I suggest to improve the strobe anti-collision light which seems to be not enough dazzling in my point of view…very hard to see the wingman n complete darkness from a certain distance with the anti collision on.

Same for the runway strobes

Same for the runway strobes
Runways are fine (compared to RL) … but indeed, other a/c are almost not visible by night. The problem is: it is truly not trivial to enhance, and would probably need to redo ALL 3D models … in other words, do not hold your breath.
I see also another solution than having the lights in 3D model, but we have no idea it is is possible nor desirable.
-
I disagree about runways, IMHO they should be much brighter, and the interaction with lights and weather should be better as well in general.
The bad weather approach and the need for runway lights shining on and off and being dissipated by low clouds of fogs is really missing.Another missing aspect for light is their importance in the role they play in spatial disorientation when flying through weather, especially flashing lights.
On a general observation, the world is way too dark in BMS (don’t tell me it’s because of the visor) and the lights are not enough bright.
I agree it should be made better if possible -

The only thing can say on my side, is that in game, we see the runway much easier and much earlier than what I am used to see during 20y of military aviation.
Fog is another subject, and is something tied to rendering (glows, flares). Not intensity per say.

that’s because you’re used to land on desert strips with special ops guys lighting the runway with matches
My real IFR experience is different but let’s go back to BMS:in dry air, I would agree that the current runway lights are enough for the job we ask them. But in hi humidity air, there’s no light reflection or dissipation or aura as you often can see in real life.
And that’s what I was trying to say. When you’re really looking at getting the runway lights at minima on a shitty weather approach in BMS, I think the lights could be made better to serve their purpose to tell the pilot where the runway is
And that’s also what I meant to tell when you fly in the clouds with your lights flashing. There is in BMS very few reflection on the clouds water drupplets blinding you back, that would be made much more immersive IMHO if possible
But it’s a tiny cherry on the cake I agree. -
Hi again mate!

My real IFR experience is differentI do not fly exclusively over the desert you know.
I know it sounds seriously smart ass, but we can make a list of the airfield landed in IFR by night and/or bad weather if you wish …Quickly just my memory,

…I have an idea about what you mean when speaking weather and night approaches on civilized airports.
But we can disagree, this is no really a problem. It is even a good thing most of the time cause it drains attentions on some aspects of the sim.
Do not forget that we just moved from DX9 to DX11 … it is only the start of a new possibilities (?) However … and IMO this is important:@Red:

Sorry to say mate, but some peoples would certainty appreciate a bit more respect toward the software and the big efforts made to brings us this “shitty weather approach” and what it is today. Especially coming for a team member.
Pointing what is not good is a good thing. But from time to time, a compliment towards the guys who are working or some nice words coming from you could be a game changer.Kind regards. (and thank you for the Docs and the great Interactive AIPs)

I’m with Dee-Jay here.
I think that runways are far too visible in BMS.
I remember clearly, in real life, not being able to really see the runway before 2nm or so even when the weather conditions were very nice. It depends on the runway material, the lighting conditions, the humidity and also the environment.
I’m not here to show who has the biggest one, but Dee-Jay and I come from the same kind of operational flying life (with much more flight hours for Dee-Jay than me).
Also conditions have no relevance here : flying a Cessna 182 in both VFR or IFR will not change the way you see the runway : as anyone know, IFR means flying regulations and not conditions. Most of airline pilots will fly IFR with a CAVOK sky.
Cheers,
Radium

I think shitty refers to the weather (bad weather), not the software.

picture worth than a thousand words,
Here’s what I’m trying to expressI agree the photographic aperture makes the lights brighter - but compare the PAPIS …
Yet there is a huge difference between real and BMS as far as the light brightness are concerned. A bright light makes a better job at runway approach lightning than a dull light.
the also try to see the blue taxi light on the BMS picture and look at the green light at the real picture.BMS airport are not always lighted, so when they are lighted, that’s for traffic to land. Then maybe the light should be a bit of more help. IMHO
I think shitty refers to the weather (bad weather), not the software.
lol, note to self: do not forget some have an extremely short fuze.
of course it’s weather -
@Red:
picture worth than a thousand words,
As you said … it’s a picture.
On my side, most of the airports I’ve made by night do not looks like this. Maybe the one located in the middle of a big city with lot of light pollution (Paris, Washington, LA …) … and/or when pilot request the max intensity … but most of the time, it is quite lower than this. And it becomes more identifiable once you are aligned.
-
fair enough
Maybe a compromise lies between the two picture above mate. As always
Any way. Point is done and the “picture” delivers the message anyway, after that we’re all entitled to our opinions -
… I mean … it is usable in game? Yes it is.
It there room for improvement, sure!
DX11 just arrived. Lets see what we can do with it. (If we have some ppl with the motivation to still work on it). -
… And look
!!!(okay … the runway lighting is absolutely not the reason why I’ve posted this video. just for the pleasure to share with you all. :D)

Jeez… the only real encounter i had is as a passenger going to Oslo. Approach at night and in the soup. Pilot ordered every electronic to turned off 100%,not in flightmode, as we where going for an complete ILS approach with no visual on the airport lol i can say that it was the 1st time in my life i was scared in flight!
On the subject there is room for improvement in all aspects within DX11 i believe but as it is said the thing is to find the time and the right people to do it. Every airport imho is unique in daytime, nighttime, bad weather, good weather. We dont know yet the possibilities of dx11 100% within the sim and what can be achieved.Στάλθηκε από το SM-G970F μου χρησιμοποιώντας Tapatalk
