Solved ATC Comms Grayed Out
-
To me it’s not clear: do you actually change preset/frequency when instructed to do so? Or do you stay on preset 4 (i presume)?
-
There is no bug here but a user issue…
Comms menu is greyed out when you are not on the right frequency and try to do an action that is not related to the channel you’re on.
Make sure you save the DTC before flight and autofill frequencies vie the DTC box…

Do you think In real you would answer to your controller who instructed you to switch :« no sir, I won’t change frequency , I’m good with you on this freq » ?

I once did.
“Wake up” he replied. “You only fly in your dreams”.

Just for the story, actually, yes you can. But ONLY on an emergency situation or if the change could lead into an emergency situation.
Out of BMS scope.

I can… fly or stay on frequency?
EDIT: “the change”, ok, nevermind…

@vandroy Preset #4 is only to “Report Airborne” on departure and to ask for landing information on initial approach. After you depart for example no one tells you to switch to #6 (Tactical) but that’s what you need to do to communicate with AWACs or use functions to communicate (not “verbally”, that’s Comm2) with your flight…
-
It’s reasonable that, because it’s up to you - the pilot - only.
With best regards.

No, and that’s why I asked if he is changing preset/frequency while scrollinf T submenus or is trying to contact tower and ground just pressing again T. From what he says i can’t understand.@icer ok but for what I read he is landing and in this case you are told to switch tower frequency
Yes he was on approach frequency and has been Requested to switch to tower for final landing clearance

@mav-jp Yes, I was advised to change to tower. I pressed “T” once to change from approach to tower frequency. Tower commands all grayed out.
-
@maxwaldorf I did save the DTC before flight. Please reference manual on “autofill frequencies vie the DTC box…”, thank-you. I can manually input the frequency on the scratchpad of the DED to eliminate the grayed out comms on the appropriate COMM pages. It would be nice not to have to manually input the the frequency. I cannot find the “autofill” function in the DTC box. It would be easier to use the up/down button for the pre channels and hit “enter” to select that pre channel frequency on the UFC.

Yes, but did you change the UHF channel back to tower ( Ch#3)??

Ok, pressing “T” does not change anything, it simply brings up the “Tower” menu. If you are are set to “Approach” (preset #4), try pressing Comm1, then 3, then Enter on the ICP… that switches you to Tower to report on final, etc.
-
Not even the need to enter the COMMS 1 or COMMS .
Presets (and the corresponding freq behind a preset) can be changed from the Main DED just by using the 4 ways DCS and the Rocker Switch -

BMS is modeling a real radio, in order to change the frequency you actually need to CHANGE the frequency of your radio
Wether you use a PRESET from the Comm Ladder OR you type directly the frequency in the ICP
-
@oakdesign Video shows UHF preset channel number, 4.35.3 DED shows frequency. Using up/down rocker button on ICP does not change the frequency.

I think it’s time to RTFM

@mjones has nothing to do with 4.35U3
Apperently you are flying the Training TR_BMS_03_Landing and there the UHF frequency is manually entered by the setup script as part of that training is to learn how to enter frequnecies manually.
In any other Training or TE or campaign flight you have the DED CNI (Communication,Navigation and Identification page) set to show presets and not frequency by default.Even the training manual for that TE will tell you
At 10 Nm Kunsan approach will call you to switch to Tower frequency. Input preset #3 or 292.3 into the COM1
radio and ‘Request Landing’ at initial contact with the tower with ‘t t 2’. Tower will clear you to continue
inbound and ask you to “Report on Final”So if you do so and hit ICP COM1 on then ICP 3 followed by ICP Enter you magically switched to preset #3 (which is the same as freq 292.3
