What to do after training missions?
-
Hey!
I have gone through the (excellent) training missions and have a good understanding of all the different systems. Of course, I still need experience in pretty much all areas, I’m now reading through the docs, but would like to also fly meanwhile, practicing what I’ve learned so far.
What should I spend my time on? I tried starting a Dynamic Campaign, but that still felt a bit scary and overwhelming. Maybe just going through training again?
I’ve joined a group that has a nice training program, unfortunately they don’t seem to be that active (in my timezone at least)

Go ahead and start a campaign, jump into the cold water and have fun.
Start by flying BARCAP missions that are over BLUE area.
Try to learn how to communicate with package members & AWACS. Get familiar with airctaft system and configuration.Gradually, after u get the experience, turn to AG missions, there will be lots of action in this missions.

Fly a KTO stock campaign, dude.
I remember the EXACT, EXACT same feeling as you.
SP1, I believe it was. Finally just flying a campaign was the best thing I ever did, and only THEN did I actually contextually process what I had LEARNT during Trn missions.
Do it, man. Jump in. Do some A-G, turn and burn often and play it safe while you gain confidence.

Thank you both! I guess I will jump in a campaign!

@Aragorn I also still remember, making it through the Trainings and thinking “ok I got this”…
…then, first moment in a campaign, I was like a day-one newb again… a fish out of water with no clue what I was doing. Awacs telling me “Jackal11, you are shooter” and I’m like oh s–t I was supposed to be paying attn to what they were saying?! lol

@sepruda - more Training…but in scenarios that you set up under Dogfight. Start with guns only, 1 V 1 and/or 1 v 2 at various starting distances, against various type bogeys, and using various type of weapons. You can also try going off-script on some of the TEs - like placing yourself as Dash-2 and flying formation and landing on the short runway on RTB…or learning to sort the bogeys and following the bomber home…and then straffing the snot out of the enemy airfield - see just how may things you can set on fire using your gun!
Once you build and understand how to make decisions about how/which weapons to employ (and when) THEN try a Campaign.

My favorite off-script variations for Training TEs.
TR6 ILS Weather
They nerfed this in 4.37 by changing the wind direction to line up with the destination runway… instead, fly about 60 miles SW to Sacheon, which is perpendicular to the wind direction, to practice crosswind ILS landing.Hard mode: first land and do a hotpit refuel at Daegu, then takeoff again… if you can land heavy at Sacheon and stop in time, in such horrible conditions, it’s “achievement unlocked”.
TR12 HARM
Ignore the SA-2’s and go hunting for the SA-4 battery, on the hilltop NW of the target area. Knockout the Long Track and Pat Hand radars, then try to get TGP capture on the launchers (they may be on the move, retreating). Make a few strafing runs… have a good flare program ready – they have SA-14 manpads and they’re angry. You may also have to dodge an SA-2 (terrain mask).TR13 Maverick
This one is setup for ramp-start which means you can modify your loadout… great for testing a variety of AG weapons in a low-stress, “uncontested airspace” environment. Also great for testing explosion and smoke effects impact on your CPU and GPU… lolTR15 IAM
Fly as wingman, and try to take out the SA-3 site guarding the target, with JDAMs. Get really high and fast and use the new jammer… or run in low and fast and loft a JDAM… use the clouds to help protect from manpads.Hard mode: don’t recon the radar ahead of time; try to get TGP capture through tiny breaks in the clouds.

Congrats you made it through!
If you wanna learn more, get into multiplayer to meet other people and fly/learn from them. Flying with humans will enhance your BMS experience for sure.
All other suggestions are great as well.

@sepruda I’d recommend the Desert Storm campaign. You only have dumb bombs, Mavericks and HARMs for A-G work and AIM-9’s for A-A. Which makes it feel like you’re mastering the basics before needing to add in LGB’s etc.
In the air you’ll be up against older Migs so you’ll have a upper hand and get some good dogfight practice.

This.
You learn faster with others and the immersion/fun level is way higher when flying with other humans. -
If you just want to fly single-player, as many do, jump into a KTO campaign. You can simply pick the missions you prefer (stay away from deep strikes, they are suicidal) or re-task existing missions like a 2-4 ship BarCap into a Strike, rearm you flight with A-G, and go take out an airfield! SO many options with BMS Campaign, it will take years just to see what it’s capable of (I still don’t know and I have had F4 since 1998…).

I think there are issues nowadays with retasking Barcaps (wingman AI and mission role).
Better: Stop time, delete a flight (ATO), Add Package for desired target in freed up timeframe.I would first go after enemy SAMs, then some near airbases (study OOB). And yes, Korea is rather demanding, could be fun to try Desert Storm first.
