RE: 4.37 killed the AMRAAM
@nighthawk2174 - this is pretty much the sort of thing I was expecting based on previous commentary concerning the “improvements” to the model. I knew it was wrong then, and it’s wrong here…
…and I still feel the best solution is to return to the 4.35 model and just leave that alone.

RE: F16 Stall
@Mav-jp - dunno, and given that I don’t work on them I’m not even sure I care…I only care that it can kill effectively, and Mach 2+ isn’t effective in a turning fight.
But I do know that it can kill effectively, and that’s good enough for me.

RE: Trigger detents 1 and 2
@Marge - might want to check just where your laser Trigger is assigned…it should fire on Detent 2 (only). Detent 1 should start and continue AVTR recording.

RE: F15C HUD - AIM-120 SYMBOLOGY
@ericfa2a - pretty sure that’s how it is in RL.

RE: Bug Report: Jdam/Loft - physics bug
@danaos75 - believe you are seeing what you are seeing and that there is no detonation because I’m not seeing a detonation flash or water displacement in your video. Furthermore, I have a hard time thinking that your fuse will arm within 2 sec post release. But here’s something you can try, given that:
-
it IS possible to loft a JDAM in RL (and the time of flight gets VERY long - trust me), and the mode of release to do it shouldn’t differ from any other mode for loft of any other free fall weapon.
-
set your fuse arm time to something long - like greater than 5 sec, or to the max selectable - to force your fuse not to arm prior to impact, and try this again. Setting the arm time longer than the predicted time of fall should eliminate the issue of early burst or detonation on the water from this altitude. If not, there is yet another problem…and if you get the same result, there may actually be two problems.

RE: Dogfight mode - Use of IR missiles only
@Anakin051177 +1. It may also depend on what Country your Viper is assigned to - I don’t recall that the USAF ever used the -9P - or not to a very great extent, forex.

RE: Possible future of BMS ATC?
I should think there would be a way to integrate BMS operations with VATSIM using export/import of flight parameters and sound between the two:
This would have to be done cooperatively, as there are live Controllers active in VATSIM. How you would get VATSIM to register combat losses/fallouts and how to get VATSIM IFF and civil traffic onto your BMS radar would also be challenges…but I can’t think of why a smart coder couldn’t cobble an interface together within the freeware continuum…
Otherwise, I’d have to agree - shouldn’t expect to see this become BMS-naive. At least, not within my lifetime.

RE: AGM-65L TD box and TLL broken in VIS and PRE modes
An LMAV should not have a “PRE” or “VIS” mode…to begin with. It should only have to time in and be uncaged. After which is should go into one of two Scan modes until it locks a spot. If there is a designation it should Slave to that.

RE: Ship Anti missile defense ineffective?
I think that Maritime Strike operations in BMS are under/mis-modeled in BMS in general…but that’s to be expected for an F-16 based project - such operations aren’t really in that Platform Mission set.
-
RE: Ship Anti missile defense ineffective?
@fegeleinn - actually, what is under-modeled is how many inbound aircraft will actually get through to take a shot in the first place…and that the most appropriate munitions are not even in the Viper inventory. And the HARPOON model could be wonky, or how people are trying to using it - guesses at tactics could be off.
Taking out a ship of size is a very hard problem to solve…I don’t even bother to try it in BMS.
-
RE: Ship Anti missile defense ineffective?
@fegeleinn - so, in RL warfare at sea defending aircraft generally play a very small role, if any. Any SAM system that you may encounter over land also has a shipborne version (on ships of size) - and that is what is going to take you out first. The RL problem is getting inside of those - and getting enough missiles inside of those - to be effective. Fighter should be the last thing you encounter, IF you actually live to get close enough - fuel burn and requirement for re-fuel over water holds them to last-tasked due to range/endurance/time on station limitations.
From what I read of people doing Maritime Attack in BMS the scenarios are grossly non-realistic…too many people actually survive, and I’m guessing this is “game-ism” over “realisimo”. Some of the SAM systems in BMS are under modeled, too. That could be corrected with some attention to Janes pubs…the expensive hardboard Annuals, not the paper periodical ones.

RE: F15C HUD - AIM-120 SYMBOLOGY
@ericfa2a - not really…you should be shooting on a timeline based on range, and as such you should know at what range your A-Pole is going to occur.
I don’t think about time to A-Pole, forex…I pay far more attention to range at A-Pole and having to possibly avoid a follow up shot from my target, or his wingman.

RE: Phantom Phrustration
@LorikEolmin - I am on topic. You shouldn’t be able to get off the deck if you are skagging the stub of your nose gear along. So if you’re not off by rotation speed I wouldn’t expect that you could or should get off the deck.
Burst speed for the nose tires should be someplace around 190-ish knots, so if you haven’t rotated before then you should have additional problems.

RE: U2 radar & AIM-120C5 impression
@airtex2019 - if STT works like it does in RL, you shouldn’t be able to support anything but a single shot with it…which is NOT the purpose of an AIM-120.
STT is primarily a mode for support of AIM-7. That is what it was developed for.
