If we could add one button the the Cougar throttle, what would we use it for?
-
combined, thanks
-
@Red:
my take on that one is to have it combined with the UHF ptt. Not on its own
In my case, it’s all DX so VAC PTT is an issue I wasn’t able to solve yetOff-topic, but maybe useful…
It’s a minor step away from DX, but with Foxy (not sure about any other software), you’re able to assign a key to a DX-button.
E.g. for recordings, due to background noise, I don’t want my mic activated all the time, but only when I actually PTT.
I use Dunc_DX, in case it’s important, and PTT in my recording software is set to ‘s’, so
- in the .tmm, add:
PTT = s
- in the .tmj, add:
BTN T2 /H {DX21 PTT} BTN T3 /H {DX20 PTT}
There you have your PTT set, while maintaining full DX-functionality.

thanks, but my throttle is not connected to the cougar anymore, it’s a full DX. I can’t use foxy anymore.
-
I would use it for a shift key, if I didn’t have a Warthog stick grip and it’s CMS->dwn function available.

Do you use the CMS down on a Cougar setup? If yes, how do you make this button work please?

Curious as well…
-
On the desktop, I use CMS-> dwn as a shift key (I think mos people using Cougar stick use the Paddle as a command shift key) to do a couple things -
-
double CMS->dwn shifts my hat from POV to Trim; hold CMS->dwn for greater than 2 sec shifts the hat back to POV.
-
CMS->dwn+Pinky to command Eject…without an actual handle to pull, “squeezing the stick” gets me an Eject command. Very quick and effective!
I’m sure I’ll think of other shift layer uses for CMS->dwn once my pit is built and running, but for now and future I can’t/won’t live without this button/function - so glad that Arend has is new FCC WH board available and that’s what I’ll use in my pit to get full function from a WH grip (I’ll be needing a second one, I think…).
Edit: to clarify, I use a WH stick and a Cougar throttle!

I suggest Detent Trigger… maybe its a part of the throttle rail system and not switch, but if Cougar had it and works also as a DX switch, it should bring more convenience to the sim.
personnaly do not need the idle detent callback, but it’s indeed a good idea for those who might not have the full arm…
Yeap I agree idle detent is a good idea!
-
I’ve wondering if there’s a way to use the Warthog’s Idle detent switch without resorting to target?
I have so many additional switches on my Warthog’s throttle that I’m not actively mapping ATM an extra throttle button would probably only confuse me (I’m using mostly stock settings on the device from Kolbe’s key file generator sheet, 2 separate devices in DX mode).
All the best, Uwe

How da heck did you do that?
Probably target sw. or? I’m intermediate/expert in foxy and I can’t see this case.Would need real-virtual hat for 2nd layer …or directly pressing DX buttons above 32 (POVx+256)… if that is supported in cougars firmware.
Anyway good idea, need to think a bit.
edit… omg… 2nd hw layer of pov-hat would be keyboard input for trim (or vice versa, keyboard pov) … now that would need unshifted pov in bms , but it would work

I have modded my cougar throttle a couple of weeks ago, adding the idle detent and hobos for toggling the nvg’s. Future expansion will add the slap and canopy switches to a rail structure.
-
For those without full realism pits I would go for the idle detent or slap switch as suggested by several before me.
NVG is another good candidate if you have the idle cutoff and slap switch available elsewhere. -
Without the pit, some ancillary stuff like VMS Inhibit, Slap Switch, etc.
With it, stuff like padlock, chat window, escape window….
-
Padlock is another great idea
(I never quite use it, but it’s a real good candidate)Do you use the VMS inhibit frequently? I never do
-
Red Dog already has all the F-16 stuff in his cockpit.
You need to think outside the box.
-
Best out of the box thinking ever made in my pit:
They can call me for dinner

I used to, but I had done it as a pushbutton rather than a toggle. My mike used to leak audio and if I was in TS in voice activation, the others could hear betty in some cases
Zoom could be good as well, in the same spirit as padlock (the “Look Closer” callback that gives you a fixed zoom if in default, and reset you back to default if not).
-
Any of these already said are good:
NVG HOBO
Padlock
Detent
SlapSome more useful hotas functions
Flaps (Hornet)
Hook (Hornet)
TrackIR center
Drogue Chute (MLU)
FLCS reset
EjectBut why limit to just adding one button?
Along with my Cougar set of controllers, I also use a Saitek Throttle Quad that has DX programmable buttons and 3 levers with detents. I use these primarily when I fly the Hornet or AV8B -
Another great function I use CMS->dwn on my Warthog for is to eject. CMS->dwn + pinky in combination commands ejection…I simply “squeeze the stick” and I’m out.
