Two flights a month would definitely be achievable for me. I’ll have to check this out.

How much time does one need to dedicate to participate in one of these?

RE: 4.33 Issues (Known or not)
Plane invisible when taxiing when in Satellite view - the shadow was there on the taxiway but the plane model was missing. I believe it was Kunsan airbase.
That’s not a bug, that’s the new stealth plane.

RE: Feedback BMS-Training.pdf
Because I’m reading the manuals since 1998, and I know how to read across them.
A newbie might be confused if he reads the 1rst sweep, following step by step,
rotating the knobs to set backup radio frequency, to get the result as shown
in the pictures of the manual, but will fail to see any numbers as long as there is no power.Oliver has already pointed out it is not an error, it’s by design.
So for me personally it’s fine.LS
With all respect to the authors of the manual and heartfelt thanks for their hard work - I have to side with LS on this one.
If one is a newbie like me following the training manual, it is a bit confusing at first to be instructed to tune the radio (when the frequency digits are not displayed), push buttons on the UFC and look for output on the DED, when there is no power applied and thus nothing displayed on the DED as the illustrations show. Here are the relevant instructions. For context, the main power switch at this point is off. It gets turned to “batt” at the start of the next sweep.
I read a few steps ahead, realized it was just an error in the manual, and continued on without incident.
However, there’s no question in my mind that it is an error in the manual. Please don’t take this as a complaint. I’m just trying to help 4.33 be all it can be.
I’m one of those guys who push all the buttons and do all the checks whether the check is required to get the jet in the air or not.
I think it’s a reasonable compromise to designate non essential steps as “eye candy” or “not required in 4.33” or something like that.Great work guys. I thank you for it.

RE: PFL Avionics Fail.
What fun, completed the ramp start.
Taxied, took off and flew a basic pattern……
Forgot to retract the gear and had to belly land.
Oh, well!Sounds quite a lot like my first attempt. Except I ended up with one gear left.
I’d have been better off to let all 3 blow off! -
RE: Radar Slew now requires shift?
I loaded my old 4.32 keystrokes file into 4.33 and good to go
I may be mistaken, but using the 4.32 file may not work for everyone.
Callbacks have changed and/or been removed in 4.33.I think it really depends on what callbacks your old key file used.
edit: typo

RE: Theater questions, and a request
Wow, does it run nicer than most systems, or does it end up about the same?
With the 970, it benchmarks better than 85% of other systems according to 3dmark.
I think it could do MUCH better, if I wanted to drop 10k or so on the nvidia card that’s meant for it for graphics applications. But this whole project started because I needed a desktop at little cost.Running BMS I’m pretty sure it’s using just one CPU (so just 12 cores). And maybe not even all 12. But that one CPU has a HUGE L3 cache compared to a desktop class machine. 20MB, as opposed to 8MB for the latest i7.
The main thing though that I think would make it able to run a huge campaign is the RAM.
A person would have to be out of their mind to buy one of these for the purpose of gaming though. -
RE: Peregrine
I-Hawk, if BMS went to a DX11 API, you could offload much of the texture computations of to the GPU. Furthermore, Updating to a GFX Engine like Python would make the change to DX11 much simpler and make the base BMS program much less CPU intensive in turn.
When I hear Python, I think of python the language. Google doesn’t show me any results for a GFX engine named Python.
Can you link me something to read? Always trying to educate myself.edit - in fact, I should be flying right now and not reading about cool new BMS tools and technology.
You guys sucked me in! -
RE: Theater questions, and a request
I bet mine could.
Long story short, I needed a new desktop but didn’t have a lot of cash to spend. But I also had a server class machine that I’d taken out of service. So I revived it from the dead, experimented a bit with some different USB hubs and such, and now I have a dual processor, 24 core game machine with 64GB of ram in it. Pretty much just out the money for a USB soundblaster and a GTX970.

Thanks so much for this invaluable thread!

RE: BMS Key File Help
This is known.
POV code lines are currently noct imported correctly.
Is fixed in U1.Thank you. I must say I’m impressed with your spreadsheet wizardry!

RE: X-55 Profile
How do you generate the jpgs? Screencap the pdf?
I was looking for a way to print jpgs from the tool but didn’t see any. Maybe I overlooked it. -
RE: Flounder's X52 Pro Keyfile/DX Profile for BMS 4.33
Really it’s yours. All I did was remap a few buttons!

