My wishlist : having the ability to add your own squadron patch / pilot picture and sharing it when multiplayer connected
btw : i canāt find the post where we could ask to add these patch picture for the next release (if there were any ?)
@Snake122 I also have my own home-cockpit, and access to an old trainee shell, so i have different point of references actually.
To answer you (and once again, thatās my VERY 2 cents, from my subjective point of view).
A. how do you feel about the pilot legs in VR?
A little thick but nothing shocking.
It is especially that the legs are very āstraightā, but thatās because itās a dummy model.
There is a āwooden logā effect
B. RL size of the MFDs?
They look a little smaller to me in VR.
You can compare with Thrustmaster MFDs IRL.
C. RL closeness of the ICP?
Thatās pretty it. Place your left arm 45Ā° down, 45Ā° to the left , then bend your arm at 100Ā°, and you got your ICP under your fingers.
Just like you are touching the top of your steering wheel in car.
D. RL width of the HUD?
Like the MFDs, a bit smaller. Maybe more distant parts seems smaller in VR than IRL.
I presume these impression are highly correlated with the FOV of course.
Personally, i donāt feel squeezed in a F16 cockpit. Actually, i feel like iām high, as the seat cushion is really strong and the console are at the same height than my butt.
Iām a glider pilot myself, and i feel way more squeezed in a glider than F16 cockpit.
Donāt forget that the most part of your top body is āoutā of the cockpit frame.
To compare, in a glider, the canopy frame comes up almost at my shoulder.
Also, there is a lot of space in F16 compare to other aircraft cockpit (like Mirage).
@Fish44 said in VR display on flat monitor settings?:
Iāve been tweaking settings for DCS to try and get smooth experience, and with a combination of DCS settings and reducing my render rate to 72Hz, Iāve finally got buttery smooth without motion smoothing (which is pretty crap for dogfighting). I now leave the headset at 72Hz in BMS also, and donāt notice any difference, but smoother at airbases etc, where I was getting less than 90FPS. 72Hz might be worth a try for you, and others, struggling with FPS and Pico 4.,
Was wondering the same. I started DCS after making my BMS VR headset config, and DCS is not longer playable haha.
Iāll try to be back on 70hz, i think that will be good also.
Maybe we can move this topic to Pico4 section finally
my two cents ^^
Iām 1m70
Hello !
I tried to improve things without touching any falcon_bms.cfg line or usb tethering settings.
Just using the āvanilla settingsā and keep things simple and stupid.
I plug my headset with a GOOD usb cable
(no USB Tetheringā¦ Iām just connecting into Streaming Assistant wired. I donāt even understand the utility of tethering and canāt find the option anyway).
I set 90hz into the headset settings menu.
I update Streaming Assistant on the computer, and i set display mode to āHDā or āULTRAā, and 90hz (donāt really see the difference between these two actually).
Now, Falcon looks just fine, iām able to read my instrument into the cockpit
Running on a 3070ti, Iāve got 70 fps anyway and nothing is set ācarrefullyā for now.
I should be able to improve FPS, having a look at graphics option, āfine tuneā my graphics options, active the line āset g_bVRNoPresent 1 // set to 1 to disable companionā, this kind of things.
Works just fine now, i can finally read my MFDs/ded and the cockpit is even more impressive !
Hello Fish ! Thanks for your answer !
Your pit looks fab. Iād say its a hard choice to leave that for VR!
-> Thanks a lot ! But why should i choose? Actually, having the VR into my cockpit, sit in the right position, having the real controls and be able to activate the switches, ICP, MFDs by hand at the correct location is REALLY great I must say (I just must be carefull for the ICP dobber )
I donāt use Virtual Desktop and cannot buy it (the headset is shared actually, not mine)ā¦
For the problem of resolution into the cockpit, i could solve it !
I posted my solution on the Pico4 topic : https://forum.falcon-bms.com/topic/24097/pico-4-experience-and-settings/62
Iām running on 5600x/3070ti/16gb 3200mhz, I just set 90hz for the headset, and with the settings Ultra, iāve got 70fps. I should be able to improve that.
For VR Companion, maybe thatās not the right term. I just wanted to describe the VR display that display on your flat monitor.
I tried to active the option āset g_bVRNoPresent 1 // set to 1 to disable companionā, iāve got the loading screen of falcon locked on several monitors. when iām flying. Thatās not great for me if i want to keep discord, OBS, ā¦ on these monitors. Iāll try to make some photographs/screenshot to show.
