IMPORTANT : MFD extract
-
Guys it’s just a simple q.
Why try to find a negative aspect on it? For me it’s positive.
My assumption from it? Most probably they want to add some new features or new implementation for it and they want to see where the majority is and decide to have it high or low on their priority list.Στάλθηκε από το MI 5 μου χρησιμοποιώντας Tapatalk

No humour, no aggressiveness. Just plain English.
This is all just semantics, but I also was under the impression that this vote is critical, from the “IMPORTANT” in the thread name and the definiteness in the poll question. No it doesn’t say that MFD extraction will be removed but it is implied if you read it like I do. I.e. apparently we don’t all read plain english. This is easily avoided next time with a small explanation on the why. Unless you like to revel in mystery of course, but then don’t blame people being puzzled…

I don’t blame people being puzzled by a lack of information or explanation - what I dislike is people jumping to conclusions based on nothing. It is atypical to assume the worst case scenario all the time. Why does everyhing have to be so negative? Why always assume the worst? The question, again, was simple - do you or do you not use extraction? A simple yes or no would suffice, but somehow this simple question gets interpretted by some its the end of the world and BMS are going to **** us all over and remove it, the thoughtless self-serving bastards…
Yes, I agree with you 100 percent, a better worded or fuller explanation would have been much much better, but why assume the worst all time? Always look on the bright side of life anyone?

So far I’ve been a “perpetual newbie”, learning the sim very slowly when I can find some time.
I voted “no” because I haven’t used any external MFDs yet.
However, I do often dream of having some sort of external MFDs and/or ICP. I’d love to have the TM MFDs with clickable buttons, mounted in front an extra monitor (or monitors), so that I could look at the MFDs, see the same thing that’s in the virtual cockpit, and push the physical OSBs. Maybe even have some sort of ICP, too, either on a touchscreen or with physical buttons.
If you you have a spare monitor for mounting the MFD frames using velcro and an android tablet to emulate an ICP, don’t hesitate in ordering those TM mfd frames.
It’s really not that hard to set up (thanks to YAME) if you know how to use a text editor to edit your keyfile and / or know your way around Kolbe’s keyfile generation tool.
It really adds a lot to the gaming experience IMHO and your “deskpit” will look so much cooler because of it
All the best, Uwe

Fortunately Mav asked not to reply and just vote. What would have it been?

Very well said indeed. I have a spare monitor and those TM MFDs, very cool! I even ordered a spare set of the TM MFDs just for case that one day they won’t exist anymore and I will be doomed
I also was lucky enough to have a “very close to real” ICP module prepared for me by someone who knows the stuff, but even before that I used Logitech G13 keyboard for ICP purpose and it was very good actually, now I’m using it for other “switches/Handles” function (GEAR handle, parking brake, JFS etc etc). It’s really almost a mini-cockpit on my desk, not bad at all for the relatively cheap investment

Even the additional buttons on the MFD (gain, etc…) can be used as a complement to the classic keyboard shortcuts. The MFD are a precious addition, undoubtly, even without a screen in the middle. I personally use a tablet Android resting between my Cougars to still check my MFD screens while turning my head, in spite of the lag. Extraction on spare screen is alas too big of a FPS loss, no matter what.

Can’t wait for 4.34, I would even fly it without any MFDs - external or internal!
-
are you saying that people who have no MFD at the moment have voted yes because they feared we could remove the option ?
JEEEZ that is worse than Brexit referendum !!!
hahahaha
But seriously… I voted “yes”. Even though I don’t actually use extracted MFDs. Yet.
I have extracted MFDs already but gave up. Because of the dual/lagging/stereo cursor problem of Alt-Tab out of and back into BMS repeatedly. So…I have ordered a pair of TM MFD Cougar. Unfortunately Amazon tells me I’ll be waiting a couple months for them to ship. When I finally get those I will superimpose upon the extracted MFDs and never go back.
The couple times I used extracted MFDs I was sold. The only reason I (temporarily) stopped is the inability of BMS to currently handle repeated Alt-Tabbing. So for me to click on the extracted MFDs it was not ideal. But when I’ll finally be able to “press buttons” with my finger on the extracted MFDs, I’m never gonna click on MFD buttons in the 3d/2d ever again. No more tilting my head forward with the TrackIR just to discern what the MFD is saying, or to mouse-click a button. All finger pressing on the extrated MFD for me! Someday. Whenever Amazon will ship those darn things to me…

