What's up with those rumors
-
I’d rather not ;), there are much better terran engines out there. My persona fav is Outerra. It’s ability to mix procedurally enchanced terrain (which is jevel on its own) with vector data from imported OpenStreetMap and object placed by hand is amazing.
Sadly that’s not gonna happen. Maybe BMS could borrow few trick from there. -
While OpenStreetMap is good for western area, it’s missing lot’s of data especially for north korea and china.
Cheers, :yo:

Imagine if you could incorporate BMS into MSFS2020… that scenery blows my mind.

Exactly my first thought…

I’m curious about the scenery concerning on destructibility…
One thing that AI can generate 3D objects from 2D images but in case you bomb it what about destroyed or damaged LODs…? -
Amazing…
-
Im sure you appreciate Molni, that this was not high on the list of priorities for the MSFS developers.
That said, if you can train an AI to generate 3D objects from 2D images, you can probably (eventually) train an AI to construct destroyable environments from watching enough videos of Michael Bay films.

Of course I know. But if you cannot autogen this you are still as stuck every other sim today.

As long as I can use real world coordinates and have the scenery load smoothly, I’m pretty much IN on this!

Would be cool if the BMS Devs team up with MS to make something like this happen. It may not currently have all the bells and whistles needed for a combat sim but if they continue to support it, it will one day. The biggest hurdle would be to make a business case to support the effort.
With that said what are the complexities and limitations for the BMS team to create a new sim with everything we love about falcon onto a new game engine?
I can already guess some limitations…- Developer learning curve with working with new engine
- SW licensing with old Falcon code
- Development timeline
- Game engine limitations
What are the pros/cons of this?
What if MS backed you guys to give you the appropriate funding and resources to make this happen?
I know I’m not the only one thinking about this so I’ll be the first to ask the loaded questions.

Please focus on reality, what you suggest has less chances to happen than an aliens attack on earth tomorrow morning
Seriously though, I think if M$ would want to create a combat flight sim, they would have done that already and it would be better than anything out there (As, come-on, no small company can compete with M$). I assume they have reasons why they don’t/won’t do it. Possibly small market is one of them.
-
Lmao… I just want the best of the best. You guys have the best Sim. MS now potentially has the best sim engine and would have the resources to back you guys up.
I went in guns blazing knowing got damn well I was going to get shot down in a heartbeat. It was worth a shot though.

I’m afraid that BMS is doomed to forever create its own destiny. Come on! Getting help from M$ will take all the fun out of it

well since they said they will put jet’s and from past military things where implemented for FSX superbug iirc? I don’t think it will be long to see military airplanes and weapon systems and etc…
If their new platform is here to stay and they finalize on the main platform they could add military stuff or even better with cooperation with 3dparty could assist on doing so… why not take the pie from p3d and DCS and military contracts? -
Actually I-Hawk, they did right around the Falcon 4.0 release timeframe… about $18M in US sales alone ($10M in 1st year!)… https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Combat_Flight_Simulator

breaking form the “sense of speed” topic, Is it possible to implement a 3rd party terrain mesh to bms?
-
This is the $1 billion question, and I’m afraid I already know the answer… too much passages to be done, if not impossible at all, due to respective format differences. I hope to be wrong on that, so let’s await the devs.’ answer…
With best regards.

Do you think there are “mesh problems” ?

It will also depend on the ground textures (i.e. grass, small rocks, ect.) that will be that extra detail. Auto-gen should do great for that stuff.
-
Yes sense of speed is affected by any small detail: Mesh, Textures, autogen. The smaller the details the higher the sense of speed. However, people should know that even RL sense of speed isn’t as fast as they may think. I’d be happy with “real”, I’m not aiming for “too fast” feeling just for the sake of sense
