read back this whole thread so apology if already mentioned –
Hitting [4] to padlock then [L] to “look closer” can be a very powerful combo, in a visual-range dogfight situation (which I think is what you’re originally asking about).
Also, turn on smart-scaling, to help further.
I actually mapped two buttons on my stick to these callbacks… so I don’t have to reach for keyboard.
Disclaimers: I completely suck at dogfighting, and I don’t even have track-ir…
