Because I’m reading the manuals since 1998, and I know how to read across them.
A newbie might be confused if he reads the 1rst sweep, following step by step,
rotating the knobs to set backup radio frequency, to get the result as shown
in the pictures of the manual, but will fail to see any numbers as long as there is no power.Oliver has already pointed out it is not an error, it’s by design.
So for me personally it’s fine.LS
With all respect to the authors of the manual and heartfelt thanks for their hard work - I have to side with LS on this one.
If one is a newbie like me following the training manual, it is a bit confusing at first to be instructed to tune the radio (when the frequency digits are not displayed), push buttons on the UFC and look for output on the DED, when there is no power applied and thus nothing displayed on the DED as the illustrations show. Here are the relevant instructions. For context, the main power switch at this point is off. It gets turned to “batt” at the start of the next sweep.
I read a few steps ahead, realized it was just an error in the manual, and continued on without incident.
However, there’s no question in my mind that it is an error in the manual. Please don’t take this as a complaint. I’m just trying to help 4.33 be all it can be.
I’m one of those guys who push all the buttons and do all the checks whether the check is required to get the jet in the air or not.
I think it’s a reasonable compromise to designate non essential steps as “eye candy” or “not required in 4.33” or something like that.Great work guys. I thank you for it.

When reading the HARM training mission guide I didn’t find an explanation for the shortcut PET which is mentioned on Page 107.
after searching the internet I found that this means “preemtive targeting” - maybe this could be added to the guide since all the other shortcuts are explained.Edit RD: added in next version

Ok let me start by saying, I still consider myself a noob, but I think there is an error in the training manual under the TFR tutorial. When performing checks the manual says to bank past 60 degrees for longer than 2 seconds and confirm a yellow TFR limit box appears in the mfds. This doesn’t start happening until I hold a bank angle closer to 90 degrees. I apologise if I have misunderstood.

If that were something like “when the switch is in the mnl position you can set…” Or some other indication that you cant do what it syas you can do “now” until the power is on.
And to echo the other comments, these are great manuals and essential for a sim this complex. Big thanks to Red Dog for authoring!

TR433_11_LGB. Well, despite I’ve had :rtfm: I still having problem with SPI. Following the procedure: TMS Down, then CZ then WIDE on TGP as SOI don’t help me to place 4/4 on target. Tried to CZ even on FCR and HSD before start the target aquisition routine, don’t do the job. Least but not last I can’t be able to MissleStep a different station point in this mission. Any ideas?
Thanks -
p137 line23: attack azimuth -> impact azimuth ; because of JDAM i think the impact azimuth is right.
Thanks,

Is there already an estimate as to when the training manual will be completed?
-
why, did you already master it all?
3-4 weeks is the answer you’ll get

No I didn’t, I was just curious

What caught my eye (finally) was the instruction on manually setting the UHF radio frequency during the first sweep.
How can you do this without any power (not even battery power) applied to the systems?
-
Point 1 of the Before engine start is Main PWR switch to BATT
Point 6 of the Before engine start is communications all set to assigned UHF backupSo by the time you set the BUP UHF radio, your aircraft battery is ON and it works
So i don’t see any error in there -

Yep you’re right. A step is missing in the left console steps
Thanks -

ThanksNow I’m really confused as I pointed to the same “issue” as SLangner
in the first post.Cheers,

Hello to everyone,
I’m new to Falcon BMS, and still trying to start my F16 from a cold&dark status. I’m following step by step the training manual (TE mission 1, ramp start), but none of my avionics starts. For instance, when I get to step 1.1.4 (page 11 in the manual), the DED is supposed to be on, but mine is completely dark. Of course I turned the battery on (first on BATT, then on MAIN PWR), and, even if not mentioned at this point of the manual, I also tried to switch on all the “avionics power” buttons on the right panel, such as the UFC power, etc…. Other electrical parts are on (i.e., alarms, battery light, etc…) are fine.
So, in other word, some parts of my F16 seem to be powered, but the entire central console stays dark.
Do I have perhaps to wait longer? Or is there some button that I haven’t found?
Thanks for any help
Bob
p.s.: apologies if this is the wrong forum… I thought it was the most appropriate but please suggest me if I should post it somewhere else -
Ah, that’s poor phrasing on the manual, apparently. The DED should not be on at this point - but if it were and you were still in BACKUP, the image in 1.1.4 is what you would saw when entering COM1.
You power on the UFC (and thus the DED) after starting up the engine, at 1.2.3. There is a slight delay in between you pressing the switch and the DED screen going online.

it is already fixed in the next version indeed.
