I can see it. Since the optics of the weapons are all aligned identically during manufacture boresighting a single missile on a rack of multiples gives the proper rack offset to the computer for all weapons on that mount. I’m just surprised there isn’t a pre-programmed standard offset input to the targeting computer when the weapons are loaded.
*shrug.
In LAU-88 racks the #2 and #3 missiles will still have their covers after you’ve blown the #1 missile’s cover and used it to boresight the entire LAU.
Thanks. I always find it better to know how / why things operate the way they do when trying to use them in the field.
AESA radar: $30
Electronic emissions receiver: $20
INS: $5
TACAN: $5
Gun: $5
Rear aspect IR missiles: $10
SARH missiles (requires a radar): $10
ARH missiles (requires a radar): $15
ECM: $20
Flares: $10
Chaff: $10
RWR: $5
Total $145
… tho I must ask why is the RWR and Electronic emissions receiver not the same thing ? Wouldn’t the RWR be part of the ESM suite ?
@Cloud:
They are in the DB for each specific aircraft.
There are role scores as such: None/Cap/Tac/Strike/Cas-Int/Strat Bomb/ECM/Sead/ASW/Anti-Ship/Recon/Transport/Elint-Awacs/JSTAR/Tanker/FAC.
I’d tell you how to get to it in F4Browse, but that would cause a furry flurry of “DON’T USE F4BROWSE”….LOL
So you can either use it, or use the BMS Editor. Your choice. Just look for the role scores in the Squadron/Flight.
The mission.dat determines mission profiles, Alt, amount of aircraft, escorts and a host of other things. To many to list.

Does the DB also have control of WHEN the missions are scheduled ? It’s drivin’ me nutz to see my squadron in campaign suspend flight ops at night. I’m thinking it was A/C related but haven’t had time to search the DB.
After they have been boresighted, you will have already removed the dome covers. To do the boresighting.
Wasn’t sure if they were a part that jettisons, or an internal cover that that moves back into place when the head gets caged.
One difference between D and G is G is capable of “AREA” targeting. Make sure you’re not in area tracking mode before attempting to boresight for the most reliable results.
I don’t know if the Ds always have dome covers but they should in cases where they are mounted more than one per rack which of course with the G is impossible. It may even be done if more than one rack is on a single side of the airplane (e.g. 3 & 4) but that’s an unusual configuration.
It’s possible to boresight the missile against any SPI, even the VIS box. Point track is just the most precise.
Ahhhh, now it makes sense. After MANY nights of trying I finally got D’s boresighted as per the training mission on a CLEAR day, but the overcast training (as well my campaigns) are all inclement weather making point track boresighting extremely difficult in the air.
Just a procedure question- after the D’s are boresighted and repowered for attack, do the dome covers need to be manually removed before designating with the TGP ?
Hey,
If you change a squadron, you want to use the resupply in MC when you change the aircraft type.
Thats what the functions are added forThe .his has nothing much to do with this as this data is not saved there. Its much more simpler than that.
The stores that the squadron has are for the old sq, not for the new one.
All stored in the mission file (.cam/.tac)The same is true for the pilots and aircrafts in use. These are also from the old squadron.
Depending on if you deleted all the flights or not, you want to clear all the pilots and aircraft.
Else the mission will not get generated or aborted as there are no pilots and/or aircraft available.Gr Falcas
+1
That was my experience as well. After changing A/C the squadron stores remained as for the old A/C and rather than wait for the natural resupply schedule and fly with limited stores, I pushed the resupply for the new A/C so I could have available what the new A/C needed to be effective.
I also did not delete any of the already assigned missions that used the previous A/C, but noted all new created missions after the A/C change were assigned using the replacement A/C. As a bonus I also noted any previous A/C already scheduled but not inflight were also using the new stores available.
So far I’m not game enough to try to edit a campaign creation file to force it to use a different A/C, I didn’t see a need to since a seconds old ‘new’ campaign save can be so easily edited.
On holliday now. Will try it.
While you’re in MC changing the squadrons A/C type, don’t forget to force a resupply or you might find your new A/C doesn’t have stores to use. I’ve edited a saved campaign twice using this method, and both times I had to manually force a resupply in MC, or wait till the scheduled resupply to get the stores my replacement A/C can use.
The only difference in BMS as far as boresighting is concerned is that the D model has dome covers, which you need to remove with UNCAGE. Assuming you’ve done that I can’t think of any other reason why you would struggle with D’s but not with G’s.
From p165 of the TO BMS1-F16CM-34-1-1
*shrug
Me either, but the G’s boresight fine, even on the ground. I haven’t tried a single weapon tho, my failures all occur with the triple rack, and all on the same A/C.
Boresighting Mavs on the ground (in BMS) is just a waste of time, even if you can find something you can point track.
It is so much easier and quicker to do this once you are airborne. Once you are competent you can easily boresight all stations without even deviating from your flightpath, either just after takeoff before you climb to cruising altitude, or at some point along your route if it’s more convenient to do it later.
Like so many other tasks, practise makes it easier and quicker to do.
Do the mav D’s require the laser ? I simply cannot get them boresighted on ground or inflight no matter what I do.
Just a guess (after all of 2 hours poking around in F4browse) is to add/replace a squadrons aircraft type. It’s pretty easy in missioncommander, tho the frag order takes some time to autoupdate using the new equipment if you edit an existing campaign file.
Boresigthing Mavs in ground is a good option, I tried it but I couldnt obtain a point lock at the objects I tried with . Has anybody succeed in it ?
Which procedure is done in RL, when in ground or once at flight ?
Thanks
Yes, tho only with the ‘G’'s. I’ve had no luck with the 'D’s even using the same target on the ground. Maybe I just got lucky and the KF-16-32 doesn’t like the ‘D’ mav.
Not sure if this goes here, but I need a little help with a ‘minor’ edit.
Ideally I’de like to clone an existing aircraft to a ‘new type’ and modify it’s capabilities instead of a direct edit on an existing BMS model. In a nutshell- I’de like to add shrike/HARM capability to the existing KF-16C-32. From what I read on f-16.net, South Korea received 36 blk 32’s under ‘peace bridge 1’ just about the time blk 30-B’s went into production (shrike / HARM) added. So I’de like to add these capabilities to the ROKAF birds by either creating a new subclass or direct DB edit. I don’t NEED the full HAD system, just basic carry and launch using the weapons own seeker head.
Can anyone help ?
<edit 08-01=“”>Figured it out. A simple edit using F4 browse did the trick. Added the Shrike / HARM and Durandals to the hardpoints (3.7), and updated the squadron stores. Piece-o-cake.</edit>