What?! Seriously?! Still, people *(even my good buddy Arty) are assuming this is some sort of official Development Team Member asking for people to vote on potential features!!! –-- Let’s be clear: This is NOT how the BMS Dev team operates! When have we EVER seen a poll where the Dev’s put it to us to decide on any alteration/addition/removal of any feature(s)?
A poll is just a poll. Did I miss the part where Mav-jp is an active developer for the BMS team? I humbly apologize if I missed that key point, because AFAIK Mav is a Senior Member who has been around forever, but is not currently an active developer on the BMS Team.
Whole lot off assumptions for a simple Poll, and it’s still happening. sigh Boy, I’m glad I’m not the one who thought a fun poll about who uses extracted MFD’s would be neat, because I’d be pulling my hair out at the roots about now. Much love, Mav - cool poll even if it’s a bit off the rails!

*FTR, in case someone here reading did not know, the fix for the double cursor after an ALT-TAB from BMS is to ALT-TAB back to BMS, then press CTRL-ALT-DELETE and then ESCAPE to return to BMS - 2nd mouse cursor disappears. Not useful for repeated use, as stated, but those external Cougar MFD’s will eliminate the issue for you once they arrive.

Mav-JP is an extremely major member of the dev team.

You forgot to mention that he is french on top of that

I wonder … What would happen if he said please elaborate on your vote…

No need to discuss it more. There was never any question of suppressing the extraction of MDF, but simply presenting the option in .cfg vs BMS configurator … that’s all.

So I think it’s time to call this thread to a close.
It was a mistake to post the poll question without more context and one that we’ll learn from for the next time. By no means was it the intention of anyone on the development team to alarm people and the team is sorry if there was any upset, however unintentional. This was meant to be simple data gathering; and by the way we got that in the process so thank you.
Here’s how this came about. As we work on prepping 4.34 for release (yes, we’re heading that way, no I’m not saying anything about dates), performance tuning is of course one of those things we look at. To cut a longer story short, in comparison with earlier versions the code we have now shows lower FPS in external views and we wondered why. One candidate we looked at was the Render To Texture (RTT) support – this is “on” as a feature by default but can be turned off in the config. Turning it off does increase frame rate; less work to do, duh The poll then was intended to get a sense of whether this feature should be on by default or not based on the number of users expecting to export cockpit display elements. To be clear: we were only thinking about the polarity of the default for the config file value – nothing more.
In point of fact we’re actively IMPROVING the performance and capability of RTT to the extent we can so worries about this going away are actually 180 degrees off from the reality.
I hope it should be no surprise that 4.34 will in some cases show lower absolute FPS – there’s a lot more going on in the code and a lot of bug fixes. As far as external view FPS is concerned specifically it turns out that rates seen in 4.33 aren’t achievable in 4.34 because of a bug fix – we have at various times warned that use of external views was bad for stability…in 4.34 that stability is significantly improved for external views but it does cost some frame rate to make that so…the trade off is well worth it though since a whole class of stability bugs was conquered and the actual FPS cost is nominal – all you see in the game is that the FPS difference between in cockpit and outside views is less pronounced and yes, both rates are still perfectly fine for game play purposes on the wide variety of systems the beta test team is working with. [complete disclosure: use of external views for extended time especially with time acceleration will still more than likely mess up your game…bugs remain in this area…]. So, don’t get paranoid that we’re taking features that people love away or that we’re going to deliver something that has slide show frame rates – rather be happy that we’re up to the point of getting the code to perform as well as possible with all the new goodies

I’m with Arty on this, but unfortunately The World is sometimes otherwise.
Dee_Jay, thanks for the explanation, and sorry the Devs had to deal with turmoil. However, an ounce of prevention is a pound of cure, so perhaps next time an explanation will save us all some grief. Just a thought…
As far as Boxer’s post, it seems to me the Dev’s are on a good path,as it seems they’re realizing not all of us have Super Computers. Or, are computer programmers, for that matter. One of the many reasons I fly BMS is my system will run it smoothly. DCS, for example, is jerky.
Also, Mark(Boxer) , can you confirm 4.34 will be a new install and not a 4.33 upgrade.I have a personal reason for that. My Setup is wonky and won’t take updates, so I’m stuck at U1
