[BMS Roadmap 4.37 U3] News from the BMS Team
-
It’s awesome to see how far BMS has come even in just the last 2 or 3 years! Great work!
-
Question at @I-Hawk, does new terrain provide some extra measures to prevent classic Falcon ground unit movement issues (vehicles drive trough active runways or over water)? I haven’t seen in BMS last two ones, but first one still happens on occasion.
-
The new terrain looks amazing. Doesn’t look like BMS 4.38 looks more like BMS 5.0
Looks like a huge jump in graphics and terrain modelling.

@Xeno I think @I-Hawk answered this on the Reddit thread https://www.reddit.com/r/hoggit/comments/14fz0so/artillery_units_crossing_the_runway_on_their_way/jp48ih4/

I’m less of an expert to this area, but we have someone working on that code and in fact things are being improved as we speak. I’m sure it’ll be better

@I-Hawk
Thanks for the answer, that would be fantastic to squash a bug from Falcon 3.0 days (yep GUs roaming in places where they shouldn’t bug is that old ). -
@MaxWaldorf
No words for your constant, huge effort on improve and maintain this sim on top of the sky.
Got one observation about the hardware, 'cause new changelog figuring out as a sort of milestone for BMS; but how much will be the cost to pay for these improvements, in terms of hardware requested ? I mean, usually graphic enanchements tends to be greedy of resources - and it’s normal - thus the way to use the sim would be either reduce setting or upgrade the hardware. In the first case, you’ll go ahead to fly missing part of new upgrades, while the second case is a pure matter of money. Wanna be clear: this is not polemic, it’s just my curiosity on how developers works and if the hardware resources are a thing of interest in the process developments. -
@Coral36 Honestly, BMS users have been very lucky with constant performance improvements through the last couple of updates. I think 4.38 will force some users to come into this decade’s hardware or maybe late last if you like to buy used. That’s a pretty fair upgrade expectation for finally a current generation of terrain engine.
Here is @I-Hawk’s current experience with current 4.38 development build performance and hardware expectations that are subject to change as it comes into release form:

@Coral36 sounds like you’re asking, what are their decision-making tenets in regards to hardware requirements … I can’t answer that – but historically, it seems to be something along the lines of “run ok with graphics options dialed down, on high-end hw from 10 years ago – run great on current-gen high-end hw”
from another thread similar to what Snake linked to, it sounds like the inflection point for “high-end” current hw is a GPU with 8GB or more of VRAM.
there are only a few GPU skus with more than 8Gb (4070+, 3080+ and some 3060), so unless you plan on buying one of those already … I would wait for 4.38 to release, before upgrading anything now.

Yes, exactly. That was my intent. I just wondering how developers can balance new improvements/new features and usability for as much users as possible. Anyway, my hw is good so far, we’ll see with 4.38.

@airtex2019 Thanks for answer. I’m reading that thread (@i-hawk and other guys); My hw perform perfectly so far, but I’m a 'lil bit concerned about 4.38 …

Agree with you, Bro.
I decided to send my PC to a fitness training course, on my own. Let’s see how things will be after that,With best regards.

Fitness course !! Sounds pretty cool !

Well, when didn’t good manners fit, you know…With best regards.

Thank you for the news!
Are you planning to increase the number of 3d buildings in cities in 4.38? -
Bout’ vram …
Will this fit into minimum - recommended ? -
@white_fang Anything with a dedicated gpu would run