Beeing able to move it would be really great already.
Resize it would be awesome.
Hi guys !
Iāve got the Pico4.
I just need to sets some things so the cockpit displays (ded, MFDs) could be finaly readable and useable for important squadron flights.
BUT, iāve got an other problem that could be not specific to the Pico4.
Long story short, additionnal to my VR Headseat, Iām running on triple screen monitor also (3xfullHD) and have other screens for my cockpit :
Here is my problem : The VR companion (VR display export on the main monitor) is shown on the left side of my triple screen. As the resolution is above FullHD, it goes lower than the monitor itself. In windows, my left MFDs is placed just there, so a part of the VR Companion is displayed on the MFDs also.
I assume that this could take some useless ressources from my computer to āsplitā the VR companion onto 2 different screen, especially if these 2 monitors are not on the same GPU (3070ti for the tripple screen, and USB or 1050ti for the MFDs).
Also, if someone tries the VR headset in my pit, i cannot really check what he sees has i can only see half of the VR display. Same if i want to live-stream my screen within OBS Studio.
Is there any settings available for this VR Companion, for example, being able to :
Here is the only setting i found on this forum or BMS Manual.
set g_bVRNoPresent 1 // set to 1 to disable companion
Thanks a lot !
Hi There
Something is missing on the tail of the Belgian MLUā¦
So, I let the boar streamer i made for the modders community
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1ObI9Z6hqOrlwauxRPBNRZopLZ8DHrrWC?usp=drive_link
I let also some Gimp files, so youāll have all the layers i used (thanks for Jan Has, ā¦).
So you could use some āsmudgeā
Cheers !
I really hope this little detail would be implemented into the next version
Yep, thatās because iām not in Full HD and new UI attempt to display at FullHD Resolution. So need to make a choiceā¦ New UI but not sure to see everything (like in the last picture) or Old Uiā¦
As you said, the best would be that the resolution of UI takes the resolution the screen offer OR user wants.
But iām assuming itās even more work, cause you need to make an UI for each resolutionā¦ ?
@linknet Yes, something like that could be great also !
Just for you to know
If you check the box in the new launcher for Dogfight On-Off-On, launch BMS, the button sets would need to stay activated, like continuous DX impulse.
Otherwise, the dogfight cancel will be called directly, so if you push āDā just one time, the dogfight overridemode will be activated for less than 1 second, and return to NAV/AA/AG previous mode.
Thatās a normal behavior, and thatās the purpose of this option.
BUT.
If then, you check the āoverride new launcherā box (because you are a Pitbuilder that doesnāt want to use the new launcher settings, this Dogfight behavior option stays enable.
Youāll need to uncheck the On-Off-On option in the new launcher, then launch Falcon.
Then quit Falcon
Uncheck the 2 boxes (dogfight option and override new launcher), then launch Falcon to save the default behavior of the dogfight.
Then, you could check again the Override New Launcher option.
Is there anyway to activate these options kind for other callback and DX ?
(for example On/Off switches that send DX for Alt Gear Pull / Alt Gear Reset, or Drift Co button for ICP ?)
Thanks !
So, i finally managed to get the āscaleā option works.
Here si the line to add :
set g_nScaleUIMode 0
here is the result :
So the UI is too large and too high, thatās normal because i use 1680x1050 resolution screensā¦
So i can have the upper part OR the bottom parts of the UI but not both ^^ā
I think with my configuration, i need to sets the āold scaleā option, AND the old UIā¦ no choice.
set g_nScaleUIMode 0
set g_nInternalUIResolutionMode 0
Hope it helped other pilots with triple screen anyway.
Solved
Hi There !
Iām searching for 3 days on forum and manual a solution to my problem, nothing found thus far.
So iām working with tripple screens with Nvidia Surround. So these monitors are considered as just one screen (5040x1050) in Windows settings and BMS.
In 3D, no problem since 432. Work really nice
i just lost my mouse with 437, and added this line : set g_sPriorityFixes āall-PFIX_4K_TEXT_AND_CURSOR_USER_DEFINE_AND_APPLY_DPIā
With 436, i just sets Falcon windowed, position the UI on my right screen, then sets it again in borderless, then the UI was āgluedā on my right screen. That was very convenient to keep an eye on discord/OBS/briefing paper/WDP on my left screen and center screen.
But with 437, thatās not the same cup of tea anymoreā¦
The UI window take the 3 screen (left and right are black).
