I get your question, no sarcasm taken :), but what number exactly you looking for? If I take the model with the (unoptimized) landing gear and all weapons we’re talking 65k Blender tris.
That said, I built this from scratch primarily for BMS. Thing is I didn’t compromise on any of the movable surfaces so they are all present at the moment. Also they’re all minimally modeled meaning it looks close to flawless in render at the minimum necessary geometric complexity if you know what I’m saying. Can 5-10k tris be shed? Sure. Get it down to 30k? Probably that would be 2 steps back at this point :).

Like I said, I’ll optimize and will be able to create a LOD0/1 model with 30k tris but cannot say which area will have to ‘suffer’ for that yet.
If I can do 30k including landing gear and all movable surfaces without drastically changing the appearance I will demand a virtual efficiency trophy……j/k.
I know that table and the req but after all this time getting it right kind of turned into an obsession and surpassed staying within the limitation.

Basic tri count for a frontline aircraft is 30k everything included.
That being said, this is BMS team’s spec… For the community, you can do like you want!

Thanks man. I must say I am intrigued by the challenge of getting this model with this functionality (60+ DOFs) and this visual appereance within/below the official limit. I’ll see where we land after I’m done with the surfaces…

weapons, fuel tanks and targeting pods don’t count (need to be removed from the ACs 3D model anyway), as they’re separated items in BMS database.

One of our famous 3D artist and friend do not like the F-14 … and have no wishes to make it and prefers to focus on chicken and ground support vehicles … ( ) …
One famous FM coder we know likes the F-14 very much. So I wonder … If you manage to stay within BMS spec and IF you have the idea to offer your model for stock database integration like Dema and Arty did … who knows what a famous FM coder would like to do if he has such a beautiful F-14 in his Dev install! … (?)I am just thinking loud here.

… that said … in case of … nothing would prevent you to release also in a separated mod totally out of spec with even more details for ppl able to sustain more details with their powerful rig!

Spoiler limits now lowere to -2 degrees as per real life documentation. HUD glass now with green tint as per RL pics of F-14Ds. All weapon pylons have been modeled for LANTIRN, AIM-54C, AIM-7, AIM-9 and all kinds of guided and dumb bombs. Wing root area fixed on wing and glove. All object origins set to correct position also for the landing gear. Wings now able to go into oversweep without geometry protruding through the glove vane:

This bird is going into the sim for testing asap. Tazz will provide me with some high res pics which I’ll use to photo match and iron out any remaining details/proportionality issues. The exhaust nozzles will be arranged in an array and rigged to a central point so they can open and close as intended, can then be rigged via one single rotation DOF. The only part on the wing not yet made movable are the two eyebrow doors on top of the main and aux flaps.

Vertical stabilizer AC and positioning lights need to be separated, wing AC and positioning lights will be added, gunport and nozzle need to be aligned into front fuselage and some finishing touches on the landing gear needs to be done.
**I will absolutely need assistance on the rigging of all the moving parts in 3Ds and material setting and assignment for a first test run in the editor and then BMS.
I’m still unclear as to how to fix the inflatable glove wing bag issue. In RL it in-/deflates depending on wing sweep. If not implemented part of the wing will ‘disappear’ into the airbag. If I lower the bag the geometry gets messed up. If anyone has any input please let me know.**

Wings are slightly too far outside on that shot, haven’t found the correct pivot point for the wing yet. Fuel dump valve and beavertail antenna seem to have a material that is off. And no, I haven’t forgotten about the refueling probe :).

Haha, thanks man yeah will always keep the full high poly one and of course also release that BUT right now I need to get it into the editor and the sim to start testing that will be the next big hurdle much more challenging for me than reducing geometry.

That’s already considered during modeling. All pylons and periphery are at or below 2k.
