New NVIDIA drivers

I bought the 980GTX 2 months ago. I have not noticed any coil whine at all. I have played COD Advanced Warfare and Farcry 4 with this card on a 4k resolution and not hard any coil whine, just my 2 cents.
That is good to hear. I am considering 2x980’s too. What brand did you get?

Is that “whine” produced by fan-speed or elec-statics of some sort. The latter would be really poor indication.

@A.S:

It’s the coils themselves starting to vibrate and resonate as the electric current flows through them, and the sound varies when the characteristics of the current changes. In graphic cards, the sound usually changes with the frame rate (and maybe the stress a game forces on the hardware), with the tone getting higher as the framerate gets higher. Sometimes V-Syncs helps with that, but the coils can often be still audible within the standard ~60fps range. In certain circumstances (usually a game cinematic like intro, 2D main menu etc) the frames often get to hundreds per seconds, making the coils whine. In such cases, turning V-Sync ON through drivers may help, as the game’s own sync may be functional during actual 3D only.
My GTX 760 whines a bit in 2D menus with hundreds of frames, but in most demanding games, when the framerate is capped, I can only hear a bit of lower-toned buzzing. I mostly play with headphones so I can’t even hear that. As far as I know, coil whine is not essentially a problem with the card, but it’s obviously desirable to not hear any strange sound while playing.

At harlequin. Sorry for the delay. I have 2 monitors one projector. Projector is hdmi to card 1080p the second monitor is dvi to card 1080p the 3rd monitor is plugged to motherboard. Forget what res 1440 x 9 something… vga.
With the previous card (ati 6970) all was fine.
With the 980 there’s micro stutters with the cockpit extraction.
The vga monitor is what I use for the cockpit extraction and that sits clamped to desk in front of me… at an angle with the usb cougar mfds.
I didn’t have to mess with windows with the new card. All displays firing up as before.
The dvi monitor is for team speak viewing track ir… steam etc etc…

Terrible noise! I have same noises with my ATI 2600 when even pressing the button for my desktop view in OS X! Very annoying indeed imho!

Merry Christmas all! Guess what? Yup nvidia fixed micro stutters for the 980! (Probably accidentally through some other fix.)
Latest release 347.09.
Read something about multi display something… very quick glance at release notes.
Works!

Just tried 347.09 with 3xSLI Surround setup. As you get into the 3d pit, it is constantly flicking between desktop and game really fast, and unfortunately never stops. Almost spew inducing.
Edit: Resolved issue by changing SLI compatibility bits to 0x02400009 through Nvidia Inspector, as seen in this thread.

Yup! Seems to have fixed stuttering for my 660ti as well. Time will show if the driver works as well as 306.97.

Ok Vyper and I did some more extensive testing of 347.09 with our SLI/3 monitor setups. The good news was that this driver release fixed almost all of what ailed us. We did NOT have to mess with any NVidia Inspector or 3D settings at all. The only thing both of us noticed was that if the BMS Vsync was disabled you will get wing rock at 650 knots plus but only over water. If you were around the beach area it wouldn’t start up yet but as the shore disappeared behind you the worse the wing rock problem became. I turned Vsync back on from the BMS setup and that fixed my wing rock over water problem but it didn’t with Vyper. We compared settings and found that he was running full screen and I was running windowed mode. As soon as he switched to windowed mode his wing rock disappeared as well.
This was also with re-enabling settings that had long since been turned off to tame the wing rock beast. Settings like lighting per pixel and HDR lighting and re-enabled now. There was no stuttering what so ever in either Korea or in Israel.
We both tested in Korea and in Israel theaters for performance. This is a damned good driver release. We might finally have a worthy successor to 306.97.

System: Single Gtx 670, Win7-64bit,
Tested 347.09 in Sinai, Kto etc. Its better then the 306.97! All eyecandy on. SILK!

Just tested it as well and no more stutters so far. I’m really happy they fixed it already.

I agree. I tested it on the Balkans, Instant Action, and it performed well without touching the Inspector or 3D settings, and without overclocking the video card. The clarity of small objects seems to be better, although that might be my imagination.

FYI, for me with GTX-780 with drivers 347.88 game is totally smooth, not even seen 1 stutters since installing. Amazing considering the HUGE stutters I used to see with previous drivers.

Same here but I use a GTX-460.
