This Sucks

Well I never played BMS 4.32 because the setup of the joy sticks was so confusing that it didn’t seem worth the trouble.
So with 4.33 I had hoped the past was left behind. But no so. Configuring the joystick setup is still a nightmare.
Somebody thought that everybody was a computer expert.
Simple joystick of Falcon 4 AF was the way to go together the greatest numbers of users, but someone thought that making
it as complicated as possible was the answer. My thought is that BMS is soon to fail because of personal ignorance.
Lots of people want to fly, but they don’t want to spend all their time being a computer guru. -
What kind of joystick do you have?
-
May I ask, what joystick do you have? What’s the problem with configuring your joystick with BMS? The simplest way of configuring a joystick that I’m aware of is that you start BMS, go to the controllers page of the setup, and assign the proper joystick axes to represent the roll, pitch, and throttle (and yaw, if you have a rudder axis). Additionally, you may assign the rotary knobs of your joystick to other F-16 HOTAS functions, such as radar scan elevation and manual range knob. After assigning the axes, you may assign the joystick buttons and hats to the commands you desire through the BMS controller setup screen (while this is not recommended generally, it may still be done anyway). After this you click “save”, and that’s basically it.

Holding…emotionally…charged…response. I suspect that if you do get your joystick up you will then be frustrated that the avionics are too complicated. I notice you don’t have any posts asking for help, just this double post blasting the creators of a highly successful and completely awesome community mod to a game that’s been going strong since 1998. Yup, failure is just around the corner.

This sim isn’t for everyone. And no, I’m not an elitist. Far from it. Ninety-nine percent of the ‘entertainment software’ out there is not for me. Doesn’t make them worthy of negative feedback on my part. Read the manual. Ask questions (as you’d like them presented to you). And, eventually, you’ll come to love it. Or not.

This other fellow seems to have the same problem.

Must be an epidemic.

Then we need to contain it

Lord knows I believe in helping and community and all that. However, I must admit that my initial reaction to this post was to wish the writer a happy life, and don’t let the virtual door hit his gluteal region on the way out

Same fellow, just another thread started with exactly the same wording… Surely, might not be a unique case…

We need a pyromancer for this one

Saitek AV8R-01 believe it or not. But someday I swear, I will have a HOTAS. Oh yes, I will.

Actually, I started with that too. A real HOTAS will blow you away

read the TO-BMS1F-16CM-1 in the DOC folder in your BMS install location
I recommend pages 27-29 and 54-56 for a good way to setup your flight controls
Become familiar with the terms TMS, DMS, CMS and COMMS….
Print the pages I mentioned and practice, practice, practice
…or just continue playing Ace Combat on your X-Box…

Lots of people want to fly, but they don’t want to spend all their time being a computer guru.I guess you’re not playing DCS, FC3, or other complex sims then.
Do you want help? Or are you just here to moan? If you want help, then maybe make a new post and try again. There is a “Joystick & Input Devices” sub-forum for this very purpose. If you’re just here to complain, well, good luck with whatever non-complex activity you decide to do next.
My thought is that BMS is soon to fail because of personal ignorance.
You might fail, but BMS seems to be going strong and growing.
Lots of people want to fly, but they don’t want to spend all their time being a computer guru.
And they do indeed! Some don’t even bother setting up their joystick… they just borrow/copy a profile that is made for their type of joystick/HOTAS and go off and learn the sim!

I love how this hardcore sim vets itself.

Ya know when I was told to RTFM I reacted like I was insulted yet frankly it was the best advice I needed.

It’s negative reinforcement. Whether it works or not depends on your upbringing IMO. I was subjected to this throughout my youth, and always accepted it as a challenge to prove I was up to the task. The other side of the coin, is a feeling of oppression that some just can’t overcome. But as Mower correctly stated, the “sim vets itself”.

Yes but this is not an arcade game and requires an effort to learn the tech stuff and I do agree with Mower.
