WIP skinning took the blueporint and cutting/editing etc… it still needs work but its ok till now. What do u think? Also there’s some distortions cause the model i have in game isnt edited as it is now when i finish the skinning i will export a new one

Well done, Manos.
My advice, don’t trust too much the blueprint. You can use it but real pictures are the best. I’m more based on real pictures for texture, blueprint is also good referense material but not 100% correct. There are often mistakes that you will unconsciously commit in WIP.That’s my two cents.

Current status :
Took me more than 10 hours in total cutting and fixing and transform but i think it worth it few things left to be done and stencils….
By the way Eghi the same blueprint i used to make the model i made the panels. Every blueprint i fount in the well known site and they are Russian its probbably the most accurate i have ever seen like 98%
PS.: The shodows in the control surfaces i dont know why they shown in 3ds. In the game i didnt see them at all -

This model was imported from another format, Lightwave or SketchUp? Check Normals, there is probably your problem.

Shadow issues is an issue with Smoothing. Apply modifier/Smoothing/ tick both options and input 30 for the value. It will work fine.

Yup indeed… i had made a mistake Thanks!

And IMHO the issue could be a result of not welded vertex and/or wrong smoothing groups.
Manos, in that 10 hours you could also have painted those panel lines yourself nicely.
Now you have thick panel lines from the blueprint which are looking not so RL, IMHO.Looking at your stuff, I see you’re eager to finish it ASAP, but keep in mind that a really good skin
takes weeks if not months to get done. But yeah, it’s not my model and not my workflow, so just my 2 cent.
Cheers,

Lazy… Im not a skinner… the Phantom went ok as the other models as well cause i allready had given a good psd Here i making my life difficult as working in photo editing programs is not my thing and its fustrating me A LOT! lol
Thats why i asked skinners to help out here and make a better skin than mine. If you see for example the way it is painted you will laugh. especially if i remove the mask (witch i have to cause if you use it u see the uv borders in some places).
Anyways more wip photos:

That’s awesome!!! Will the F-4, F-5 and A-7 be released only with the Greek theater or also as standalone mods that we can use in other theatres?
I’m thinking a 1980s KTO, ITO, Nordic, CET and Oostzee campaign or even a Desert Storm theater in the future.

If anything is aligned well, I start to paint my panel lines and rivets lines,
using paths in photoshop.
LSwhy you emphasize on paths? what’s the trick? Well actually what they do? Never used them.
-
why you emphasize on paths? what’s the trick? Well actually what they do? Never used them.
Hi Arty,
this should explain you:
-
why you emphasize on paths? what’s the trick? Well actually what they do? Never used them.
I know you never use them, Arty.
A path in Photoshop can be created and modified in similar way you create vector paths in CorelDraw.
Need a circle, a quad or a line, etc. create/modify it, and copy/paste and place it multible times, NPPaths in PS can be used in many ways, … you can fill closed paths with any color,
you can make an selection from a closed path, (both usefull for camo creation)
You can even make a path from a RGB selection. And you can create lines or rivets from open or closed paths using a line brush or a rivets brush.
(… any brush)Once all (for example) panel lines are created as paths, it’s just a few mouse clicks
to make a RGB layer out of them.
Now if some lines or the brush needs a change, I delete the lines from RGB layer,
adjust the line paths in Path layer, and then recreate the RGB layer from that
modified Path layer with a new brush setting.I could list some more examples, and for sure paths in PS might be not that comfortable to use
as in CorelDraw, but I use paths whenever I need them, because they are that usefull.IIRC look at my F-15 (template or AGR) skin,
there could be also paths inside the .psd for you to watch, … or to play with.Cheers,
LS -
thank you Lazy.
where can that F-15 template skin can be found? You lost me with the RGB layers from paths…
Well I believe this would be another case of PS working the tool and not the idea.
For example I’m totally annoyed of the whole process of copy paste something from one file to another and when u finally do, it’s just not placed where it should (as it was in source) but as PS wants it to be, and I just give up, fire up photopaint, get done in a zap and just use PS as a simple dds converter which just should be, and is, for me.If they have same functionality as in CorelDraw then those should be used vastly for creating digital gfx as skin and texture creators here do.
Maybe I’m damp and believe they r not so used, or how they work…Edit: Oh thank you Eghi. I just saw your post.
Well the future is 3D painting. already there are many apps. example Manos is trying to figure how to do the mapping, and Lazy adds valuable info how to align uvmapping areas… well on new 3d painting apps you don’t have to do so. just paint on it. Sure there are other procedures but the main principals like layers is the same. u see the outcome live in 3d. if it’s not where it should just place it where it should from zero. The align lines if needed can be drawn as a new layer and deleted or hidden, but why lines? use mirror or symetry on the whole model or the area u paint.

thank you Lazy.
where can that F-15 template skin can be found? Not in YOUR hot list already?

But I’ve not looked into them if they really contain the paths. You lost me with the RGB layers from paths…
RGB layer means a standard layer, the Path layer is an extra layer which holds no
pixel info, but vector info, and you work with both layers.Cheers,
LS -
First off dear Manos excuse me for derailing your thread. But I hope and believe that the whole derail was in the spirit of exploiting and exchanging our info and knowledge to help each other.
@Lazy there are no paths in the first link and the second is an exe… and don’t want to mix beyond recognition my install now… I have them mixed already so I believe u understand.
The link that Eghi posted was good and the second one that the video pointed to, completed the paths section for me. So yes kinda the same functionality as I have - use in Corel Draw. For me PS is slower on the user input and interaction compared to Corel. Thanks guys and once again Manos very very very sorry for the OT.

is that a special variant of the F5 ?

is that a special variant of the F5 ?
It will be an F-5A with initial skins for Greece/Turkey, but other skins/countries and model variants (E) can be easily made, specially is there is an interest in adopting this work of Manos.