Yes, NUM 0 is the Designate(Lock) key.
Hit NUM 0 once and the target is “Soft Locked”, he doesn’t know you have him locked.
Hit NUM 0 a second time and the target is “Hard Locked” and he now knows you have him locked as his cockpit warnings alert him.
More in the manual!!!

hmm, didn’t know that- been using shift-arrows to designate, and shift-home / end to lock / unlock. Learn something new everyday.
That list would be helpful, thanks MaddogK. Can you tell me how to back out of the Microsoft account they hooked me into?
I really don’t like the spying and forced updates either. Simple maybe, but I do not know how to rid myself of these scourges/? Look forward to learning how.
IIRC the MSLive account has to be terminated when you log into their server via a browser, tho I’de be wary of doing that if your running office later than 07 since the current office is a subscription service.
Lest you be much disappointed three to four weeks from now, I should point out that its a recurring joke that any and all improvements are three to four falcon weeks away - the length of a falcon week being rather indeterminate and subject to change. A bit of a play on developers having an update coming out three to four weeks away… and three weeks later, its still three to four weeks away. Ad nauseum.
If it’s any consolation I removed my pilot in the campaign to a different squadron that fly’s the KF-16c-32 and found the magic I’ve been missing. Problem is, the unit is so far out in the sticks that the enemy can’t even find me. The old blk 32 has it’s quirks but it’s a whole lot less a video game object than the CM50 was.
Now once I’m up to speed on campaign editing and can get a C32 or CM42 to replace a frontline 50/52 unit I’ll be golden.
Noobie question:
Can someone point me to, or post a quick and dirty guide for replacing a squadrons aircraft with a different block A/C, or replacing the squadron completely with one flying the particular block A/C I want ? I assume ‘missionCommander’ is tool I use for this task.
I’de like to replace one of the Korea campaign squadrons block 52 aircraft with block 45 or 32.
I have W10 on my laptop. Do not like it. Bloated software, privacy concerns and no control of updates. Keeping W7 on my sim rig as long as possible.
I didn’t keep a list of sites I found answers on those, but all those ‘features’ can be removed. I’ll see if I can resurrect the list, but replacing the start button with the classic W7 start button is easy, the ‘bloatware’ apps can be removed with a simple text entry in powershell, and a simple registry edit will get your control back of windows update scheduling. The only thing I couldn’t permanently break was cortana, but at least it’s managable now and doesn’t call home on every powerup.
