Has 4.37 Changed the Harrier FM?
-
Different weather conditions, maybe?

In editing the av8 (dot) dat files I porked my install. Reinstalling now but there is a difference between the two av8b.dat files. It’s line 24 or 25 that reads something like “AOA Max AI” and has a value of +25.000000.

@Smokin-hole if the harrier data is missing those lines, its screwed then.

I went back to 4.36 and the Harrier is easily controlled in hover. And quite responsive. Totally different than 4.37. I tried moving the DAT files to 4.37 but that caused a game crash.
Can you do a comparison of .dat files in WinMerge to see changes (I have no clue)?
I think these
dat
files are justtxt
files so yes. I looked (assuming “AV-88_afm.dat” is the file in question) and they are identical. That’s wild, then it’s somewhere else I assume…
“I tried moving the DAT files to 4.37 but that caused a game crash.” is a little concerning. no idea why that would happen, though there must be some kind of check on acdata file (the date is different?)

Ok - compared all AV8 dat files in Winmerge
AV-8B_afm.dat - Identical
AV-8B.dat -

I doubt in matters but line 24 of av8b.dat are different between 4.37 and 4.36.
But anyway, if curious, just try hovering with the two versions. Take the training AV8+ in the WASP TE and remove the loadout.
Lift to a hover in each version. One is easily controlled. The other has no control at all. -

I posted a similar thread in the Technical Support section. Please merge or delete. Thanks!

@Kavelenko - No. I only fly the BMS Viper, but I’ve had a lot of experience with RL Harriers in the past.
From what I’ve seen of screenshots here, the BMS Harrier model has been drastically over-thrusted in the past - people are able to hover with too many stores (way too heavy), too high, etc.
So just guessing, if there have actually been any changes to the Harrier FM I should think they may have altered the engine/thrust parameters to be more realistic. That would have been one of the easiest things to change, IMO.
Also - you may want to check that once you do get aboard the CV that the ship speed is not zero…pretty sure that’s the case in RL…the ship continues to generate some wind over deck for recovery.
OTOH - also check hover performance ashore, and at various gross weights. Also check that your throttle is upwards of 100% (102.5% with water selected…if that’s modeled) in hover - this should provide adequate bleeds to power the puffers…but there could also have been changes to the rudder calibration that affects the yaw puffer - check feel for that too.
Suggestions for things to try and bracket the problem - as we say in the biz - “Welcome to Flight Test!”

There may be multiple things to complain about but in my case, I am not talking about performance or the ability to sustain altitude or to takeoff or to decelerate quickly to a stop. I am talking simply about the ability to apply any sort of control over pitch, roll or yaw with zero speed over the ground at any weight in calm wind.

Code issue
I accidentally deleted some code while coding the f15 control moduleSorry guys
-
@Mav-jp thanks JP! Does it affect other aircraft as well?
-
@Mav-jp Well done man, at least you found the issue, so appreciated.
-
Very cool! Thanks for figuring it out so quickly.

No

OK actually my deletion in the code was NOT an accident. It was deliberate and right.
It just reveals that the av8 AFM has a mistake in it
PUT
1 # Has NASA Model
instead of
0 # Has NASA Model
in the AV8 AFM files