I tried to sets it to windowed (but playing 3D windowed, NO THANKS anyway), same thing. I can move the window, a then when i sets it again to borderless, the UI donāt save the position and go back to take all the display. Anyway, i still got one screen in black window on it.
Also, i cannot re-size the windowā¦
I tried to sets the old UI : same result.
"set g_nInternalUIResolutionMode 0 "
0 = XGA
Saw this in BMS User Manual (page 26) and the changelog says more :
āā"- Added a new UI scaling option: g_nScaleUIMode
But i donāt get how it work exactly. I tried some thingsā¦ (and see, i RTFM and more alreadyā¦)
So here is my question : is there anyway to scale the UI properly and sets position value to it (borderless mode) ?
Actually, the resolution of each screen are 1680x1050 (22"), but would have the same problem with Full HD resolution, isnāt it ? please, donāt say that i need to buy 3 new scree ;')
Thanks a lot.
@chihirobelmo said in Falcon BMS Launcher Message Box:
Fixed in the next version.
I think the pop-up NEEDS to appear, but only when check/uncheck (to avoid miss-click!!).
On top of that, if you keep the pop-up with the box ādonāt display anymoreā when launching BMS, that could work also.
That would be the best solution at my opinion , Iām really scare of a miss-click, so having an warning if so, that would be great!
If we could also have a more visible upper-right options (size, close window), that would be great ^^ā
Thanks a lot chihirobelmo !
If you could have a checkbox to disable the pop-up while launching BMS from the new launcher when the āoverrideā option is checked, that would be VERY appreciable
The best would be to have the possibility to upload other keystroke (such as BMS_BLANK), or at least, to be able to SAVE it with an other name.
Whithout these options, iām forced to use the old launcher or the be VERY annoyed be the pop-up and sound when iām launching falcon.
Also, if i miss-click and de-check the overide option, i will be forced to reconfigure all my pitā¦ Really Frustrating.
@amadeus75 said in HMCS knob at ramp:
Might be worth discussing if there should be a config checkbox if you want to choose a combined behavior or separate callbacks.
The dreaaaaaam for simple-cockpit maker
But making these checkbox for ALL the callbacks seems a pharaonic workout.
@amadeus75 said in HMCS knob at ramp:
But for the time being, I am rather satisfied with a workaround.
Yes, thatās just for ONE knob one DX shortcut on my stick is not a big deal
@fullnegi BMS, the only forums where you can argue with -a very simple click- seriously
@amadeus75 Thatās the case for the Hud Sym, but i think thatās the only oneā¦
I think this behavior is for the real-cockpit builder. Itās more simple to integrate a callback for the knob clicking, and then an axis for the knob. Thatās clever in my opinion. Thatās making the problem in a really simple and elegant solution.
And if you just have a āsimpleā knob, use your mouse for the first click then, thatās the same result and iām fine with it.
But itās really weird the radios, hmcs, sym have 3 differents behavior ! my (verry) 2 cents
@oakdesign Thanks for the tips ! That software seems to be really good to know !
@Amadeus75
I did had the mechanism of the real knob in my mind and knew this DMS ātrickā
As i understood thatās the same for Com1/com2/ils, int lightning, ded brightness, etc, etc, ā¦ also.
As in the 3D cockpit, you can also turn the radios On by clicking 1 time on the knob with your mouse, to start to turn it and simulate this āknob clickā. Even if you put an axis on it.
Thatās why i didnāt get why these knobs behave differently from the HMCS.
When you put an axis on it, why this āfirst clickā with the mouse is still working for others and not the hmcs ?? As i understand, Increase callback āāintegrateāā the On callback for radios and not hmcs ??
Oversight from the dev team? ^^ā
Maybe, that can happen, thatās not a big deal. Just needed to understand and sort it out.
Also, the HUD Sym donāt behave the same ! You donāt need this āclickā (callback or mouse) for turn it on, you can simply turn it on with your axisā¦ And i believe that you also have this click in the real one, isnāt it ?
This kind of knobs (click+axis) could be expensive and is a bit more complicate to integrate them in the pit. So as we had the DMS Down option, i though that just putting a simple axis for it would be enough in my cockpit and for my needs It is already when iām starting from taxi however.
I was used to set my CMS left (2nd layer) for turning on the HMCS and increase brightness, so iāll put that shortcut for the āhmcs onā and iāll keep you tuned
