F4Wx – Real Weather Converter
-
Sometimes, NOAA’s services are off line. I work with services provided online by the NGS, and at times they are out. Just have to sit back and wait…
-
Is there somewhere intuituve we can find background maps for all the theaters?
-
-
@lorikeolmin Thank you very much!
-
Will this work with the changes to 4.36 .fmap files or should we wait for an update to the applet?
-
@Ahmed I noticed something strange with F4WX: I downloaded a recent weather forecast from KTO and I think there is a mistake with the FMAP for time UTC +9
I think that 00:00 (UTC+9) is noon and not midnight because the temperatures are always higher at 00:00(UTC+9) than 12:00(UTC+9)~10°c (green area)
~20-25°c (yellow area)

I wonder if that could be related to what I have noticed which is the moon position does not match what it should actually be based on the time of the night.

@suhkoi69 BMS regardless of theater is Zulu time based. In order for things to work correctly with BMS 4.35/4.36 the hour for ‘Current Time’ and ‘BMS Time’ must be the same (for instance if ‘Current Time’ is 03:00 so also ‘BMS Time’ has to be 03:00).
In the past (pre BMS 4.35) adjustment for time zone was necessary but like said above it is not required anymore. -
@dcraig1 thanks oh I understand… I probably made a mistake when I saved without knowing it , my bad!
the BMS time in F4WX app may be confusing …according to my last check, all works fineI have understood my mistake : if by misfortune, you check “save sequence”, automaticcally, the BMS time will always appear the day1: 9:00 under the map even if you slide the time ruler…to avoid this stupid error, it would be better to replace BMS time by local time) and current time by BMS time (zulu time)

Hi all,
I haven’t had any time to dedicate to F4Wx or even monitoring this thread lately and it will take probably a few months until I have, so thanks to those helping people resolve their questions and issues lately.
Just a quick bit of information: F4Wx works with BMS 4.36 without the need for any updates. There is only one new feature of the weather engine introduced in 4.36 that F4Wx doesn’t take advantage of, yet.
As stated by some, since 4.35 the “sync with real timezone” option shouldn’t be used and I’ll remove it on the next update.
Due to my lack of time to dedicate to this, it is my idea to release the source code and host a repository for F4Wx on github, as my contribution to the community and so that whoever wants to contribute can do it through forks and pull requests. I just want to refactor some of the ugly code from many years ago before I do this. But I hope to do that at some point this year.
-
@Ahmed Thanks for your contribution!
I did realize an issue with view distance in sunny weather where the visibility was very poor given the clear sky…
Maybe something to check later on (might also be a faulty data input).Cheers
-
@MaxWaldorf This probably has to do with what I mention is not implemented yet and BMS is just filling for that. In any case I’d have to see the result. Hazy skies while still being clear of clouds are a thing irl.
-
@Ahmed Agreed with hazy clear skies! @MaxWaldorf Flight instructor hat on, this weather phenomenon is usually more often by the visibility restriction called mist (coded BR, short for French “brume” in the international METAR system). Laypersons often call drizzle “misting” but it is not the same thing. Usually mist is a 3-5sm mile visibility range, but technically it can go down to 1km.
One other thing is that real life aviation systems max out at 10sm visibility, where actual visibility can be and usually is much further than that.

No it’s not
The only thing in 4.36 not implemented in F4Wx is fog altitude
In this case this is a visibility issue so I would call that a bug

Hi, I’m having an issue downloading weather: the box where choose download time it’s completely empty. My ver it’s 1.05….
-
@Ahmed
HI, just to report to You that, after few days F4Wx it’s unusable. After choosing “download weather, the window with files to pick it’s completely empty. Someone else experiencing same? -
@Gancio Just tried it and works as expected
- Choose theater
2.Download Weather - New window pops up, choose a line and download starts, dont take the first or second line
- Choose theater
-
@Toner
Many thanks for reply Toner, the problem is that the box, from where usually I choose the file it’s completely empty. This happen from a couple of days. I’m using F4Wx since it’s out.
Whichever theater I choose, after asking for the download, the window with the files with the timetables is empty, as if it did not receive any files to be downloaded -
@Ahmed
Hi Ahmed, after a little investigation involving a friend, I tried to download and install F4Wx on a laptop, which I don’t use for the simulator. On this computer everything works, I download the gfs files and the window is full of files to choose from. . Has anything changed since the first days of August? In those days F4Wx worked perfectly, I’ve been out for holidays and now no longer on the computer I use for the simulator. Thank you -
I see no issue on my system.
If you are still having this issue, I suggest that you make sure that you are not blocking F4Wx on your firewall or something.
