Worth it or wait?

With the issues of collimation and scaling, are there other issues specific to 4.37.0 and HP Reverb G2s?
With these identified issues, is it worth looking at transitioning to VR or would it be better to wait for 4.37.1 and onwards? As someone on the fence about the VR experience, the less faffing about, the better and would rather not dive in if it’s too much of a hassle. At the moment, I can sometimes get VR-sick due to the collimation/HUD issue.
Thanks!

@Atlas there’s 2 other issues. 1, Your view of BMS’ UI in VR for the G2 will be centered at the very top so you’ll have to look down to navigate. I just put the HMD on after I enter 3D. 2, you will have no stereo sound as Windows Mixed Reality forces on Windows Sonic which breaks BMS’ stereo output for some reason. You can use a set of stereo capable headphones instead of the G2s built in speakers pretty comfortably, tho.
None of the current VR problems stop me from enjoying the experience.

I run the Reverb G2 and I don’t have this issue. I think its dependent on how you have Steam VR setup and if you have the floor level set correctly for seated position.

@Atlas I agree that these issues are minor and I still enjoy the sim immensely with VR.

@Atlas
First I want to give a big thanks to the devs. For a first release of BMS for VR its quite amazing the work they have done, and i don’t underestimate the hours they must have worked on this in the background. For me the steamVR and WMR is more problematic than OpenXR, and I spend too much time getting sound sorted and having mouse visible, and getting tracking to stop blanking. But none of its the fault of the BMS VR implementation.
For non VR there’s still the issues with getting helios on the tablet, and opentrack going, so there’s always stuff which can go wrong in VR or 2d/3d. (tracking is not so good on my old reverb VR-1000)
While its amazing to experience first time in any flight sim, 90fps in VR with everything passing smoothly low level, I plan to reserve it for some SP non campaign play and personal training missions for the moment.
I will still revert to the non VR implementation for my MP sessions, until the VR dance gets more streamlined.
My 0.02$

@SOBO-87 this is curious because every other UI for me is centered while BMS is low. So, if you’re standing in the Steam VR home, your center of view is right in the middle of the floating BMS UI and your virtual ground is where your feet are? Or is your virtual floor at the same level as your waist? I can recenter my position so that the UI is centered, but then I feel like I’m sitting on the ground and all of my other UI elements are too high.
-
@GhastlyTT I’m not standing in VR home. I’m sitting. As I sit in my simpit when I fly BMS. Inside WMR, before coming to steam VR I reset the floor height to match my seated height. And in steam VR home I’m also sitting height. This means I’m pretty much central when it comes to the BMS UI window. At least for me!

It is also curious for me as every other 3 HMDs BMS UI displays center to the default view but only G2 shows it below…with same PC.

@Atlas , if you already own a VR headset absolutely pop in and check it out! Just be sure to set your HOTAS up with a VR recenter button (it’s SIM: VR Camera Rotation Reset in keymapping) and VR Zoom. It’s not perfect but certainly useable. If you suffer from “VR (motion) sickness” your best bet is to spend as much time in VR as possible until you feel the slightest issue, then get out for a while (or a day). Rinse and repeat, you will build up a tolerance eventually.

@GhastlyTT I don’t have the UI issue, it’s front-and-centre for me. However, I’ve not been paying attention to sound; the collimation issue was just too glaring for me.
@spotdott I would not say the collimation issue is minor. Having said that, I’m not saying that what the devs have done is not impressive, it is very, very impressive. I look forward to having the collimation issue sorted; I’ll be honest and say I didn’t think the cockpit scaling was very noticeable but maybe I was just too distracted by the collimation issue.
@Fish44 I was looking forward to having my socks knocked right off by BMS’ implementation of VR. At the moment, I’ll have to wait for U1, I guess. Fabulous work by the devs nonetheless and can’t wait to see what comes next.
@Icer I do have the G2 connected to a 3080 and have done a few AAR exercises in VR and it is amazing. I just have to not-look at the HUD

Any vision issues? I use readers adn the VROptician lenses made a big difference for me…
-
@Icer I wear glasses/contact lenses but corrected vision is 30/20 or whatever it is that’s better than 20/20. I don’t have the collimation issue with DCS AFAIK.

Not sure if you fixed this, but I had to fix this via the windows MR floor height adjustment, not SteamVR.
One key thing he doesn’t talk about in this video is putting one controller on the floor so you can bring the VR floor exactly to the controller on the real floor level. -
@GhastlyTT I think I fixed the spatial sound issue. You can disable Windows Sonic but not in the Spatial Sound section of the device. You have to click Advanced under Enhance Audio and then disable Spatial Sound from in there otherwise, WMR just keeps enabling Windows Sonic.
