Maybe this is why Israel campaign hasn’t been updated for 4.34 yet. Because they’re working with the new terrain engine

RE: Falcon BMS 4.34 Changes you noticed.
Very happy indeed!
Way more transparent to user. Tech docs, manual for the manuals etc. Coms, Awacs-calls, AIFF, Heat-seeking, tracers, etc etc etc: Absolutly stellar; Hard work. I read the techmanual swiftly and reflected on the work put in and almost lost senses. Thank you guys!
Holding 1 billion thumps on the mp.
Cheers!
Ps. Take a vacation and enjoy the fact you very activily make hundreds and hundreds of people happy every day, FOR FREE! .Ds

This! The user documentation is outstanding, you can see how much work went into it by the ease readability, concise explanations of various functions within the software and clarity of the visual design layout. These were written with beginners in mind. The older manuals were trickier to digest. 5 years in and I’m always learning something new about BMS. It’s much appreciated, thank you!

RE: Training Manual
@Red:
What you pay for is the printing job that Lulu asks. Nobody makes a profit from it, except Lulu.
As a user of Lulu, I know that this is a lie.
Here’s Reddogs page on Lulu: http://www.lulu.com/en/shop/olivier-beaumont/bms-433-training-manual-soft-cover-full-colours/paperback/product-22627376.html
He sells the book for $29.77 USD. Fair enough. This is WITHOUT shipping cost included by the way.
Here’s the customer enquiry page for quotes on books. It gives actual book manufacturing costs, not estimates. The great thing about Lulu is that these costs are constant from initial formation of books to final publishing. They don’t change.
http://www.lulu.com/create/books
Let’s take a look at the manufacturing cost of his book. Scroll halfway down the page and enter ‘152 pages’, this is the number of pages Reddog has written for his manual. It’ll give you a figure but the size is incorrect. So after that, scroll to the bottom of the page, click on full ‘color on white’ under the Interior Print column and then select ‘A4’ in the product size.
Well, what do you know? Total manufacturing cost for a full color A4 book is $9.71.
But wait, we’re not done yet. Go to this page next because this will outline the total cost to Lulu when you sell through their website: http://www.lulu.com/sell - and also here which outlines their commission: http://connect.lulu.com/en/discussion/33139
In the first box for the first link, you’ll see how much Lulu makes on each copy in total. The base cost, which is the manufacturing cost to Lulu, plus the Lulu share, which is 20% of the net profit Reddog makes on each copy. The 2nd link outlines commission.
So Reddog sells his book for $29.77. The manufacturing cost is $9.71. So minus the sale, he makes $20.06 on each copy.
Now for commission, which is splits the net profit 80/20 between the creator/lulu, 20% of this profit amount is $4.01 which goes back to Lulu.
Therefore for each sale of this Training manual, Reddog makes $16.05 for each copy sold. Note that this DOES NOT include postage. That comes in addition to the total cost of the purchase.
I knew something was suss when I read Reddogs reaction to the OP. A little research on the matter reveals that he’s been spinning a bit of a lie to the community at the same time. I mean hey, he did write the training manual so it is his property, I don’t know how you guys feel about that but for my part, no offense by me is taken.
But the whole “I don’t make money” thing? I mean… c’mon buddy, don’t lie about you not making money on the manual. It’s hilarious to think you could honestly get away with that! Come clean

RE: F/A 18C HORNET FULL EDITION (Photoreal Cockpit & Photoreal Skin)
The textures are dated as being modified in 2009 and pretty much 95% of them share the same file-size as vanilla BMS textures, how are 8yr old textures an improvement over the 4.33u3 copy?!?

RE: Youtuber learning Falcon 4 BMS
Added an updated ramp start video:
This is utterly superb, the most professional and comprehensive ramp start video produced for BMS. Nothing else comes close. You have my sincere gratitude, Supanova