RE: BMS Key File Help
Using the version of the spreadsheet which is included with the 4.33 documentation:
Using X52 (non pro)
If I load a key file that has DX mappings to POV 1 (such as DMS u/d/r/l unshifted, and trim shifted), the POV 1 maps (and just the POV 1 maps) will not be displayed on the X52 controller page.
All other custom callback assignments display correctly.I found this using the .key files from “Flounder’s 4.33 x52 pro” key files (any of them) over in the Saitek section.
I didn’t test what happens if you export (I just keep reassigning the callbacks I want before I export)
But I guess POV 1 would probably fall back to it’s defaults. -
RE: Flounder's X52 Pro Keyfile/DX Profile for BMS 4.33
If it’s working, probably my guess that SST is using the same key codes is wrong.
It sure seemed like a good guess though, considering the other three key codes match exactly!Ah well, I figured out what I needed to. Sorry to be a pest.
When I’ve verified this working for 100% X52 non pro, would you like to post up the files?
I’d be happy to give them to you.
I’m sure there are other poor slobs like me with hoopty non pro sticks. -
RE: Flounder's X52 Pro Keyfile/DX Profile for BMS 4.33
Ok, I found something wierd.
I was looking at “Flounder X52 Pro v5.pr0” in vim to see how you set it up (I can’t open X52 Pro files correctly in my version of SST).
Anyway, I found where you configured bands for the mouse x and y, and I found which keys those bands emulate when activated:[actioncommand=c1b5ba68-60e3-4cab-9a30-6648899b0b1b name=‘Radar Cursor Left’
[actionblock
[action device=keyboard [B]usage=0x00000043 page=0x00000007 value=0x00000001]]][actioncommand=116f9add-a3ae-42a5-bbd5-ba5305e5d1d3 name=‘Radar Cursor Right’
[actionblock
[action device=keyboard [B]usage=0x00000044 page=0x00000007 value=0x00000001]]][actioncommand=07e40c8a-33f2-4f7f-a34a-9f430451e706 name=‘Radar Cursor Up’
[actionblock
[action device=keyboard [B]usage=0x00000041 page=0x00000007 value=0x00000001]]][actioncommand=bf6163bd-6312-485f-b96f-97052c5c280b name=‘Radar Cursor Down’
[actionblock
[action device=keyboard [B]usage=0x00000042 page=0x00000007 value=0x00000001]]]The problem is that 0x41-0x44 correspond to F7-F10, not F8-F11. (F11 is 0x57)
Long story short, I think this SST file is mapping the wrong keys, and causes you to lose radar cursor right.
I guess my question is, am I missing something?

RE: Flounder's X52 Pro Keyfile/DX Profile for BMS 4.33
Yes, 100% correct.
Woo-hoo, I have this done and mostly working for non pro, except there’s one switch on the throttle that’s bound to awacs in your setup that I don’t seem to have a dx number for on my throttle.
I’m thinking I might have screwed it up in the pr0 file… That’s what I’ll check tomorrow… Err I mean later today after I’ve had some sleep.
It’s the first switch on the throttle base.
It was kind of a pain… Most (but not all) of the switch dx numbers were off by 32. If it were all of them it would have been really easy. But no. I reckon that’s why no one converted it already. =p
I’m kinda curious if all x52 are detected as controller 1? Or is mine detected that way because I have a Logitech G15 and an x-keys. I’d like to share the files, but I’m afraid it might not work for anyone else.
Edit: Yep. The x52 is detected as the 2nd controller because of my G13 (not G15), which apparently has one button on it’s joystick.

RE: Flounder's X52 Pro Keyfile/DX Profile for BMS 4.33
If I wanted to convert this setup for use with plain x52, I would just need to create a .pr0 with mappings set like yours (empty except for a couple of keybinds) and modify the keyfile for the x52 dx numbers, correct?

Question regarding the commented keyboard layout
Hi guys,
I’m having a brain fart here. In the keyboard layout with comments, the comments are like:
1 –> L & R MFDS
2 --> Left Console…
Right Console <-- 10
What is the meaning of 1 --> and or <-- 10 ?
:confused
Thanks in advance
