It’s broken and they’re defensive; they guy who built it is gone. High res setups die or freeze, most of the player base is having some form of problem especially pit builders.
THERES A REASON THEY DONT WANT TO ANSWER.

from what i can gather about raptor tactics from public disclosure mostly Lockheed red flag bragging, the raptor doesn’t shoot BVR, uses decoy radar emissions to get the enemy cold on the nose, than uses a stalking like behavior to get in real close and shoot the gun directly at the canopy. This is how singletons have racked up 16 kill sorties in operational wargames,
there is an option somewhere called SLEW TO ENABLE CURSOR, i thought, because my cursor unlocks when I slew my analog slew. Also, Cursor enable also toggles A/G pre plan, TOO, and other modes like BORE and VIS for ground ordinance.
multi core snake oil is snake oil. between 4 and 8 is the ticket. I won’t elaborate here as It would undoubtedly ruffle some wallets and feathers in hindsight, but you can research software controllers and hardware controllers, hardware limitations due to software, and the failure of progress in software to stay on the bleeding edge with hardware.
here are some basic tenets;
base clock and turbo on the front end is most important
your biggest point of research should be your motherboards chipset family and the potentiality of future proofing.
DDR5 is in the pipe, and may not be a new form factor, in fact the 3 different demos shown to the public that were not defense related were 288 pin just like the ddr4.
you always want to under volt your Power supply. you want at least 100W headroom at all times, so you never go max load. I build systems for average joes around a max of 475 and slap an 800w PSU in the thing. My machines never come back. Understand circuitry and yield load over time.
If you are going to buy a dedicated graphics card, you do not need a CPU chip with onboard graphics, in fact, more pins devoted to something else is much more favorable. I like the intel F family for this reason specifically.
anything from the mid to top tier range of the 5 7 or 9, and even most of the 3, will run BMS like a delight.
Unlike the pillars of shittalk i just built about software engineers being lazy rats for the most part, BMS is well optimized right up to about four cores. It’s well optimized in general. When you have well built software your hardware always performs, and BMS will perform well under most of the modern cpus, 3,5,7, and 9. you could probably even slap a dual core 3.9ghz intel chip in that and not only be fine, but it might eclipse some of the numbers higher up because windows performs very well with dual core cpus.
This is an interesting read. this says more about human nature and consumerism than it does about any flight sim. The only criticism in my mind that truly holds up on falcon topically, are graphics, which is a note of vanity, again- vanity applied to a video game, or lack of it- it’s only when we are challenged we get philosophical or rhetorical, it is only when we need to overlook hypocrisy or dissonance we engage philosophy, or rhetoric, in law, in war, in life.
they deserved to die
he had it coming
etc etc etc
back to the real criticisms. Anything this old, aged this well is not old, it’s vintage. But I am one man. The real criticism that sticks, in my view, is the amount of attention the viper has gotten in contrast to the enemy mud and air. I think the AI , the pilot skill and strategy of the AI both in 2d and 3d is lackadaisical. It could be that I’ve been flying it since the late 90’s and I am proficient, but it is not something I would point out earnestly, just something I hear and kinda went “yeah I can see that”
the f16 is like a super fighter when flown against the AI by a veteran bms flier. you’ll lob pinpoint accurate missiles with no failure rates at four flights which will always track perfectly from 35 miles out. That is not accurate, and it creates somewhat of a pocket.
This all stirred back into my recollection upon reading. I don’t feel that way, I think in the endgame you should be dominant, But facts commonly eclipse feelings.
the most important thing to remember is that flight is a balance of forces, push and pull, demand and return, input and correction.
you need a loose grip, on a tight ship, if that makes sense.
So should beginners try to complete training mission 5, Air to Air refuel, or should we wait for a fix for the bug that causes tankers to turn too much? Can training mission 5 be done?