RE: Cockpit pan is not smooth
Sorry to be overriding the OP, I have tried both methods ie., using the in-game settings with the VSYNC box checked and the nvidia control panel set to “use applications settings”. I have tried as you have suggested above. I still get in-cockpit view stuttering with Vsync period. When I turn it off, my FPS shoots up as you would expect to like 120+. FPS in external camera is a bit higher, but not much. Also the mission I made in the TE to test this has no other units in it. With the higher frame rate with VSYNC off I do have minor tearing but it is not distracting to me as my head movement with Track IR is usually slow and deliberate.
I am certainly not blaming BMS for this. I can’t explain why it is happening either. I did not have this problem ( stuttering with VSYNC ON ) with my older setup. I was running the same CPU (I5 4690k@4GHZ) with a GTX 970 at a screen resolution of 1920x1200 and experienced no stuttering with VSYNC on.
Edit: I need to edit the FPS values: With VSYNC off in external view I am getting about 160+ FPS, in-cockpit is more like 100 FPS. So there is a large disparity here.
Yeah, the problem with this is that GFX technology changes quite rapidly and BMS is a truly DX9 only game while Nvidia and AMD cards of today are really only optimized for DX11/12 whilst more or less “emulating” (I say that very loosely) DX9 on legacy drivers. This creates compatibility problems with the API and the graphics card which will do weird stuff like stutter when VSYNC is on, etc. There are massive differences between the 1070 architecture and older cards, including the 970. The simple fact of the matter is that one day, sooner or later, BMS has gotta get with the times and update its API to a more recent one (DX11, Vulcan) so those of us with better hardware don’t get left in the cold with incompatibility issues. God willing, there’s ample room for that to occur and the improvement to the game, especially in offsetting physics based calculations to the graphics card, will be substantial.
Won’t be anytime soon, but one day, maybe in 2-3 weeks - lmao

RE: Cockpit pan is not smooth
You need to go to Nvidia control panel, go to “Manage 3D Settings” and switch Vsync off there, not in game. This prevents the hardware vsync from conflicting with the software vsync. It’s just a bug that BMS has. If you don’t want hardware vysnc turned off you can make a separate Nvidia game profile for BMS only so it switches off Vsync when you play it but not other games. I have roughly the same setup as you, i7 and 1060, and it fixed it

RE: Are there any documents on how the campaign works?
The official manual for the original F4 game and interview with the coder of Falcon 4’s DC will be the closest you’ll come to understanding what’s going on. The manual is included with the game and the interview link is located on the forum here somewhere, it’ll give some background as to the work involved to create it. Quasi is right, they’re mad men

RE: Stuttering in pit view
Read this (maybe?) it can help somewhere : https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?28594-About-Update-2&p=400548&viewfull=1#post400548
https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?28605-Wing-Vapor-graphics-stuttering-massive-FPS-drop-problem&p=399768&viewfull=1#post399768Brilliant, thank you Dee-Jay! I-Hawks solution in the second link was exactly what I needed. This disparity was centered on Nvidias Vysnc option and forcing it to ‘off’ so BMS can handle it on its own and ther’d be no conflict between driver and software. I still don’t understand how external views wasn’t affected by this? The poly count can’t be that much higher?
To the others, there’s nothing wrong with my i7. The game runs fine with all settings to max. And yes, I did search for solutions, I know the rules. But the forum posts get so congealed with similar complaints it’s hard to sift them for solutions. All I could find were other people having similar issues. Maybe a sticky on the technical thread with direct links to posted solutions could resolve this for us newbies?

Stuttering in pit view
So i’m running this game with a gtx 1060, 16gb ram and i7 3.2Ghz and the stuttering in pit view is the worst. The external views are ultra smooth but damn, BMS is virtually unplayable. Like i’m playing leapfrog. I know others have asked that BMS be updated to Vulkan or a higher version of Direct X, IMO that’d be like patching a window with sticky tape. It definitely needs a bit of work to the code to optimize it because it shouldn’t be happening on my rig

RE: Post your BMS 4.33 Screenshots here!
That’s what often shocks me : there is too much glowing when firing flares or when shells explode around you.
It’s normal that it puts a lot of light on the model, but there’s a glow all around the shape of the jet that shouldn’t be there.
That’s a dx9 shader issue, if BMS was updated to dx11 or 12 there would be a more accurate overall representation of in-game lighting (not to mention optimized to run faster too)

I switch the Z-axis twist option off for the rudder and use the keyboard for rudder/NWS, so much better

RE: Youtuber learning Falcon 4 BMS
The video series is real nice, Supanova. Well done! I notice the ramp start vid has tinny sound (like you’re speaking into a paper cup) compared to the rest which are very clear. I just found that video somewhat difficult to listen to after a while. Would love to see an updated vid with the level of audio recording you do now and with 4.33 to match the quality of the rest of the series
