World Theater

It doesn’t make sense for military simulator.
It is good for civil simulations … eg. P3D, FSX … on Vatsim (traffic online).EGHI

This I dispute. Plenty of purpose to a theater without edges to it.
With that said however, for the F4 engine that is so far out of scope, its a bit of a laugh.

F… wine… I read War Thunder… WTF???

Of course you would……
That being said I would love to hear the purposes of a theater with no edges?

Well, you could fly around the world, for one.
-
And then you could fly back.

World Theater? Okay, let’s do it…
We will need approx 192 x 64 segment theaters, assuming each theater covers a 10x10 degree block of the planet, and use a shared one for the oceans. 648 if we want to simulate it to the very nth degree, including all the little islands in the middle of the South Pacific and the likes.
Now, given it takes a good 4-6 weeks to have even a basic theater mapped to the extent you can even hope to have a ground war working properly, we are now looking at 192 x 5 weeks, or three years just to get the basics done.
Next week need to get all the area relevant tiles created for the terrain texture - I will hazard a guess at least 3-4 months without allowing for fixes, etc.
So all in all we a re looking at completing the project in maybe 2037?
Any volunteers for a Project Leader…?

AFAIK all Falcon theaters are flat maps so you couldn’t fly around the world. Also the projection distortions would become problematic. I think simulating a spherical Earth is step one to producing a flight sim in the modern age. We have the computing power and techniques. There’s really no excuse. You don’t have to fill the world with terrain, but put it on a globe.

Its about exe as well.
Current BMS exe and build in utils can not count theater bigger than 128x128.
256 theater in BMS = program crash ATM.
AF can handle 256 segment one, perhaps even bigger…
512 seg is reasonable maximum imo, regarding flat terrain…but creator should choose among angular vs measurment vs oriantation distortion. But it is doable considering each continent can have own projection.
No utils and no player base supported exe tho. -

Well, pretty sure FSX does that… I know Orbiter does that…

Remember too that you are limited on tiles as well……

In a combat sim I dont understand why you want to ferry……
FSX yes BMS no

I for one see no issues with performing a ferry flight from within CONUS to the MEAO. Would be great to be able to do that in BMS. The fact that we will likely never be able to does not make it a less interesting idea to think about.
Perhaps it could be easier dismissed if FSuX had a flight model for the F-16 worth the paper it is printed on…
I mean thats like saying in a combat sim you dont understand why you want to simulate training flights…

Yes it would be ‘nice’. I would also like to ferry between theaters of operation and deploy to global hotspots as they emerge . But…
a. Technical limitations do not now allow a global theater with current code - number of tiles, number of objectives, number of teams and flat terrain come to mind.
b. Consider none of the 3rd party region specific theaters is complete after 15 years of falcon modding, and only a handful are actually playable to varying degrees, I think that speaks to itself about the lack of required resources such as time, knowledge and experience, needed for theater making in general, let alone for a huge global theater.

Easy
Take off from Kadena Fly North West at 33k for 15min, pause the sim for an hour or so,sit still, Dump fuel, refuel, pause the sim again for a hour or so, dump fuel, refuel. Rinse and repeat until you need to take a dump, sit there, now you will need to rinse, drink lots of fluids. Fall out of chair, refuel, put the sim back in pause. Sit still some more, read a book, dump fuel , refuel, pause the sim. Ignor the alarm clock, don’t go to work, dump fuel, refuel, pause the sim.dont answer the phone……

Sounds like the one time I a 748 from Panama City to LHR in FSX, real time. Not doing that again…

A Global Theatre: Falcon BMS simplify, unify the standards of terrain textures, objects, etc … would give more flexibility in creating campaigns. And would unite the efforts of all the designers of theaters in a single common project.
It’s nice to dream about it. But taking things as they are, and realistically with the possibility that we TODAY Falcon BMS offers we must consider the limitations of the engine and raise Falcon, from my point of view, possibilists options.

Very important. Even in the unlikely event that the working tools were adapted to create a global field and was fully operational; the distortion of the projection is too important to give good result.
My test Global Theater:
Dem2Terrain can create bigs L2
But into Falcon BMS World the terrain are great distortion (Terrain View)
But:
PMC Editing Wiki: Theater Size:And here is link for 370kb image of in-game-campaign screenshot (merged) of the whole theater area. There was over 18000 objectives on that campaign, when I flew one mission OCA strike I detected nothing out of the ordinary. FPS was just the same as when flying 64 segment theater:
A collection of 256 sections theaters worldwide covering perhaps it would be feasible with current tools?
E.G:Sniff :?

You will need a new terrain engine to achieve that (my best option would possibly be Outerra). But there are tons of other smaller details that should be also addressed to have a working game, models, objectives, fps etc… Totally huge project and very difficult project for a free -time project.

And what would it offer? The possibility for ferry flights from one hot spot to another? How realistic is that?
If one is willing to spend that many hours on BMS stuff, there are probably lots of other high-priority subjects which deserve attention afaik.
