SA3 & Mavericks

“Mav-G. Compared to the D, it has greater range,” not sure that’s implemented in BMS ….

Damn North Koreans hacked the destruct codes!

Alfred, don’t feel bad. The Mav Cockpit Dance gets real interesting when the flying telephone poles are around.
Personally, I agree with Oak about using the WPN page when in close. I also, agree with Icer about “shotgun weapons” , but that’s another question.
One thing I haven’t seen mentioned-Use Mav-G. Compared to the D, it has greater range, bigger warhead, and Force Correlation Track with TMS right.I was aware of the range advantage in the G. What does Force Correlation Track do?

Guides toward an arbitrary spot on the image (ground / side of building / bridge-span etc). Instead of point-tracking on a heat source.
If you can clearly see the targets as dots on the WPN page view but can’t get a lock on them … try long-press TMS-right (or double-tap? can’t remember) to change to “area” mode.
It might not hit target directly, but with the larger blast/frag warhead, it should be able to damage or destroy non-hardened nearby units (eg. launchers, radars).
It’s a bit cheesy … I would think, in reality, if you can visually resolve a high-contrast shape on the IR image, the weapon could too. Well maybe not in 1980s tech, but surely there have been upgrades since…

It’s an armor penetrating missile though, not a HE.

Exactly, perfect for a bunker buster with it’s delayed fuse.

Good Day, All,
Ironman , The BMS Manuals say 12 miles for D, 15 for G. My past experience has been they do seem modeled that way. I figure any added range is good.
Airtex, FC is TMS right single press until “AREA” shows up on the right side of the Mav WPN page.
Lorik, the fact the Mav G is AP my only concern with using it. My personal view is a 500lb warhead, as opposed to a 150 on the D ( if memory serves) is going to ruin a SAM’s day ,if I can get it close, even if it is AP. And, FC is not my Plan A. But, it’s nice to “have it in your back pocket” when they start shooting at you.
Second opinions on all that are most welcome…
Plus, for what it’s worth, waaaay back (like 4.33-or .34 era) I once did an TE experiment of comparing kill percentage of the HARM vs.Mav G in good old Fox Charlie (I was thinking in SEAD, not DEAD, terms) . I got more kills with Mav. -
Just wanted to remind you that it is very easy to defeat SA-3 with putting it on 3-9 and ECM and then flying in hot and jink left and right. The missile will miss you because it is heavy and fast.

True, K. Plus, one of the cool things about the Vault Threat Guide is it gives “avoidance” tips
