Not looking forward to the VR update

I believe there is actually slighty greater amount of central detail with the Reverb G2 vs the Pimax 8k X
100% this plus I get better perf (less stuttering) with the G2 in DCS.
-
@Snake122 Wow - those pics! Cool setup for sure!
Gotta say tho I never seen anyone that flies the lead, wingman, and element at the same time j/k - I love all the sticks and throttles, you should do reviews - seems like you’ve tried it all to find what works best! Cheers

You will have UI in VRHMD. Like same as what DCS UI is in VR… just a 2D UI floating in a VR world.
That’s great to know! Would have been my first question - whether we had to setup things on a screen and THEN put on the VR… being able to do it all in BMS (rather than a virtual desktop or taking off the VR) is awesome!
I’m looking forward to trying BMS in native VR, but still on Oculus Rift CV1 (the original) and I’m sure I’d not have the resolution to VID any bandit well enough if I had to, and would have to rely way too much on instruments and literally blind luck… can’t wait to upgrade one day - until then I just keep saving up my acorns.

@Atlas Please check it out before judging. Maybe you like it more than you think at this point.

Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s a big step forward, but with my setup it’s not as attractive as it would be to me as someone that’s already VR only or flying with a single monitor. I absolutely will try it out, but until pass-through with proper hand tracking is here i’ll be using my monitors/MFDs/ICP… Moving forward into the future!

VERY MUCH looking forward to it.
The one thing which shall draw me back from a Wisser Besser Forum Pirate , and back into the 'Pit.
Be the first time The Gorn has flown since @Pumpyhead hit puberty.
(Er… months ago…? Bad analogy.)
Those that don’t like it…?
Ahhhh… WAY out on a limb here, but… ah… don’t… use it…?

I look forward to the BMS devs blowing my socks off. Just the skeptical side of me showing, and like I said, maybe based off of my flawed experiences.
I do love flying the Apache in DCS and will only do it in VR as I think the depth perception available makes me able to fly it better compared to flat screen, but still, I can’t fly it for very long before it gets too hot/uncomfortable for me and I also feel a bit sick, but that’s probably a DCS framerate/frametime issue.

Of course. The question is about being impatient. I only answered to that part. But maybe wasn’t meant to me .

Can’t…stop…must…use…VR…
Seriously though, hope to be looking into headsets soon and with much thanks to the Devs

For me, the Desktop-Simpit does not really make fun anymore since I use VR with DCS… Dogfight with TIR is just horrible… and since there is no working padlock anymore it did not make fun at all anymore.
So I am really looking forward to VR, hope it is done well. Things like total restarts after each single 3D entering and leaving would be horrible… But at the end, I hope it ends in perfect MR option in a few years… When Varjo removes its 1.500 anual fee… I am in for an XR3 -
@DanWolo - for real…there is NO way (like zero…) that anyone here could afford a RL Armed Forces Trainer. And frankly, I seriously wouldn’t want to even TRY and maintain one! The guys did offer to me once that they knew of one for sale…and that it would show up on multiple semi-trucks, if I could buy it.
OTOH - because of some of this (having a great friend in one of our Test Pilots), I DID eventually get an opportunity to fly the RL jet for 1.7 hours…and interestingly, 1) the jet was a lot easier to fly than the Trainer, and 2) having spent about 400+ hours in the Trainer before I actually got to fly, the jet didn’t do anything I didn’t expect…other than for RL G forces kicking my butt (my pilot made me do the G warm)…what most impressed me was how well the Trainer did/dose in capturing the sounds of the real thing.
…so it took a bit for what I had actually done to sink in.

@Snake122 Nice set up , Snake. You also gave me an idea with the x-56 / 56. Are you using that for added switches? If so, do you have any issues incorporating that into BMS and how did you set it up? I use the Alternate Launcher and Voice Attack for input. I have a Warthog throttle base I’ve kept for parts
-
@drtbkj yep, basically extra switches and axis assignments. My Comm 1+2 volume are on the base knobs. Base and throttle switches/buttons are assigned and marked with my label maker. I don’t have the other knobs or even throttle assigned. As it sits the throttle moves inboard and outboard, but this is folds down to sit against the side of my seat for the rare occasions I fly helicopters for a more realistic feeling collective.
Also in-between the X-56 and the X-65F throttles, I forgot to mention I have a Saitek AV8R PC version that I “potatoed.” The stick was cut down and the head is glued to the base so that I have all of the stick head buttons (mostly view controls). I took all the three stick axes and two throttle axes potentiometers and made them volume axis assignments and the toggle switches on the base are assigned for functions there as well.
All of this works fine in BMS, but Alternative Launcher is a god send! With that many USB devices (part of my excuse for poor cable management ), if one of them dropped with traditional Falcon device sorting, it would blow up my configuration. Thanks for that amazing software @chihirobelmo

I disagree. I’ve been using an HMD (reverb g2) with head tracking for some time now and there’s no drop in fidelity that wouldn’t be overcome by the ability to move your head freely. I would go into more detail but I have a feeling we all have our preferences and reasons. I would recommend trying this if you have a HMD. I play using Virtual Desktop (not free) from Steam using the virtual fixed horizon curved 2d display that wraps around my entire FOV and OpenTrack for head tracking. Input is set to Valve SteamVR and Output is set to freetrack 2.0 Enhanced. Don’t forget to set your curves. It was at this point I realized I want a real 1-1 3d cockpit. It’s time.

@thefalcone
Do you have a pure SteamVR headset?
Because I tried to do that with a G2 last week and had issues with open track capturing at lower than 90hz which generates double vision artifacts even if the sim is running at 90+ fps. -

But soon it all shouldn’t matter with native BMS support.

Also begs the question, will it be OpenXR/OpenComposite compatible or just WMR/SteamVR for the G2?

Open XR runs well with the G2.
At least in FS & DCS , with a betterPerformance than SteamVR -
@Viper Yes I could not agree more. Now hopefully Pimax Crystal can use the Open XR too.
-
@Viper I agree, use it on IL-2 and DCS, but the sim has to have the api specifically integrated if what I have read is true. For example, Cliffs of Dover has a VR beta but only works with SteamVR…
