What's up with those rumors
-
Guys I think we can stop discussing about sense of speed. It was checked and seems like there is no problem with Falcon itself. Only problem is with the relatively undetailed world Falcon has since forever.
As for trees size, I hope in the future we could possibly improve the autogen so trees will randomly grow with different size/type at different areas assigned by some kind of data. It shouldn’t be a big problem actually and I would have started to look at it if I didn’t had so many things to finish with higher priority. Generating trees in general isn’t such a problem, as you can see in many sims, they all use the same bullshit billboard method, we can do as well (Our current autogen is also billboard but a bit more detailed). Modern geometry shaders can create millions of polys in the GPU from a list of single vertices.

Deejay, you still have a sense of speed at 10,000ft and I dont know about you, but I struggle to see my shadow up that high unless over featureless terrain.
I dont have any photos to share of 50ft, at that level Im 100% task saturated with flying the plane, no spare attention to take a photo.
Similarly, flying into the sun, at 500ft, you cant see your shadow, but you still have a sense of speed - the shadow is totally irrelevant to it!

AFAIK, we wasn’t speaking about a “sens of speed” issue at FL100. I rather thought we were speaking about low level v(?) But … never-mind … I-Hawk is right, we know that there is no issue except the ground texture resolution and ground details/object density. There is nothing to do about it yet … and anyway, it would be stupid to add fake artifacts to artificially boost that “sensation”.
Cheers!

I’ve been away ,
Is it true there is a rumor about a rumor ??
Is this even remotely possible ??
Are we speculating that it might be probable to know something more in a 2-4 week time frame. ??
Do I suspend my unbelief, time will tell.

Just because you’ve thought it right, you actually missed nothing, Shadow.
Rumors are boring only, facts are another matter. With best regards.

At low level, flying towards the sun, with the sun elevated at say around 60 to 70°… your shadow is under the nose. You cant see your shadow. You still have a sense of speed.

I just meant => realizing how fast you are traveling by seeing your shadow on the ground relative to other object (size) … of course, it works also without the shadow (one pools, two pools, three … whoah! … lots of pools here!)
Anyway.

My Shadow is always under my nose, and there is no speed in the house, let alone under my nose.
Or is it a rumor.

…I can’t even see my nose.

Maybe this is why Israel campaign hasn’t been updated for 4.34 yet. Because they’re working with the new terrain engine
-
Israeli theater for 4.34 is delayed due to the necessary DB conversion task to the new format and reintegration of all Israeli dedicated models. Not related to any kind of development, nor rumor.

Making for a higher resolution terrain would have all sort of interesting effects on tactics, too.
For example: higher resolution mesh means shorter and shorter engagement ranges. Aircraft need to be at a higher angle to the target to engage. Targets end up being hidden by the terrain more often.
What would be really cool is having tank units making effective use of terrain.
-
Agree, Blu3wolf.
Not to mention those naval units’ behavior, at this point… but it might be too much for Falcon purposes, perhaps.
Or not? Anyway it goes, I guess that the next update will be something to remember… this time too. With best regards.

Exactly. The higher resolution mesh is not only better looking thing but in many cases can have very strong impact on tactics.

BMS is not so far ….

…pretty sure most of this is actually on the California side - and that that’s the Kern River valley beneath him. You don’t actually cross over into Nevada until you get to where it’s mostly sand, toward the end of the vid. This is the same route that Star Wars Canyon is on, if you make the hard turn at the Jedi transition, across Death Valley.

I’ve actually flown this route in a trainer before. A lot…
-
Thank you for that video. I have hiked those mountains for many years and even got to see 2 F-16s go on either side of Indian head penny while I was climbing it. F-18’s train in that area regularly flying low like that and I never got to see what it looks like from the cockpit until now. Very cool. 6:00 to about 7:05. That 65 seconds takes about a day to hike.

The route is published -

If you have the right sim, you can fly it yourself…MS Flightsim is probably the best for it, or VRS, or X-Plane.

Id prefer GE flight sim I think…