“thereisnotime”, thank you for your help, but I had trouble finding information about those skills: tick the tac, rock the baby, and dip and don’t. Searching under: Aviation tick the tac, got me all kinds of stories about those tic tac shaped UFO’s that our pilots have witnessed! Rock the baby got me stories about how to keep babies calm on airplanes. Dip and don’t got me articles on rules for chewing tobacco on airplanes. Lol! I can kind of guess what those maneuvers are. I will practice keeping level and adjusting speed.
phrases to describe dealing with unwanted delta in different aspects at close range, like I said, real knowledge for various ways avoids digital and lives between leather and in dusty shelving.
Rock the baby, is similar to “knocking down” on a too fast approach, to deal with unwanted climb from increased throttle.you dip the wings alternatively in minute amounts, which will bleed that energy out, after you rock the baby you’ll need to
dip, or don’t
which is counter acting that wiggle out with a bit of throttle, or a bit of DONT throttle, which may need a bit of
tick the tac
which is opposite rudder or elevator and keeping the Tick “fpm” on the “tacK” zero line, but to do that you might need to
slide or slip
which is the same thing in the z axis, using the rudder.
if youre fighting a basket or a boom or lights, you’re fighting the modernity of training just as much. same with watching youtube. the f16 is a glove, she wants to listen, learn to speak to her in the language she knows, and shell always listen.
It is my understanding that there is a bug that causes the tankers to turn too much, and as it is, air to air refueling is one of the hardest things for beginners to learn, even without the bug.
Is it recommended for a beginner to try to complete training mission 5, Air to Air refuel?
Can training mission 5 be completed by veterans even with the bug?
I did try to refuel for about 15 or 20 minutes, not sure if I could have pulled it off even without the tanker turning often, but I wanted to at least try. For now, I’m going to move on to training mission 6, ILS in bad weather, but I was wondering if I should even come back to mission 5 before there is a patch.
the skills you need to learn, like the tick the tac, rock the baby, and dip and don’t are unknown to non tac pilots, and the phraseology changes depending on who you talk to. I was trained by the danish air force, and I’m translating what I learned into the best english version. These are all based on hud sight pictures between the aircraft VI and the FPM and the hud center line. they are all variants of the same idea. people say you need to learn to fly formation, true, but more importantly you need to learn to fly perfectly level by hand.
The only way to do that is to learn those techniques. I would suggest you ask around, read aerial surveys from nato, and consume as much as you can, or ask a pilot.
very briefly, the FPM and the hud centerline 0horz can be used to maintain level flight. this is all technique, and as a sim pilot, and a newer player or a younger person you will be miss-educated and using gaming techniques if you rely on youtube or even some of the in software training provided across all sim software. Learning to dip and to don’t, to rock out the baby, and to slide is short hand brevity for many tight formation variants applied to refuel flight, and all this comes from mastery of old school ifr adis that look like ball globes or the hud tape.
if youre an animal, like some of the old phantom pilots they would use their hsi.
to begin, trim on speed for a refuel around 303ias just to practice by yourself and see if you can align the fpm perfectly with the hud zero line and now without exceeding a one degree offset of the wing tips of the fpm over the zero line, practice all your ranges of glide turns, offset your speed +10 and -10. practice getting back to the null point.
its all technique, but without proper foundations youll just be copying bad ones.
sometimes DP will not support audio based on system architecture mainly hardware configs and oddball displays- a good way to absolutely cover all bases in 99.999999 percent of situations is to use a high end display port out adapter to hdmi female from your gpu and just use an hdmi cable to any modern display monitor or tv. most of the time a good adapter and cable will even bypass the oversample on most televisions that do it.
A friend of mine used his 50" plasma TV for a time as a desktop monitor.
Its resolution was 1080. At 4ft away 1 pixel is so easy to see. No need for zoom.
I have two rigs, one is a wrapped projection that goes from abut 270 to 90, the other is a 57 inch samsung display i bought from the visuals team at target for 100 dollars- they are both GAME CHANGERS.
