News from the frontline, 4.37.3 delayed (and explained)
-
@I-Hawk
The ability to use Blender (a free tool) would really be a huge addition for thousands of 3D model designers who can’t afford “3DS MAX” at $235 per month.Several people could then contribute for free to the 3D objects available in BMS. Keep up the great work, because the Falcon community truly appreciates all your efforts.
No stress and have fun too!

@Seifer True. Deadlines for devs are important. I think about deadlines for fans. Regular dev reports are very good fan service, but if you encounter something unexpected what throws back the developement 3 months than you don’t have to apologize. We get everything for free and I’m grateful for that!

Thanks for the detailed update. I think this might be my last update to BMS for me for a while, my old pc is starting to show its age now. System prices seem to be gradually falling now so it won’t be long before I have to make the AMD vs Intel decision to last me for another 5 years hopefully. Thanks for all the hard work.
-
@Funduro what is your setup?
-
@Seifer New here (slowly migrating from DCS) but loving the transparency offered.
Good hunting to you and the rest of the dev team!
-
@Seifer I am running an old i7 combined with an AMD 7950 3 GB card and 32GB of RAM. This system has served me well over the years and still runs the existing BMS smooth as silk. I also play Steelbeasts and I have noticed some major frame drops with the newer updates. I think the terrain updates for BMS might just be a step too far but I will give it a go when it arrives. It’s probably time to invest for the future, I am thinking i9 13900 and rx4090 with 64GB RAM should get me through the next 10 years. I have noticed a price drop of nearly £1000 (UK) within the last 6 months currently at £3250 for that system, not sure if they will drop much more.
-
You will need 6k resolution to stop that cpu from bottlenecking that 4090. If the 4090 doesn’t melt your psu connectors first.
-
@Icarus I might have to get used to the sound of water pumps, which in my opinion should only be in an aquarium. Guess I have to move with the times. Tbh I think a mid range Ryzen coupled with a 6700XT would probably sort most of my problems. Decisions Decisions.
-
@Seifer - thanks for the update and a heartfelt thank you to yourself and all of the team who have generously contributed their time and talents to make this simulation something we all treasure. Hats off to all of you.

Guys, only thing we all BMS players can do is continuously and always say a really BIG THANK YOU!!! for all your hard and marvelous work!
We’ll wait and, as usual, it will be worth it!!!
-
@Seifer Guys,
I have to take a moment to express my sincere thanks and appreciation for the immense amount of work you all do for the community. It is truly humbling.
We shall wait patiently for this and any updates knowing that you will have given your awesome skills and free time for us.
Thank You.

I have a question. If the 4.37.3 will be a huge update can you plan to do a teaser or trailer video for it.
Yes I know it is not for an update but according to the info it won’t be a normal simple update and there will be many changes in it. So I thought it wold be nice if we see it . -
@repvez nothing visually worth doing anything…
-
@MaxWaldorf any updates on U3 progress?
-
@b0bl00i not yet…
-
Quick update of the update.
Currently, we have two blockers (all related to F15):
- ramp start: still missing a few switches, being implemented as fast as possible.
- radar: something wrong, not burning through jammer. This is being looked into.
Once those are finished, we call freeze and begin final testing. There are other desirable things that will probably go into the release as well if finished on time:
- F15 autopilot.
- shadow mapping optimization (important for VR).
ETA? Well, I already missed the first deadline and I am about to miss the second one… but let’s try it again. I really feel like September is going to see .3

@Seifer
Thanks for your (team) work and update. No worries about deadlines, ship it once you guys feel it’s really ready. -
@Seifer the shadow mapping optimization is worth the wait for me
-
@MaxWaldorf thanks to the effort of the whole team, and in regards to what @Seifer said, i think you have a lot of content for the community to be excited for, haha
-
@Seifer amazing, really looking forward to the F-15
