Good day, All. We have “installed” IDIAS in the F-18C and also tested in the F-35C. To do so, go to x/4.37/data/OFM Theater/sim/acdata for your jet and change avionicsRWRType to 3. Then , you paste …
SimXMTASPISOper 116 0 0XFFFFFFFF 0 0 0 1 “ECM: XMTASPIS Knob - Operate”
SimXMTASPISStdby 116 0 0XFFFFFFFF 0 0 0 1 “ECM: XMTASPIS Knob - Standby”
SimXMTASPISToggle 116 0 0XFFFFFFFF 0 0 0 1 “ECM: XMTASPIS Knob - Toggle”
to x/4.37/User/config/BMS-Auto.key and assign a keybound and/or HOTAS command as you prefer.

That is indeed the trade off, you do lose the HUD RWR display. That is why there is some debate as to whether we include IDIAS in our upcoming OFM Theaters or go for the more realistic version with the HUD display.
Which would you like? -
the main question for me is what implications does it have on the ECM system? My understanding is that only the HOTAS function is affected? If so, I wouldn’t mind to change the RWR. If XMIT1-3 still works as intended I think the relevant functions are implemented.

I’ve been testing to try to answer that very question, primarily in the Dogfight module. The results are somewhat subjective. The questions are:
- Are there any noticeable difference in sensor performance between Avionics and ECM Priority . Answer: Unclear, at least in the close ranges involved in DF. I’m about to start testing in real missions.
- Is there difference in the jamming effectiveness, in terms of both the “old” jammer vs. IDIAS , and the 2 XMIT priorities. Answer: no degradation
-
@Seifer The .3dpit reload doesnt work for me even that i followed your steps. (Trying to update to see hotspot changes) do i need another command for updating 3dbuttons file ?

Good Day, All Here is today’s update…
- Preparations continue for the the release of our Theaters. Maybe 1-2 Mafia Weeks .We have projects going with the EF-18M and the F-15E and a lot of other goodies which we hope to include. We don’t foresee issues with including the new 4.37 mirrors and CATM. Although using IDIAS in-sim is fun, we have decided , after fairly extensive testing, to leave the Hornet,SH,and F-35C ECM’s in their current “naval” version. The realism of the HUD RWR display won out. Another factor in the decision was the ease of putting it in you jet-of-choice( see my post of 5 days ago)
- In our Discord yesterday the topic came up of what is the best way to get our data/files.etc. to the BMS Dev’s , to facilitate their inclusion in the base BMS. I reached out to Seifer who is going to suggest to Max a sub-forum called “Community Contributions” We want to avoid making the Devs have to deal with 'mega-threads"
-
@drtbkj You already have a thread here :

@MaxWaldorf @Radium The essence of the discussion we’ve been having on the OFM Discord is that it would be better to post new and separate threads to highlight issues that we may have fixed in the OFM theaters, but you guys on the BMS team may not yet be aware of— instead of burying them in these mega-threads where they can get lost.
This is strictly related to items that are closer to actionable bug reports (e.g. auto-throttle not working in the F-18, missing hotspots preventing older jets from being ramp-startable, missing mirrors in the cockpit, misalignment with probe and drogue, etc.). If we’ve already implemented a fix, we will include it for your convenience, or at the very least a starting point if helpful.
The uptake of the Tornado cockpit fixes, or some of the issues recently highlighted with the Harrier are good examples of this. Other recent examples are:
https://forum.falcon-bms.com/topic/24349/av8-refuel-probe-fix
https://forum.falcon-bms.com/topic/24348/fixing-the-ef-18m-spanish-hornet
In other words, the important thing is that these will be in new threads— whether they should go in “Technical Support,” “Community Mods and Tools,” or some new sub-forum, I don’t think anyone really cares, so long as they are maximally visible and actionable.
-
@Gadfly I kind of agree with the idea. But instead of creating a new forum, what if we use the existing forums inside “Community Mods and Tools” and prefix all the thread titles:
TO BMS DEVS: some subject
For example, in the Tornado case above, inside Community Mods and Tools -> Avionics and Flight Models:
TO BMS DEVS: Tornado Cockpit fixes.
Would something like that work?

Hi, Seifer. As we talked about in our discussion, the whole idea is to facilitate the sharing of info to the Devs in a way that’s actionable. Max, that’s what I was asking. Whether it is Seifer’s suggested “Community Contribution” thread, an existing thread, or Discord, is fine with us.
What we want to avoid are 'mega-threads", where everything is jumbled together. We are having to deal with that even over in our Discord.
To quote Brother Gadfly " In other words, the important thing is that these will be in new threads— whether they should go in “Technical Support,” “Community Mods and Tools,” or some new sub-forum, I don’t think anyone really cares, so long as they are maximally visible and actionable."
And easily visible to the Devs. IMHO, somewhere in the Forum, and all in one place. makes sense. Also, we request that it be made a Stickee.
But again, the question is: what is the best way to share the info? -
@Seifer I’m personally totally fine with that, if using “Community Mods and Tools” and adding a “TO BMS DEVS:” prefix makes the posts easy to find for you guys on the team, and isn’t annoying to anyone!
We’ll discuss this around the OFM Discord. Obviously I can’t speak for everyone working on OFM projects, but it works for you guys, I can’t imagine major objections to making this S.O.P. Thanks!
-
@Gadfly let’s try that and see if it works.

Sounds good , Seifer. One question, and let’s use Brother Dardo’s TGP post as an example. He posted in the “Hornet Improvements” thread. Does that work for the Devs, or should we make a separate “EF-18M TGP fix” (or whatever)thread. What is the best way for us to balance not making mega-treads with the fact that a one-time post will gradually go down the list?
-
@drtbkj please create a new thread in theappropriate community mods forum, prefix the title with: TO BMS DEVS: f18 hornet xyz…
If we follow this pattern, I believe we will have progress.
-
@Seifer Thanks Seifer. I’ve passed that along

Good Day, All. Here is an U1 update. We spent yesterday looking at U1 as related to our Mafia stuff. We have the new F-18’s working in our db. Good news #1
Good news number 2 is that the BMS Devs did some really good work, especially with the F18E/F. Not only were they able to remove the spin behavior ,but they did it while retaining the autothrottle, etc… We saw how they did that, and are looking at ways to put it to work in jets like the F-35C. We are also looking at the Harrier.
Also, the Mafia continues work on the F-15E, and there may be more coming about the Tornado -
@drtbkj
If I may add, an advanced flight model for the Eurofighter Typhoon is also available and a refurbishment of Qawa’s Eurofighter Typhoon 3D cockpit from FF5 is also in the works and making good progress (with Qawa’s approval).
