@TED indeed and for hell of a lot cheaper.

@Ollie22 I think after 4.38 bms will win out in the looks too.
I’d be surprised if we can actually “win out” over DCS in terms of looks, we have a long way to go there with lighting, clouds and other things, but what we will have is “good enough” graphics paired with all the other things that BMS does so incredibly well!! Doubt DCS will ever have AI, ATC or a campaign like we have.
I mean heck, the theaters we have in BMS absolutely dwarf even the biggest maps in DCS, so expecting the same or better quality there was always gonna be a stretch, and I’m more than happy to compromise on a bit of eyecandy for that!
-
@Mike-0 and we dont have to pay 40 quid for them
-
As far as terrain. I will be happy with any upgrade BMS can provide in terrain to close the gap even if it is still a bit less than DCS, which is at times in some maps not so great either. Right now, DCS terrain is of course better than BMS, but no where near as good as MSFS 2020. If terrain is the metric you use to rate a sim then fly MSFS not DCS.
-
@Mike-0 Ummm, checkout this thread…
Don’t get me wrong, it’s not showing the level of 3d object details that the villages and cities have in DCS, but that 4.38 terrain seems on par and those villages and cities come at a performance hit. There are sometimes I prefer BMS clouds, especially in VR.

“Our community” means “We non-paying users”.
Obviously, “You” developers are not allowed to sleep/feed/have fun/copulate until version 4.38 is released… -
@Topo-0 @MaxWaldorf …where can we slip pizza, peanut M&Ms, Oreos, etc., under the door?

Nope, only coffee is allowed (and some not-so-legal pills)
Seriously, I also want to thank everyone for this amazing work.
As for me, I personally prefer photorealistic textures at a lower resolution, also due to the average flight altitude. -

I’m really struck recently by all the current problems and drama at dcs
Nothing new with DCS. I will say this has been going on for more than a decade now and some will even say issues with DCS code can be traced back to LOMAC days. Sometimes it will bubble up to the surface, like it has done now, sometimes a new map or module will distract people and it will be forgotten for a few months or a year, then the flaws will show itself again.

BMS Has DCS beat in terms of value for money
About £7 for the Fighter Collection in GoG. If that’s not impossible-to-beat value for money, I don’t know what is!!

I have it on good authority that the reason why we still don’t have 4.38 right now is because although you are not sleeping, you are spending time away from 4.38 development to make posts like these!! Back to work!!

DCS has eye candy. If that is what is important, then by all means fly DCS.
DCS also has other aircraft like the Tomcat or the Apache. If you want to fly that, then by all means fly DCS.As to DCS surpassing BMS in areas BMS has going for it… well, let’s just say the Sniper BMPs in DCS has been an issue for a very, VERY long time. If they can’t fix something as basic as that (and remember, their best polished modules are the A-10C and the Shark!!), how confident are you at them doing other things?

Campaigns are scripted and ruined by the AI, In BMS one can feel they are part of a dynamic environment and it’s not you against the world.

While this is true, a sterile environment can be quite good for learning. Imagine DCS as a “training sortie” where there are limited air assets with constrained rules of engagement and you can fly that sortie again and again to practice and refine your skills. Got shot down? Review your ACMI (TacView) and learn from it then fly the mission again and try something else and see how that works. The scripted nature lends itself well to that.
BMS is when your instructors have now released you onto the wild blue yonder, onto an active combat theatre, and for some unknown reason, have given your reigns to your very own F-16 squadron!
-
Agree. Been with Falcon since the wall of migs and ctds. What a great community.
Very difficult to say all the thanks to all who stayed the course in the journey.
So I’ll just say Thank You!

Threads comparing dcs and BMS are always fun, on both sides of the fan fence. I always feel that the wrong comparisons are made though.
Yes graphics are different.
These days there isn’t a lot to choose between the two viper simulations unless you’re someone like mavjp who really knows the numbers, and the feature sets are both reasonably complete.
The thing that sets the two apart is the game/war side of things. DCS can not handle large scale modern warfare. It can’t do lots of coordinated, well planned packages in the air working together to take out several different targets. It can’t do it with humans let alone with AI. BMS can with both.
Where DCS shines is in CAS and helicopter stuff, small engagements or sandboxes. The kind of thing where, because you’re down low, the graphics make a big difference. It’s best at the free for all, the unstructured/unplanned gameplay.
For me, I enjoy both and rotate between them. I love flying campaigns in BMS esp with other people on the rare occasion I can, and I love dodging ground fire in the a10 or helicopters in DCS.

Let’s be clear…
DCS vs BMS is useless…Yes we belong to the same ecosystem but our aims are very very different.

You mean ED aims for money, BMS for everything else

I never understood the insane quality LOD0 external models in a flight sim. When you see things more than a mile in 99% of the time

A new ultra fast pc is about to be ordered.
The one and only reason is 4.38…
My mind believes this is a valid justification…
-
@RalphROV no point to do so now for 4.38.
wait for it. since things will change and get optimized till then, wait for it for a fresh hw suggestion and probably prices…
