Updating some 3d models for ground vehicles
-
yesterday I started updating the 3D models of some vehicles that I thought were necessary on Falcon. I started with the PT76 and i will finish and proceed to another one tjat you can also suggest, i’ll leave you the first pic of it. Enjoy!
-
@Betto great work! are the tracks gonna be that high poly? i would say you can achieve something similar with textures
-
@okayasugf thanks mate, no actually it’s my firts time modelling the tracks so i’ve done the best i could to learn something new

M60 Tank!

@VDK roger!
-
-
@Betto looking fantastic!
also, if you looking for some challenge, the merkava (I->IV) series would be super helpful for the Israeli theater
-
@vAiCon already in my mind the Siman and the Baz family are definitely gonna be done
-
Just finished the external model and the basic colors, i think this is the fair amount of detail for a military sim where you spot targets at 30+ thousands feet. I will continue to update this model with dust, scratches and all of the signs that a pt76 can have; I will now move on to the next tank that needs a rework and at some point i will finally finish all of the final details for the models. Hope you enjoy see you soon!

What tank?

Great work!
Just one doubt:
Isn’t it better, while improving current models, to keep the polygon count to a minimum?
I am referring in particular to bolts and above all, as already @okayasugf mentioned, to wheels and tracks.
Details that perhaps, given the nature of the simulator, can be simplified with a smart use of the textures.Anyway, great work!

@Xeno Yes you are right. I didn’t consider the lod.
Anyway, I think it could save a lot of polygon and modeling work. -
@Topo-0 Yep, but do we want to get stuck in low quality models for eternity?Also many 3D artists are more discouraged by limits put on their work than amount of work needed to get things exactly how they wanted it to be.
BTW poly count is less of a problem since new 3D model format was introduced. Now draw call count is the arch-enemy.
-
@Xeno In fact, you’re probably right.
-
@Xeno completely, but as 3d artists, its still necessary to be efficient while we work, imagine a model of millions of tris, then make that into a battalion of them , draw calls or not, that is not efficient way to work. But i still agree on the fact that yes, details could be added.

@VDK The M60
-
Yes guys you are all right on the amount of poligons added here, I am making those models with slightly more detail just to set a quality standard that can be lowered if necessary for the sim, anyway thanks to all of you

@Betto GO BETTOOOOOOOOOOOOO