@A.S:
Old, always recurring topic… bottom line… it depends in what ways one is willing (or able in fact) to build up SA… Some do it the proper way, using all data available - instruments, coms, data and mind (yes mind as in imagination) as in real, others use game-features and “workaround” shortcuts… Make it “easy”… because “others might do it too” etc. The “reasoning” to justify these things is wild open. That way of thinking however - lying to oneself (in my personal view) is optional and so far i have not seen such “shortcuts” (Zoom external view in our example) - being superior, or giving unfair advantages to those who rock without “game tools”. It is laughable, if people model TGP pods… and users “stalker TV ZOOM spot” ground-units instead as Polaris pointed.
whatever…each his own… there is nothing to proof to others… only the guy in the mirror must be proud of you we know that saying “BS yourself, but not me”
I agree, you should have a radial compass visualized always- when I was trained to fly combat sims my instructor made me draw a picture simply from BRA and bulls calls. SA should be your biggest tool, even if you can’t tally with a good BRA or SA you can point the radar in vert scan quick as a lick.
parity with the real world should not be the goal, inertial sense does most of that, and that cannot be implemented in seatback simulation at home, only very rudimentary in motion controlled environment simulators. software and hardware varies greatly at home, any FOV restrictions will result in your face being planted in the HUD and no peripheral vision, a stylistic choice for game purposes that would in my opine be a faceplant. the largest drawback of displays and flight sims is peripheral, fov is the combat to this, or bevels in your view and multi display arrays, or wrapped projector displays. None of which has the ease of an fov slider or control. Zoom in flight sims is a necessary evil, being able to tally and scale your vision is just another skill set to learn and master.
shooting mavs from any platfrom greater than like 2 or 3 miles is not only not SOP but highly unrealistic. Mavs suck, eat ground clutter and commonly go dumb. they have a high failure rate on and off the wing. Why they are still in service is their modular nature- their inconsistency has led to the push to standardize all the guidance into a laser form factor, but even the F and the J and the L2 versions are all experiencing bullshit problems, mostly with the seeker, as per the norm. Boresighting is an ancien regime though ill refrain from beating the horse, it’s obviously someone’s precious. firing mavs at 8 miles is unique to BMS " the game"
just spit balling but had a similar experience try aN MFD swap, worked for me (blk 40). ANTENNA, SWEEP, and cursor was stuck, radar was in NORM, RF hot.
that everything turns into a pissing match surrounding certain individuals is more to do with the impetus and honor of the community, honesty, and humility. Flight sim communities in general attract some toxic people, the best thing you can do is avoid engaging them. Unfortunately, because of the lack of options many of us are captive to these showings and cliques of immaturity and dishonesty. C’est la vie, it is part of the human condition. Laugh it off, fly the jet, crack a smile.
is there a HOTAS function for area mode?
when it comes to software, if you can, anytime you make a hardware change you should just do it fresh. You’re right of course, about experience sharing and wisdom, but just coming from a “dont be paranoid you can fix anything you lose in five minutes plus no headache” angle , I have heard people worry about their hard drives, changing OS SSD or HDD, flipping out components, drivers etc etc etc.
you give windows the best opportunity of success when you do things fresh. in saying that, most times transfering a cfg file or a profile is very easy, as opposed to dealing with regedits, or some of the harry business that can pop up when swapping components hardware and drives.
seconded- no HTS with agm88s on wing produced same thing, it is weapon selection. Thank you all for helping, sorry I couldn’t provide video.
I think bringing the opposition aircraft up to snuff is important because the viper gets a lot of work- even if it’s just under the hood-making them more equivalent in sensors and ability to the comparative modernity of the vipers in the code would make it less like Man jet vs boy jet, IMHO.
i cannot screen capture with ease with my current set up, I might be able to post a picture or a series of pictures later, as that diamond behavior I described is actually visible without even taking off.
I thought maybe this was some new functionality of the HTS that was locking up the cursor seeing that it goes away when the HTS is not on the jet. I
ll see maybe I can just film my screen later.
